Awesome, I love it! I realize that it has nothing to do with the video itself but can anyone tell me what that is at the beginning of the video out in the grass on the same side of the road as the cameraman? I thought originally it was something like a plastic bag being tossed around by the wind but after watching it a couple times it actually appears to be an animal or a couple of animals. I'm sorry to annoy you guys with this trivial BS but it has gotten to the point that I "have to know" LOL
@Scott Stokes Awesome video sir. I actually live pretty close to the Durham Town plantation. Is this event something the general public could come to? Maybe even get to ride along in one of these rigs?
OutdoorFiend yes, the public is invited and welcome to come out to see the trucks, ask questions and even ride along. Rides have to be arranged with individual drivers, but just walking around and asking usually works. Visitors must have a Durhamtown arm band ($5 or $10) and they must behave or they will be used as wheel chocks.
I bet those trucks would do better and not get stuck all of the time if you put some weight into the back of them to give the rear wheels extra traction.
Trampled Under Feet they don't actually get stuck very often, but getting stuck makes good video so that's a lot of what you see. It's actually pretty amazing the amount of mud that they handle without much difficulty. 1500 to 2000 pounds in the back does make a big difference in traction. I carry about 1500 pounds in mine most of the time, for that reason. A deuce with a little extra weight and tire chains is nearly unstoppable.
+Steven King Its a type of tower for cell antennas. A monopole is a like a really big utility pole, just a big steel pole. They're usually 100-200 feet tall. This one is called a stealth pole. The actual pole is covered in a plastic shroud. All of the antennas are inside the shroud. For some reason some people think that looks better than having all of the antennas mounted on the outside. All towers move a little with the wind, but this one was having a serious problem. The interior steel pole was too small relative to the diameter of the shroud. It was suffering the effects of vortex shedding and oscillating badly. The whole top section had to be replaced with stronger parts, and we installed an oscillation damper. That's basically a 500 pound weight hanging on a chain down the inside of the pole. Fixed it.
+Scott Stokes excellent sir. Thanks for the reply! It's crazy to see that thing move like that!!! Love your "Betty"! I want one bad. I can get one local here, but I'm worried about the maintenance costs. I have a couple acres and a small roll off business. I know how expensive trucks can be, especially mil-spec.
she would have made it through that hole, but then again that was clay... anyhow, if you're on Facebook and not a member check out Tundra Crew. I'm a member. and where was that spot at? Tennessee by chance?
These events have been the best! I have spent my vacation times here now for 6 years! The GA Rally with the Steel Soldiers is an awesome event and a must see if you have never been! Its every year in October!
So all of the trucks playing in the mud and hill climbing were 2-1/2 trucks, not 5-tons. The M35A3 is probably the one that looks like a 5/ton to you. None of the ones in the video have diff lockers. They all have a driven front axle. Either a sprague type or air shift transfer case. Sometimes we leave the front axle disengaged just to spin the tires and play a little.
I run diesel fuel only. The alternatives (WMO, WVO, other oils) cause too much maintenance for me. The truck will run on almost anything, but the filter and tank maintenance is too much, not to mention the collection, processing and storing of alternative fuel.
Actually, thats not funny. Thats not proper dog behavior. You may want to get that checked out. There is a viral video of another dog doing a similar action, vets are saying it may be a seizure disorder, I dont know much about that one as I just read it. One I have witnessed personally was a behavior disorder due to someone poorly diciplining their dog. (Im sure thats not the case here). Im just saying, thats something that should be looked at for the good of the dog. :)
Nah. Most likely it’s simple attention seeking behaviour. If the dog did something like this for some random reason once, and saw their owner laughing and making a big deal out of it, it can become pathological attention seeking behavior
