The problem in America is, Whites have ALWAYS named us. But we wanted to shed the derogatory names they gave us, that’s when the problem of our name started. Of course, when we were allowed to have last names, they gave their last names. When I was in school they gave us 3 names. Colored, Negro & the Nword. So about 50 years ago we wanted to finally name ourselves for the first time. We don’t care what they name themselves, but they are all up in what we name ourselves. So give us a moment after 400 yrs. I like that we have have decided on Black and or African American. But now they say they only approve of Black or American. They claim they are ready to accept us as Americans now! 🙄 But I say, Stand Back & Stand Down! We get the last say!

All of the sudden black latinos want to emulate African Americans. What they are failing to understand is that Latinos identity is based on nationality and not race, nationality supercedes race in LATAM, contrary to the U.S. where ethnicity and race supercedes nationality. In my view what U.S. Black latinos are inadvertently doing is separating themselves from the rest of the Latin community and act more like African Americans in the U.S.....
