I have the issue where I’m transported to the airship interior map and it is nothing but black. Really don’t understand what is going wrong, went through the video like 3 times. Older methods don’t get nearly as close though.
I have been working on a story and as I was discussing it with my SO, he said, "this should be a game". I've always wanted to try this and I am completely new to RPG Maker, so thanks for creating this playlist!
I might have just missed it in the video, but what do I do with the times of day to make the screen tint? I've compared everything I think, and I have the time counter working. I just can't get the screen to tint
Im very new to this. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong but I’m trying to import literally the same file (outside B, the png file) into the project the same way but nothing happens. I’m not even sure how to describe what’s going on because I don’t see anything wrong, other than it just doesn’t come up on the project after I import Edit: just to add your tutorials have literally been my #1 source for learning rpg mz. They’ve been great, I’ve never had an issue until now
Coming late to the party but this has me wondering something. How do you show off your game with something else than the graphics ? I'm an amateur "artist" trying to touch everything. I've been making my own music for my game, I'm paying ACTORS to have voicelines over important dialogues, I even modified some character sprites (some details) to have them more accurate with their portraits. YET for the life of me I'm unable to parallax map, I'm unable to draw anything. So the first thing that comes to people eyes are the default assets. Even though I really put efforts into everything else, the default asset will always catch the spectator's eyes FIRST.
If music is your skill then I would say lean heavily into that. When making your own graphics, just remember they don't need to be high quality. Just look at the one punch man comics. They were originally an MS paint creation. Or look at undertale with very basic art. Try to make your own very basic art and lean heavily into your music.
I'm a beginner in the world of RPG maker and for me the problem with MZ is that there's almost no support on it. For example, I want to make DoT based on the attackers attack but there's no tutorials in MZ and wherever I search I always see Yanfly. I might change to MZ once I'm used to use to Note Tags, but I will train myself in MV for the moment.
Do you have any recommendations for photo editing software other than photoshop that could be useful for rpgmaker? I would like to try this out but I find the subscription relatively expensive.
How do you know how to color the pixels? I know you can use the color mode. But I'm curious about how to color pixels, do you have to add different shades of colors related to what main color you use? how does that work, like which areas should be dark and which areas should be light?
So it usually depends on what I'm trying to do, there is a whole load of colour theory out there and if you type "Colour Theory" into youtube then you'll probably get some great videos. In this video, essentially I wanted to change the colour of something so I would pick a colour, then go up and down in the brightness of that colour to change highlights or shadows, rarely would I shift in saturation if I'm just doing a colour change.
I always wanted to make a RPG maker horror but i dont have a PC, But i also i wanna take my time on creating it, i dont wanna spend 1-3 months on a trash game that people will complain about, i wanna make a rich and compelling story with clever layout and puzzle, character will you meet and spend time with and form relationships. The idea i had was based on eldritch cosmic horror with the world ending, inspired by fear and hunger with turn base combat and places to explore
Then would it be better as a graphics novel? That's a serious question, not a jibe! I see a lot of people putting years into making very large, intricate, involved and nuanced RPG maker games that the average Joe gamer will look at once, see basic Gamemaker graphics and click on the next game. Sorry but that is true for a lot of people. I started playing around with an idea I had in RPG maker a couple of years ago and left it to go stale a bit. Now I have some free time again I've decided to finish it. It was basically a side project, just playing around to see what I could do with RPG Maker XP; which I think I got of Steam for 75p or something. Some old videos can be seen on the profile page. I'm not advertising anything just saying if you want to have a look at my presentation style and see what I was trying to aim for. It's a game of two halves, most of the videos are from the first half which is basically a take on an old style point-and-click adventure type games, without the point-and-click. The second half has more graphics novel and puzzle based story elements know I'm not exactly selling it here! I've basically finished all the gameplay stuff now and am mostly fixing the menu and scripting bugs. I'm no artist but I'd say it definitely has a different look for an RPG maker game. I'm not saying that means anyone will be interested in it though!
Why I don't find RPG games appealing because the story is so predictable. You create character, then you became the most important thing in the world as if the game cannot proceed without you. There is no option to begin with. The adventure aspect is limited to exploring every room, dungeons, and caves. The puzzles are repititive and boring.
This is a great tutorial. I had a bit of an issue at first because I didn't set the Common Events to run Parallel. So, if anyone is having an issue getting this to work, be sure to check that with your Common Events.
If you want to slow the movement down. I recommend adding around five frames of wait time. After left and right. I find this lets the movement play and have it a bit more visable. Without it feeling slow. Thank you LvL Up Design for the vid.
Hi, do you know how to create passive skills for rpg maker mz with no plug-ins? Passive skills like a state that is always active if the player is lvl 4 and gives 1 extra attack per turn.
Don't forget your fantasy world is likely not to be high tech or overly advanced. It will be like Middle Earth or like our Earth one or two thousand years ago. It will have forests where there land had not been cleared. There are,or were, forest regions like this in modern times, in countries such as Hungary. What I'm saying is I understand don't put something there for the fun of it. I am also saying don't forget what I've said. Your characters may have to travel through forests to reach a destination. On the journey they are likely to encounter forest denizens. Some of these denizens may not be friendly. In the end, why can't you wander through the forest, and enjoy the scenery? All the time fending off Orcs or some snotty mage? Half the fun of RPGs.
Bonus tip: some players don't like voice acting so use a switch if else to let people enable or disable it (Via key item or something) This would also open up room for multi-language support if you did it as a variable instead.
I actually agree with a lot of what you said here.. although I'm a amateur game dev in using RPG Maker's VX Ace, MV and was looking to get this...UNTIL!!! I saw the price of an unfinished clunky game engine! Only reason I would consider buying it now is the fact it's 3D world view, although everything in squares "sucks!" IMO, but If they lower their price to say, "$25USD" yeah. I might still be able to even be tempted to buy it at that price, in hopes of remaking my current project in Bakin from RPG Maker MV, "My beginning game demo in MV" can be seen on You Tube under the Title name, "Blood Parasite" as my idea story ARPG style of before "PE" or Parasite Eve! from the console PS1 game. If, when, and how I finish this one game...My next mission will be re creating the classic game, "Legend of Dragoon!" I've been developing games solo for the past 8 years now. So far I've made 5 small pretty fun, cool games sold on Itch.io
I'm glad you found this video. I was worried when I saw your earlier comment on my other video. I think I'll leave these up for maybe another week then remove my catalog. I don't want people to buy the engine based on my tutorials.
I'm definitely getting this engine to use over the RPG Maker MV instead. I think I'm just dumb enough to learn its simplicity. Watching your tutorials, otherwise...no!!
@@toddgilmore118 if you haven't watched it yet make sure you watch my last video in the Bakin series where I talk about the engines flaws. Just so you're making an informed purchase.
