I've been recording and mixing since 1999. Throughout all those years, I've done my work using headphones! And, my results have been pretty damned good over the years. But, I decided to take the plunge and invest in some studio monitors. I chose the Yamaha HS8 series due to just TWO factors: when looking online, the HS8s showed me the flattest curves, and the Yamaha monitors have been utilized to mix a lot of the best sounding records over the past 50+ years!

Glad you like they will serve you well. I dont use Yamaha sub with the 8’s. I do with the 5’s. #HHNET

I started in 99 myself. Used some hand me down cerwin vegas ( pops went to prison ) and a Sansui amp I sourced used. I started at 15 years old. I didn’t know about phase and proper distance and positioning then. Nobody taught me. Anyhow. When I finally got real monitors I went to the hs8’s . Then used a crossover setup on a different output to use the cerwin vega subs . That was 10 years ago. Currently about to build some peerless by tymphany 350f 15 inch subs. Only for low end extension and to high pass the hs8s. 😢hs8s do go decently low but I desire cleaner mids. I have room correction and all that . Ohh. And the wall distance they suggest can be ignored imo. Actually the closer to the front wall they are the flatter and less phase from boundary issues you’ll have. A soffit wall would be ideal.

hi Brian those koss heapdphones describe themselves as 'for phone use' ie 4pole plug did they come with an adapter for 3pole use?

Koss’s website does not describe them for phone use. They come with a 3.5mm plug to put in music players, computers, tablets, etc… it is a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. If you see their photo, it shows you the standard pole setup. You just buy 3.5mm to quarter in stereo headphone adapters. I prefer the gold adapters.
