I was stationed at Mildenhall from 1995 to 1999. I bought a house on ST Helena you could see the runway from my backyard, and the Jets would fly on their approach behind my house. I was also stationed at RAF Alconbury twice back in the 70's and 80's and and RAF Bentwaters from 88-93 when the base closed.
I’m English and live in Lakenheath, so if you have any local questions, feel free to @ me. I can’t help from a US military side, but can help with local other bits.
Hola, recently found your video/channel and I’m freaking out about our pcs to Mildenhal 😩😩 if you don’t mind what’s the name of the school your daughter goes to? I’m thinking of putting my 8yr old off base school!
Just a couple of thoughts as a local. Can you not get a fixed line installed? I have an account with British Telecom that provides a fixed phone and broadband service, plus a discount on a mobile/cellphone for a reasonable fee. I'm getting 70Mps, you're out in the country so you will get less than that but it should be an improvement on what you are currently getting. Plus fibre optic is rapidly replacing the old copper wires throughout the country, so everywhere other than the most remote parts will see an improvement in speed and reliability. Secondly I have standing orders with my bank to pay all my regular bills by automatically debiting my bank account each month. I haven't had to worry about personally paying bills for many years!
Hey girl!! So I’ve definitely just binge watched a ton of your videos because we are PCSing the UK early next year! I was wondering if you’ve thought of doing a video on starting to vlog. I’d like to document our travels while we’re out there too. I think it’s be nice for family and friends back home to watch and for us later on too. I downloaded Splice on my phone to try to get used to editing videos before I commit to buying a camera and microphone. So yea, I was just wondering seeing if you maybe could do a video on what you did to start vlogging and any tips that you have?
Do u know what the age cut off for off base schools is generally? My oldest birthday is 2nd week of September she’ll be 4 this year and it’s been an issue trying to figure out by states because some say next year because the cut off is after her birthday and some is September or October and she wouldn’t go for 2 years and now we just found out we’re going to UK
I want to say they are the same as the US with the 1st of September. But I could be wrong. But U.K. has free nursery school where you get 15 hours for free each week. But bees is one that I love in Beck row.
Dover Castle has got the lot: Roman Lighthouse, Saxon Church, Norman Castle,+Napoleonic ,First World War,and Second World War defensive works,an underground hospital and communication centre. The history of England in one package.
Thank you for this! My husbands in tech school right now in Texas, we’re from Florida and he just got his first assignment in lakenheath UK 🇬🇧 ! We have a 2 year old and we’re SO EXCITED. We’re gonna be living on base and we wanna get a 3 bedroom because we’re going to be trying for a new addition to the family💕 the houses all look beautiful and SO much room. Sending love to your family💕
This is an option for me and my husband as well but we’re still waiting ! He’s doing low observable aircraft maintenance! Is that what your husband is doing as well?!
PoisonNarwhal I honestly can’t remember. But we are getting ready to move back and I plan to try and take some U.K. detergent back with us! It’s so much stronger and the smell lasts!
@@GonzalezFamilyAdventures i ended up searching it up on the TSA website!! Its allowed. Mine is powder so I just have to be prepared for if they would like to test it for narcotics. Which obviously shouldn't be an issue 🤣
First. Thanks to you and your husband for his service. Second, just out of curiosity, is it hard to get used to driving on the left side of the street? It feels like it would be hard.
Barry, let's just say some people shouldn't be driving no matter what side you drive on. It's actually not that bad. I was rearended twice while there and totaled out both cars. Although insurance is required as well as a thing called MOTs, I didn't receive a penny from either accident. I did go to a couple of solicitors and was told I was SOL. Not because of parties not having insurance but things with the laws are different there in terms of filing a claim.
Renting a car to drive to base from the airport? Sounds like your sponsor was a slouch. ....a lot of these “problems” are not problems, they’re a part of being stationed overseas
@@fredpearson5204 Just saying hello Fred. We lived in Birdview Square during the same time as you. Our housing does not compare with this! Wishing you well.
Can i ask. Im british born. From west london. When my husband and i drove passed there to go to well next to sea. He 1st told me about lakenheath i was so intrigued. He e explained that everything behind the fence we drove by in lakenheath was American. Restaurants, cars, schools, your own church. I was amazed. Is it true? My mind drifts away and goes into "Happy Days, The Fonz mode" or i imagine nice frothy milkshakes, big burgers and fries or bars that have drinks that get slided to you that you catch and drink. I wanna be part of that.!! More importantly why have i no America friends ( male or female)? and where do i find some( please dont say social media im.so crap at that.)
Hey I know this video is a little old but I was wondering if you could do a video on more tips you learned overseas on how to travel as much as possible and how to spend wisely while traveling. My family is about to move to Lakenheath so that would be very helpful because we want to travel and enjoy our time as easily and budget-friendly as possible.
