Welcome to Fiat X1/9 Restoration. Our channel will be mainly ran by My father, a family friend and myself! We have been given the treasure trove of Fiat X1/9's and plan on Stripping the ones not worth fixing and start to restore the rest. We will have extra parts that we are willing to set up trades and or selling of some parts so we do our part to help keep our passion alive for the future X1/9 Enthusiast! So Buckle up and hit that like and subscribe button and get ready to save some history!
Been hitting the 50's, been fighting some more brake issues with the black beast. So we are going to get that fixed soon plus the old man has a starter that needs to be fixed on the blue one so stay tuned for that.
My first car was a Bertone x1/9 1984. Silver. I loved it but had a lot of problems with the clutch and never could find anyone who was good at fixing it. No RU-vid back then.
Currently we still need to get an inventory of what we need to put together the ones we have and what we can sell. Stay tuned. I will be making a website for the projects and inventory.
Wow, you guys are really nice for sharing this information... Videos like this makes me love America all the much more... I tried to work for a shop back in Brazil... All the mechanics I asked for an opportunity and all they asked me back was "hey, don't you have a uncle who owns a shop or something?" And here you guys are sharing all this information on how to work on these... They are a pain in the ass to work. So thank you guys very much for sharing this information
We are all about keeping the x19s alive!! We want to be able to help and join in with the community of people who live theses cars. If we don't pass on knowledge it could be lost over time. I've been watching the Facebook groups and find lots of questions about these cars. We will be back full swing again here soon we had a busy summer that kept us away for a lot but we are going to be doing a drive train swap from a wrecked x19 to a 1988 here soon!!
Had three of these back in the day. A 75, a 74 and a 79. They really do handle like a go-cart. Transitioned to a front engine sports coupe after the 79, and had to get used the understeer. Still miss that 79. It was moderately upgraded with stiffer shocks, roll bars, a moderate cam and a bigger carb. While not the fastest from a standing stop, it really could haul from a roll. With dual carbs and a more aggressive cam, it would have been a blast. That engine was bullet proof. Bayless was the go-to supplier! Still have that catalog. Ah the good old days!
Hi I just recently was given an X19 from my Aunt. It is rough condition but nothing too bad. The only issue is I don't have any idea how to work on it. I was wondering if there was a service manual or a website that had one so I can figure out where certain vacuum hoses go. Where certain lines are so I can place them and such. I really love the content and cant wait to get my x19 on the road!
So there is PDFs you can download xwebforums.com/wiki/index.php/WorkshopManuals Or midwest Bayless has quite the library you can buy for them also. Would be the best place to start I'd say.
I injured myself working on an X19 pedal box in situ with the car on its wheels, this video brought back memories. I have basically, no money, plus I'm obsessed with these cars. I only have a 1-tonne engine hoist, a beam from 40x60mm box, and a pair of 6' stands. I take off the bumpers, bolt the irons to the beam, pick the car up by the front or the back and stand it. When the back's stood up it's pretty easy to work in the footwells and under the dash from a kneeling position. You could think of having a simple rotisserie knocked up, bolt the irons to that, it's the best way to restore these.
The old man and I plan on a system to do that with two that we can completely strip down a couple more here soon! The channel has been hit and miss on footage and work because it's been hitting 112 up here most days and we are outdoors working on them lol
@@X19Restoration ouch that sounds too hot! Regarding my stands and the hoist and lifting beam, I have corner braces between the beam and the uprights, and there's a length of threaded studding inside the beam and the stand tops locate inside the beam and are bolted on the studding. It's worked for me, but you still have plenty of areas that are uncomfortable to work on because the car's position is fixed. That's why I mentioned a rotisserie for the disassembly and shell restoration. For rebuilding the car, the tall stands are ideal. Best of luck 👍
I was bitten by the bug a few years ago. Took over my whole life! I've been in my garage for years doing a restomod X. Build thread is at RMS motoring forum / the ultimate X. Hat's off folks!
