From memory the rear SCSI only works as back up type files and setting etc... not complete as it doesn't need all of the data. To use the Zulu for complete files you need to use the CD SCSI port.
@fstudiosmusicandvideo7795
@fstudiosmusicandvideo7795 7 дней назад
@@Me-sr9gn I have noticed the way the scsi port is used, the file is in a slightly different format. All the data is there, but it is put together differently than how it’s stored on a disc or the HDD. When I’m done with my project, I may place the ZuluSCSI card in the cd drive and see if any difference is indeed made.
@Me-sr9gn
@Me-sr9gn 6 дней назад
Considering it's SCSI it might be possible to daisy chain it on the CD line so the CD can be kept. Question is will it see the Zulu in the chain as a seperate drive for storage or did they create a more specific code for what the unit was designed to have. I've been meaning to get a Zulu for my AW for a while now so I'll be looking into this as well.
@fstudiosmusicandvideo7795
@fstudiosmusicandvideo7795 6 дней назад
@@Me-sr9gn I haven’t been able to get the AW to recognize the Zulu scsi as a cd drive. It freezes when I try to use it that way. From what I’ve read, if you want the ZuluSCSI to emulate a cd drive, you create the drive image file as an ISO. However, I have also read that with units that do both data and audio, you’re supposed to create two separate drive images under the same scsi ID with one being a .bin file and another a .cue file. Now, when you create files on a cd rom and load them in a computer, the file name starts with an A, but when storing on an external drive, the file name starts with a P. And the extraction program we have recognizes the information is there, but it’s not in a format like the HDD has for the cd has, and therefore remains unreadable except by the AW itself.

@fstudiosmusicandvideo7795
@fstudiosmusicandvideo7795 Месяц назад
@@kevinricesr.9903 worst case scenario is that your cd burner has failed and doesn’t recognize when there is a disc in there. Maybe it’s just not plugged in properly. Maybe you don’t have the cd drive properly selected when trying to burn the disc. Hard to say with this little information. If your cd drive has truly failed, you could try to find a replacement. But there is no guarantee it would work, or for how long. Or, you could join the AW4416 Facebook group and purchase AWMiner from one of our group members whom created it to rip the audio from your hard drive. Or you could purchase ZuluSCSI and create a WAV drive to transfer mixes to as WAV files, and then load the SD chip into your computer, open the virtual hard drive with the appropriate software, and extract the wav file so you could then burn to cd from your computer.

Hello Friend Great channel. I'm getting Tired of my daw and want to record mix and master standalone.... ive decided to go old school and i've narrowed it down to 4 main choices 1) Roland VS 2080,... 2) Akai DPS 24 m2, ... 3) Korg DX32D (if I can find one) , ....4) Yamaha 4416.... Do you have any thoughts, guidance or experience with these 4 systems? Any Input would be Awesome... Thanks!
@fstudiosmusicandvideo7795
@fstudiosmusicandvideo7795 Месяц назад
@@othelo989 they are all great machines. However, they all will be limited in what their editing and fx features offer. And they will be slower to execute editing functions. I chose the AW4416 because it offered everything I was looking for. It could record all tracks at once, uncompressed audio, 44 channels, 20 busses, expandability to make use of the 24 input mixing channels, as well as being able to swap cards out for different needs, 8 aux sends, internal patching, etc… Overall a very flexible machine. But it took a month to really come to understand how to use it. Also, these machines are getting old and will require continued maintenance. Battery replacements, fader replacements for those that have flying faders, etc… They also burn to cd, which can be slow for people that are used to working in DAWs and modern tech. Plus, cdr and cdrw tech has suffered from quality control issues now and it’s easy to get problems in the burn. The cd rom may be old and ready to fail as well. So, replacements will have to be sourced. With the AW, our community has found methods and created software to allow us to forgo the cd rom if it becomes and issue. Despite these machines being older and slower than modern DAWs, my clients prefer how they sound over DAWs. The machines have their own sound, because of how they are designed with physical circuitry. Hope this helps

I started in 99 myself. Used some hand me down cerwin vegas ( pops went to prison ) and a Sansui amp I sourced used. I started at 15 years old. I didn’t know about phase and proper distance and positioning then. Nobody taught me. Anyhow. When I finally got real monitors I went to the hs8’s . Then used a crossover setup on a different output to use the cerwin vega subs . That was 10 years ago. Currently about to build some peerless by tymphany 350f 15 inch subs. Only for low end extension and to high pass the hs8s. 😢hs8s do go decently low but I desire cleaner mids. I have room correction and all that . Ohh. And the wall distance they suggest can be ignored imo. Actually the closer to the front wall they are the flatter and less phase from boundary issues you’ll have. A soffit wall would be ideal.

