This channel aims to review toilets and urinals from any era, and see how they hold up. From the Original American Standard Cadet to the Modern Kohler Highline Class 5. From old low tank toilets to the Modern Vortex toilet. I'll even review urinals and commercial toilets from time to time.
Most of these reviews will be based on toilets found in the US, but who knows? I may branch out eventually.
Reviews will likely be posted once a week, depending on my schedule.
FYI: I am not a plumber, but I know much more than you might think.
I used to like these toilets until I saw one for the first time in person. It was a second gen Gilpin just like this one, from around 2010, and unfortunately it had a very leaky Flushmate 504 in it. I had to use it with a #2. It was the most average one ever, and when I flushed it, it hard clogged... Just from a completely normal #2!!! Not even a larger one! And it clogged so hard that even a plunger couldn't solve it. Now I hate the ProFlo Gilpin, and I know why people hate on them .
These toilets are complete crap! I’ve encountered two of them and both required multiple flushes to clear the bowl, which completely defeats the purpose of having a 1 gallon per flesh toilet to save water. One eye encountered, took five flashes to clear the ball of the contents that was in the bowl. An insufficient amount of water to clear the bowl combined with a weak crappy flush equals a useless toilet.
@TheVintageNoob Mostly has to do with water line carry. If there is not a lot of water to push waste down the system, a lot of waste can get stuck in the lines and clog up the pipes, which can cause things like backups.
I’ve encountered these a lot, and these seem to be the best performing pressure assist toilets out there. I’m not a huge Kohler fan, but this seems like the only modern tank toilet that cold has gotten right so far. As for the 1 gallon version, it probably performs way better than the Pro Flo Gilpin, which is the most pathetic pressure toilet I’ve ever encountered. It takes about five flushes to clear the bowl of a Pro Flo Gilpin, what’s totally negates the idea of conserving water by using 1 gallon per flush.
Too many horrible memories of the one at my childhood dentist to even remotely like these… You planning on reviewing any of the wall hung 3.5’s (Afwall, Kingston Waterguard, Stratton, Auburn, etc.)? I’d love to see those :)
LIXIL of Japan, a TOTO competitor, now owns American Standard, Crane, Eljer, Armitage Shanks, and Trane. The last company is an HVAC company based in Texas. The rest are plumbing fixtures companies.
5:32 Yeah, I can see that my mom’s place in Menominee Falls has one of these toilets that replaced a 2005 American Standard Compact toilet. This one might either be common or uncommon to find unlike the newer Champion 4.
I would love to see you do a review of the Current Project Source Pro Flush ( Ellai) toilet, the horrible Glacier Bay (Garbage Bay) HET from 2013-Current, The “Standard “ Modernus, The “Standard “ Compton, & the 1962 - 1981 American Standard Cadet.
Well I have alot of stories to share about my experiences of seeing these toilets.. This is going to be a long comment !! I remember I used to see alot of these toilets when I was little and I hated seeing these ! I know these were pretty common in my area in the past and these were common in Rite Aid and I've seen one of these at my former Doctors office that I used to go to when I was a kid and that had a black toilet seat . It's stupid that they would be this in a Doctors office that kids would go to , plus the former Dentist that I went to when I was a kid has this toilet and it's stupid to see that there . I used to see these in TIm Hortons restaurants and Anderson's restaurants ... Plus a day care center in Depew NY has these toilets in the toddler room and that's really dumb that they would put these in a Toddler room at a Day care center . Yeah these are too loud and that can scare kids .. But , I do remember when I first saw these I didn't think they were that loud or maybe the loudness didn't scare me too badly or maybe I was hearing the volume of toilets differently that time . Yeah sometimes there were times where I thought certain toilets I saw were loud and some other times I thought they weren't that loud . Yeah my thoughts have changed quite a few times in the past . But when I got older , then I started getting annoyed with the loudness on these . But yeah , the loudness does annoy me on these toilets alot these days and I'm glad these are going away !!! But yeah , I did see one of these at Anderson's restaurant in Depew NY and it's really loud and there's an exelerator hand dryer in the bathroom . The hand dryer that I saw is just as bad as this toilet . But I'd rather hear the loudness of a hand dryer instead of hearing these toilets flush ... But I know there used to be a Rite Aid in Lockport that used to have this toilet with that Centeco 500 toilet seat and it permanently closed back in May and I'm glad the Pressure lite is going away ... Plus I do remember an Office building that my Dad used to work at years ago had one of these toilets with a Beneke 523 toilet seat and unfortunantly it killed either a Gothic logo AMerican Standard Cadet round bowl or a 1970s American Standard Cadet round bowl toilet . I'm not sure which Cadet because I remember when I was first into toilets I didn't know brands or models of them but I only knew alot of them had different flushes and I knew toilet seats were different !! Plus I remember I saw a NOS Kohler Highline pressure lite from 1997 get installed at a Chinese restaurant in 2007 to replaced a Highline ingenium . That was dumb that they would install that in 2007 . It should've gone to the garbage after it came out of some building that it must've been in !! Yep , those are alot of my stories about these toilets and if I can think of some of my other experiences of me seeing these toilets I'll let you know .
I’m surprised that the Kohler still make this 1st gens like Barringtons even today but honestly, we’re more thankful that these are not as common as 2nd gens though.
I remember back in the day like 18 years ago these were pretty common in my area . But I think these are kind common in the Rite Aid stores where Eckerd Pharmacy used to be .
Kohler toilets today are junk and way overpriced. My workplace has 2013 highline or wellworth toilets and they’re complete garbage. They clog way too easily.
Trenton Represent!!! They built those right outside Trenton, NJ by the Hamilton Train station. I grew up near there and I've seen the original factory which still stands with Standard logos but sadly has been converted into a business park since American Standard consolidated their operations over to the Piscataway plants. If you ever find it, you can still see the old chimney where the kilns were that has Maddock spelled out in the bricks.
What about the kohler stratton waterguard k-4450-c which is an expensive wall mounted elongated commercial flushometer commode that came in at 1 time 7 different colors like not only white, but black, biscuit, almond, ice gray or grey, sandbar & mexican sand? Unfortunately the other 5 colors have been discontinued. Yet, I'd like to view a video of an evaluation about this 1 which is a 3.5 gpf (13.2 lpf) toilet that usually costs over a grand. Also, I would have liked to have viewed a toilet paper roll test on this commode just to view how crappy it performs.
I mean I still like any Kohler toilet but the reason why it gets so much hate is the aqua piston that the flush is too short and cause clogs. I had a 2021 Square trapway Kohler class 5 toilet that I installed since November of 2022 and I still had not clogged even once. Pretty mixed
