Peter Hopton was right, Peter Jones on RS232? That was developed in the 1960s. In fact it was extinct even when this episode was aired. Its the sort of thing you could use with Commodore 64 era computers. Today, its the equivalent of someone saying: "You could use punch cards, it would be an old fashioned way of doing it" "I could do it though couldn't I?"
RS232 eh? 😂 Thats hilarious! Peter Jones's mind will be blown when he discovers Gigabit Ethernet. Quite a shameful bluff to try and pull, all I can imagine is scores of his staff going crazy telnetting into a mainframe to send a simple email. Not very impressed at all.
Awful, impolite den., what a lousy shameful program. Bbc should chane its model forthis one, and get inspired, on the merrier, more polite, less pretentious US shark tank
Well he was misleading the Dragons. The whole green thing is just because the computers he made were slower. He made it sound like he came up with some technology that was making them use less electricity but still as powerful as other PCs. Any computer company could do what he did just by using older and worse parts.
I actually wanted to hear the tech argument between the 2 but the producers probably said "oh this is all technical mumbo jumbo that nobody understands and our brains are starting to hurt....." and just edited it out..... They are literally making sure that only the dumb people stay watching tv.
they have 10 minutes and they need to cut it down from 60 minutes. If you want something like that you should go and put effort into finding debates on online instead of letting the algorithm spoon feed you vaguely related reality TV clips.
Power-savings was the basis of it all, but it does not save power over an equivalent system of conventional technology when used in a network. Individual users will save power. And this tech may suit those with strict limits on power availability. 5 million pounds is ridiculous.
Plenty of "techos" can build a comp. eg my guy who I get for my simple issues can build a comp to a client's spec. from components. Also 100 Watts is not a lot of power, about that of an average light globe. He does not have any thing realy special. I,m out.
I know it was uploaded 14 years ago but I have only just watched this. I actually felt sorry for the guy. They could have been more polite and less savage.
Yes. I have found this clip 14 years too late as i enjoy DD. If you watched the clip again maybe you could see their point of view as to why the Dragons felt insulted.
You know what, Very PC succeeded where eMachines failed, it's survived multiple consumer spending habit changes, multiple recessions and a pandemic. Fair play.
Basically they build PCs from the worst parts from every manufacturer. The worse the part, the less electricity it uses. It doesnt make sense as if someone wants a low power computer, they would buy a laptop. People only buy PCs for high performance, which these PCs do not. They have to be hand built so are more expensive too
@@rickysmythMy dad has a computer sciences degree and has been using home computers since floppy disks, He uses a desktop instead of a laptop despite buying low end rigs because he has a greater range of inputs and outputs, longer part life, no battery issues, he can swap parts out, he has easy access to external and internal drives, there are plenty of reasons to use an extremely low end PC while not using parts like this. If you're someone like my friend, he uses PCs that are barebone kits that he can use in tandem to create makeshift servers that also conveniently can be used as workstations. Personally, I really like to have my machines completely separate because I tend to play fast and loose with security and it's nice to not have to worry about partitioning SSDs and working on internal machines. If I have one machine downloading a terabyte of torrents that I am trusting, it's really nice to have a second machine that is more dedicated than a laptop that can be there if something goes wrong.
All it is that the pcs use less power because they use such basic parts instead of using things like high performance graphics cards and his software of reducing the power consumption is making power saving mode the default setting on Windows. Nothing green indeed