I’m glad to see there’s a channel about x 1/9s, just bought one for 500 and I got it to run after 15 years, I have one question and do you know where the alternator voltage regular is located, it isn’t charging the battery
If it's a Bosch alternator then it's located on the back of alternator. If not then please comment back and we can take a deeper look into where. What year is your 9?
@@X19Restoration it’s a 79 and I believe it is the original Bosch alternator, I’m going to see if I could maybe clean up the ground for it, might fix it
Love the X1/9, I bought one while I was in the Navy, a 1975, I drove as a daily driver leaving the Navy for ... 10 years!, you name it I fixed it, even after a drive belt broke replacing the Motor from a wreaked 77 car. changed wheel barrions a few times, slave clutch a few times. Was no internet, no club, no one else had them, just me and a Hannes book... I did trade it for another sports car in 87, a New 87 Corvette! I Still miss that Fiat!
Just south of Salem OR with a very rough rusty 79 X but first goal is to just see if I can get it to run. Step one is to get the clutch system working. Put in a new Bayless master. Now trying to get system to actually work. Found your video trying to figure out how to bleed the system. What city are you guys in ?
We are up in north central Washington about dead center in the state. We have found a lot of tips including jacking the car up in the front to help get the air pocket to the top of the cylinder. Just keep working it and it will bleed.
@@X19Restoration Thanks! I messed around with my X yesterday with a hand squeeze vacuum pump (similar to what I saw you use) . It "held" vacuum when I connected vacuum pump to the fluid reservoir feed hose, but just sucked a bunch of bubbles if I sucked from the slave bleeder valve. My conclusion is there is a blockage in the fluid line between the master and slave and also my slave is kaput with seal leakage. ( I had installed a new master from Bayless last year but then life overtook and I didn't work on it further. I do remember back then the slave was locked up so I took it out and was able to free it up, but I'm guessing the internal seals got damaged when I finally got the actuater rod to move.) This X had sat outside in the rain on four flat tires for many years - everything is rusty, duty, etc. Fluids ( brake and clutch could e 10+ years old). I bought it for $300 and considering the condition I paid too much haha. But figured I'd just tinker around with it and see how far I could get it. My plan is to order a new slave and figure out how to blow out the line between the mater and slave. Your comments welcome! Enjoy the videos - Thank you for doing this for the X community!
@@JohnDavis-iw9lj so what I would recommend trying would be disconnect the Master and slave and try pushing some air through to clear it out if you can. Put in a catch can to see if that is the blockage.. I could be wrong but think that would be a good option to see if you can break anything up that's inside it. Might be a pain and counter productive but it will see if it will clear the line.
You guys are great and some good advice regarding the lift-up headlights because one of mine doesn't know what day it is.. Thanks to the WD40 can-in-frame sponsor too! Keep on keepin 'on and all the best!
Excellent tips, although I do not have the X1/9 I do have the 147 GL which is almost alike the X1/9 and boy I do have electrical problems mostly when the rad's fan turns on and although I've looked and looked I still can't figured it out, will try those tips specially the thick wire from the bat to the fuse box, boy I wish I had a X1/9 though, thank you guys
Trying to get my hands on an X19 right now. It was the first car I ever drove. My parents owned one when my dad was in the army in Germany. My dad would take me to a spot on base and let me drive. Thanks for this channel guys.
Hi! I had an ‘83 white with charcoal stripe, red interior. I sold it to help build our construction business & I miss it so much! Glad to see you folks here - I’ll be watching!
Ah nice! we have been talking a lot the past few days to be improving the structure of the channel and how we are filming whats going on. Its all about Keeping the X1/9's alive!
My story goes like this: I was driving down the street with my dad and saw a Fiat X1/9 for the first time and stayed staring at it and later came back to see if it was for sale, Harry the owner then became a real good friend of mine and I owned my first X 1/9. It had problems and Harry was not going to fix it, I took it and by other friend's help Mark we started getting it to run, Matk even bought a second X1/9 so we could make one of the two, I even installed two fans for the radiator and slowly and surely we had it running, 3 inch clutch included but the sad story is that I took a job away from home and an apartment at beach side, not bad, but dad got visited while I was away by the city control and because the X did not have a license plate they told my dad that he would be fined for each day that the car would stay at the house' yard and so dad sold or practically gave it away, sad, and now I ive at my home country south America Colombia where there are no Xs but I do own a Fiat 147GL 1982 that I'm trying to restore although wish I had an X
Tip for removing the master cylinder.. leave the car outside in the rain for a year, sit inside (with the roof on * important*) and then sneeze... the car will just explode.. Good luck Matthew and Old Man - in tune with all your pain!
