Actually, @jeffisyourhero, it looks like Bautista is creating hand body separation as you can see the bat coming back down to its original position behind his neck when his foot strikes.that's when he starts the swing. otherwise, you'd have to say that for Cano too.
For all the people commenting about all of these hitters jumping off their back foot, they are because theyre so strong that when they swing their hips through the back foot pops up for a little bit. No one, even these guys, will ever tell you that staying back isnt how you generate power from your legs.
He only hit 4 home runs, and didn't make it to second round, so no slow motion for him this year... I was wondering if his bat was tampered with - see the way it broke in the handle at 7:30. Seems strange...
There was once a version on youtube of this to some really motivating style music ! This is nice in that it kind of demonstrates the "art" of a beautiful swing but doesn't really get you pumped up.

Great video. Does anyone else notice that all of these guys are "dropping the barrel" earlier than many young players are being taught today? None of these guys have a bat that's coming down on the ball at contact. And it's not just in the home run derby. Watch slow-mo replays of these guys in games and it's the same thing.
To hit monster home runs you will have to drop your barrel. The reason they teach kids not to is because they don't have the power required to hit a home run and end up popping out. I've played baseball most of my life and that's my personal opinion.
It's all in their wrist. It creates torque. They also have perfect technique. When little kids try to do it, they drop their hands and shoulders, and they don't have proper mechanics.
Don't think his "swing" starts before his front foot lands. His bat is moving, but many hitters do that. But shoulder rotation hasn't started yet, nor are his hands coming forward.
actually that is completely incorrect, he loads up for the pitch a little long here because of the slower pitch and he is trying to hit it over the wall, if you look at his swing in a really game he doesn't do that so the was a great compilation and a fantastic swing.
Again, Watch Prince fielder and other's back foot leave the ground. Most people tell you to sit back on the back foot, when really, power comes from gaining ground and turning to where your back foot must come up. if you agree or want to learn more check out Baseball Rebellion.
