I produce how-to DIY home improvement videos to help people of all skill levels. I've been a professional in the construction industry for decades and share my knowledge with you to empower DIYers.
I live in Texas where basements are not common at all, so this building process will be interesting to see as it progresses and it’s being done properly. I’m exited for you as well!
Watching that track hoe work must have been something special. The operator obviously knew how to do this slowly and correctly! Watching you walk around in that hole shows proof of the work done. It's gonna be big! Will the new building be for year round use? I don't know any of the building codes for Canada, so hopefully as the build goes on you can explain what building codes are needed and why. Best of luck with this project, I hope it comes out GREAT!
It's really interesting to watch a project like this from absolute start to finish. Almost enough slope there to build a walkout facing the lake. Hopefully that clay isn't like in Regina or you may want to consider piles and/or hauling in sand to backfill around the foundation.
It's not the same gumbo as Regina but it is a mixture of some clay. Walk out was considered but it was not really enough slope and would have been a lot of extra cost to go walk out.
It's impressive to me that at those depths, no moisture seems to be present despite your proximity to the lake. And here in the US It's required that removed top soil be piled separately from the rest of the dig to be reused on site. Your excavator really did a nice job.
I know what you mean by watching an experienced professional work. I saw a track hoe operator grading a crane pad on a industrial site once. There was a couple of laborers with shovels and rakes that just watched him the entire time , there was absolutely nothing that they needed to help with!
I can’t keep turning after the knob on pilot. Is it faulty if I can’t turn it to off? Can I remove the lines without turning it off but turn off the gas
@@HouseImprovements does the black knob need to turn to off because I can only have it on "On" or Pilot. can't make it turn further left for some reasons.
It didn’t work for me. I bought it too do some mortar patching on brick and it didn’t work at all. I guess the product was too thick for it to work. I may try it for some kitchen grout repair, which is not that thick of a product so if it doesn’t work for that, it’s going in the trash.
This was so helpful. My husband just passed away and he did all this for us. Now I'm pretty confident that I can do this myself. I'm going to go get the spray. Thank you so much for this very informative video. Have a great day!
Thank you for a great video. What type of adhesive did you use to attach foam board to concrete wall? Also, how would your process differ if installing on the outside of the existing foundation wall? (Inside is finished.)
Very appreciated, I've never had experience with vinyl siding, there is no sheathing under a 8x8 section in mine, no house wrap due to rot and damage. I needed to get in there to fix and I'm trying to keep as much of the siding as possible..
Actually with Stucco , you would either remove all stucco so you can mount rim to the wall or use a second beam and support the deck un attached to the house. If removing the stucco then you could slide splashing up under the stucco.
@@HouseImprovements Do I just ask for this? I used a 6” wide board for the front flashing. Just like you showed. I used osb decking, attach and then place underlayment over it? Then place the metal sheets hopefully this weekend.
@@HouseImprovements definitely not. You taught me a lot despite never really building anything. The people who did my windows trim were tailgate warranty artists!