It is also just as slow as transferring to and from cd. But it definitely works to create work in progress backups.

Inevitable when recording drums using multiple mics. It's the nature of the beast. You can adjust the distance of the two mics from the source to alter the signal, but they will always be out of phase to a degree being that the sound reaches the close mic before the overheads.
@jsraudio
@jsraudio Год назад
@@fstudiosmusicandvideo7795 it's obvious from the lack of low end however that a simple polarity flip would have solved the issue, it's also important to do sound checks to avoid this very issue. I'd recommend doing a quick 10 second test recording when setting up mics in future just to check this out, as phase coherence is one of the make or break elements of a drum recording

@fstudiosmusicandvideo7795

The auto mix function records and plays back all your mixing parameters. So, you can adjust faders, eq settings, fx settings, dynamics settings, and scenes throughout the song, recording those in the auto mix section of the machine. Then every time you play the song back, the machine will recreate the mix as you programmed it and performed it.

I see you left some comments on my Adventures in Reaper Land. But they aren’t appearing on the video, or anywhere where I can respond. So, I’ll reply to you here. Actually, I have found that different amp circuits with different products will change the sound enough to definitely affect your mix. The point will be always to just create a well balanced mix. As long as all the aspects of the mix are balanced, once the track goes to mastering, whatever eq corrections are needed can be made easily. The purpose of the comparisons were to see how the software DAW compares to the YAMAHA system in it’s sound. Going by the numbers, the same settings yielded differing results. It showed that even in the digital domain, a dB isn’t always equal. An EQ, compressor, limiter, etc... just aren’t equal. Placing the two different EQs at the same point, with the same boost, and same Q produced different results, and so forth... In essence, the sound quality is still only as good as the programming of the software that runs it and operates it. And 20 year old tech can still beat modern equipment because it was a superior design. Ultimately, it just shows that you cannot mix with your eyes. You have to mix with your ears. And mixing techniques will have to be changed to get the best results from different gear.
@user-vu3cp4pz3h
@user-vu3cp4pz3h 3 года назад
@@fstudiosmusicandvideo7795 I decided to revoke th e commentary as I was not correct in my supposition) Sure - mixing is about the overall balance which may be fixed later on. Totally agree. I was just really surprised with the dead mid range of the mixdown cooked in Reaper. Yesterday I tried out some bufferring and adio thread priority settings available in Reaper and this showed signifficant chnages in the character of a blend. Strange how the most obvious principles of audio mixing are still ignored, why can't SW developers emulate the overlapping of a tape recording in digits with parametrized controls over audio thread priorities instead of producing those multiple tape sturation plugins. And it seems that I will have to prefer an older solution to a modern stuff again. Hope the seller keeps the AW4416 booked for me)

Is this the final mix? Snare and cymbals sound great but the whole mix is pretty light on the low end (in my opinion). Also it sounds a little like you were keying some mix bus compression from the kick drum as there is bit of pumping I can hear, is this the case?
@fstudiosmusicandvideo7795
@fstudiosmusicandvideo7795 6 лет назад
Yeah, this was the only mix of a demonstration I did for someone else just wanting to see me playing the kit. I spent less than an hour mixing it. There is no bus compression with this machine. It's just compression on the master channel, not within the bus system. They tend to do the same thing, but from what I have read, they are placed in different paths of the signal. Maybe I'm wrong about that. Yes, there is some pumping. I personally liked the track better that way. It was reminiscent of some Metallica and Megadeth tracks I enjoy, as well as other thrash metal bands I listened to back in the day. Bringing the kick down just a couple db got rid of it, but I personally didn't like how it affected the rest of the sound. I wanted more punch in the kick. Especially when hitting the crash at the same time. I suppose I could have made the release on the limiter quicker, but at the point I said the hell with it. It was good enough for its intended purposes. I feel the low end of the track is very well balanced within the rest. Thanks for your interest!
