in bc canada, picked up my Triak in Tacoma on top of my carravan and headed to Britsh Columbia. Found the Aumas did not provide adequate floatation when the wind piped up, also my rudder braket bent easily, replaced it with a diy hd bracket, shortly there after the rudder wire pulled out of it's thimble, fun no steering - luck I was near my landing site did a 45 min sail across our harbour -10 knot breeze - nothing to do, sit back, relax, boring on the return trip the wind piped up - (15 - 25 k ) as I arrived at our harbour break water wall the wind perhaps approched 30 k great sailing tride to surf but the waves were too close get going and coming off a waver the nose would bury itself_ wonder if was going to come back up - then the sails would get back winded ( ? } and lose way - again no fun wanted to do some surfing no luck. the boat was comfortabl, stable and fun to work with, good hull, good rigging . I'd give it 6 - 8.
Jason, great to hear from you thank you for the comment. We're about to post several how-to videos. Will let you know when they are up. "How to right a TRIAK" is a great idea. Cheers!
Good job, Triaksports in trimming the videos to show the highlights. Gotta say I have enjoyed my triak "Blue Shift" for the past three years--I think it shows!
I case anyone is wondering, the TRIAK is much more comfortable than the Hobie AI, and much drier. Tons of storage capacity in case you are camping. The hobie also doesn't have a spinnaker, and the TRIAK can be paddled while sailing, which jumps your speed up by about 1.5 knots. Also, you can paddle the TRIAK for hours while I would challenge anyone to try and paddle the hobie for more than 5 minutes. The footpeddle steering on the TRIAK is just very very intuitive. When the wind is kicking and the waves are big, I always choose the TRIAK. Great boat.
those big solid aka's look like they will catch waves? i cant imagine how a big flat solid surface isnt going to get lifted when the ama pierces a wave at speed. - in some decent wind this will go like stink, so lets see it operate in some serious 12+ knts of wind please.
Yeah i gotta agree with the other dude saying the clips look a bit lack lustre as in slooow. When you pulled the sail on i thought here we go ,i was waiting for it to come alive, but no it was pedestrian. I thought it will get better, they're just showing that they are easy to sail etc. Get out there in a good blow. It's probably the nicest tri yak i've seen though
I just got one of these and its amazing how versatile and stable it is in all weather conditions, the first day I took it out was also the first day of Sandy and it was such a rush and ease to use, really wish I had a cam with me. If just Kayaking its smoother and faster than my regular kayaks too. The paddle doesnt come close to hitting the outrigger.
