A lot of Irish people get upset with name Londonderry. But should they.? One interpretation is Lon dun or brown bog Nuar bha mi og furich mi ann londubh or black bog. Ann Alba . Older residents told me in that case was black bog and the English built their capital next to the brown swamp. So Londonderry is quiet apt name for that area. Nach neonach a tha e😅. From England to Ireland 🇮🇪 going native.

Very interesting. I didn't know that the original Wych Elm woods of Ireland never fully recovered from the elm disease epidemic of 3000BC ! Hmm, something to think about with regard to the modern Dutch Elm disease. At least it gives hope that eventually more resistant strains may emerge naturally. Assuming of course, that the recent epidemic wasn't caused by man, such as by air pollution - acid rain and heavy metals, which seem to be disrupting soil chemistry.

I can't believe you tell people trees produce oxygen.. They do not. They separate o2 and co2 while they grow. When they die it recombine. NET ZERO

There are about 111 species of pine worldwide and about 625 conifers, so over half of the conifers aren't pines. Many trees with the name ''pine'' are not actually pines but are colloquially miscalled ''pine''. I liked the video and I'm delighted to hear that Ireland still has it's genetically native pines, the first I've heard about that.

There’s a lovely massive Scot’s pine just out my back. I live beside an old estate that was built a couple hundred years ago (17 hundreds) and the trees in it are protected, meaning there’s some lovely big trees that are probably hundreds of years old

The alder cones can be used to disinfect things. Place them into a muslin bag and make an infusion. Into the rich brown water you can place dishcloths etc. to be ridden of germs.

Mature Ash groves are the most magical places because unlike the Beech, the Ash allows lots of light through to the forest floor and supports many many lifeforms around it. In Norse mythology, the Ash is seen as the creator of the universe and is known as the Yggdrasil. Irish monks were amongst the earliest settlers in Iceland, and Ashes in Iceland and Ireland have the same DNA.