Lol yeah this one has been partly stripped for a while! We are going to be getting out to strip it down the rest of the way and get as many panels cut and saved off of it just incase someone is looking for panels! Will be more of a time lapse video I believe!
Oh man we have the fever.... and the cure is more x1/9s!!!! Yeah that whole thing was kinda a swearing-fest! Lol 😆 Oh dang I appreciate it! We are all about keeping the x1/9s alive!!
Good day Warren.. Are you planning the rad mod? - means you can override the rad-fan thermo because if you’re sitting in traffic (as you must do in Washington) its really useful and will save your engine exploding. Got a Black Bertone 86 VS here in the UK which was featured in Classic Car Weekly EP 928. I only clean her with rain water from a hand-spray so she's pretty ok... Hexagonal wheels been replaced with Speeedlines which is the nearest I could get to Cromodara CD50’s without selling a Kidney.. I’m taking it your vehicles are LHD because the tag is mirrored and your hat should probably be reading EMT? Good luck with all your endeavours and to beardy buddy (sorry - no name) so keep these amazing vehicles roadworthy and your ongoing fun with biodegradable wiring - Got a Lancia Dedra 2.0T too so I feel your pain... Keep on keeping' on
I will get back with the old man about your comment! Beard buddy here :) Matthew is the name. I'm Warren's youngest son 😀 Will definitely check out the video you mentioned! Old man is working today but I'm sure he will be looking on here to comment back really soon!
Good job lads keep it up well worth it in the end I had a 1977 X1/9 I drove as a daily driver between 1998 and 2006 inclusive The Problem with bleeding the clutch master cylinder is exactly what you have explained but my understanding also is the clutch master cylinder sits at the highest point in the system so the air always wants to bubble up into the master cylinder itself and it’s a bastard of a thing to get the fluid out you can spend all afternoon pumping that clutch pedal with somebody helping you and she will not come good and then all of a sudden bang……. All good. Keep it up lads very satisfying when it’s all done very good idea to have a parts car all the best from Melbourne Australia……!!
Oh yeah we are so happy with our find. This is Matthew on here today, Had a string of bad luck with two random surgeries in the past few days, Sounds like another next week but I know that the old man wants to get this done so I might be just filming and editing the next few bit! Glad to have you here with the community.
Oh man I wish I could make it from upstate NY but not sure if I'll have my X up and running by then. Dealing with a dead clutch pedal so really informative watching y'all deal with these systems, janky do thanky excited to follow along
Hey everybody... The Old Man here.... I just want to point out that I was honestly surprised at how quickly this thing fired up and ran. Disclaimer.... I DID make sure that there was clean oil on the dipstick and cranked this thing over a few times before hitting it with the starting fluid. Needed to make sure that the oil was circulating a bit. Also... I likely won't be running this engine again until the timing belt has been changed, along with a fresh oil/filter change and a new fuel filter. The gas in the gas tank actually still smells fresh and doesn't appear to have turned to varnish yet, but it's going to get pumped out and get some fuel injector cleaner and a fresh tank of supreme gas. Thanks for watching the video. The Kid is really doing a good job on capturing video and doing some editing. The next video will hopefully give a little more info about this particular car....
gidde up! can't wait, what an undertaking, I'm bringing one back to life as well, can't say enough about these cars and seem like they are really starting to get noticed by a wider audience which bodes well for the remaining ones out there getting saved. godspeed
Oh yes! Our motto is Keeping the X1/9 alive!!! We had the head cold come through but we are going to be picking them up next Monday! New shorts and full videos of recovery will be uploaded. Photos to IG!
