Hey my friend i really trust your opinions on stuff. I have a 60 gallon reef tank i desperately need a protein skimmer but dont have a sump. In your experience what is the best hob skimmer i should consider?
Sorry to hear. Same thing happened to my foxface awhile back in the middle of a Dino outbreak. Was the only fish that eats algae so may have been the dinos
Interesting take on the possibility of the pistol shrimp playing a role in the fish’s death. The gasping and suddenness of the death makes me think marine velvet. Sorry for your loss. RIP little jewel.
That’s very strange such a downhill spiral so quickly🤔. It’s really sad you lost her. Have you ever thought of maybe having the water tested for any possible pathogens? I remember when I was quarantining all my livestock. Before adding them to the main display, I had Aquabiomics run test on each batch of fish going though quarantine. And then after adding all livestock to the main tank, I had it tested also. I’m a little paranoid like that. Not saying it’s a pathogen of some type, but might give you a little insight and peace of mind. At least maybe rule some things out. When things like this happen, it really makes you wonder sometimes. Japanese Pygmy Angels have always been My favorite of the dwarf species. Such a pretty fish.
It’s a chat & smore pit, but a grate on top could allow grilling. I bought a grated steel cover to put over it to reduce sparks flying out, which would work great as a grill. It’s 36” wide and my fire pit’s inner opening is 34” wide. It rests on the concrete circle perfectly.
Poor baby. I guess fish are like people. Anything can happen unexpectedly to any of us. It’s sad. Sorry Marc. Also I have Dino fragilis on just only my gravel. Seems to go away after lights out but sneaks its way back when lights come on. Video on how to deal with this issue would be helpful and appreciated.
Your tank probbly bottomed out. They go into the water during the night and on the sand and rocks during the day. Raising nutriens can help. Also do a water change after the lights are out and try to suck them out
Sometimes this just die and we don’t ever know why - just like people do Small fish are not durable at all and it doesn’t take much- you see this in freshwater a lot with tetras etc If you have a candy cane pistol shrimp there’s no way that was enough to hurt the angelfish - that shows up over time with injuries.
Hi, just wanted to give you a +1 on the diatom theory. I had a friend I helped with a 20 gallon nano cube. Introduced a captive bred lemmon peel angel among 4 other fish. The angel constantly nipped at the rock work.... diatoms became an issue and some time later with the diatoms still present, the angel mysteriously died with all other fish that didn't have the same grazing tendencies remaining perfectly fine. My theory at the time was that the angel must have consumed the toxic diatoms. Sorry about the loss; that is gut wrenching. Your systems are both gorgeous and an inspiration.
Sorry to hear this. In freshwater the Symptoms that you describe would correspond to high nitrites NO2, and the solution would be to add some salt, which enables the red blodcells of the fish again to assimilate oxigen(citing from the Aquaowner chanel). Therefore in seawater nitrite normaly is not an issue.
A beautiful fish. Sorry for the loss Marc. What’s worse about this situation is the unknown & what caused your fish to pass away. Maybe in time you can do a necropsy and find out.
That's so disappointing, man I'm sorry. You did exactly what I would have done, heavily aerated water and methylene blue based on the symptom of air gulping and lethargy. Perhaps you can get a hold of the fish vet from polo reef and see if he can do a necropsy for you, the gills may have your answer. I recently lost a clown fish I had for 2.5 years too. Not as expensive as your fish, but it just disappeared without a trace. It's so frustrating, especially after doing QT on everything and being fine for years.
I'm so sorry for your loss Marc. I appreciate very much how much you love your fish. They are wonderful creatures with feeling and emotion. Hope you can figure out what happened, in the meantime, chin up! Have a nice evening.
Sorry Marc. I once had wild caught royal grammas which behaved like that just before I discovered they had internal parasites. I tried treating them but it didn’t help. Before they died they would seem to sit or hug against my rock and corals. I thought it seemed similar to what your angel was doing. But being a captive bred fish I would think parasites would be unlikely 🤷🏽
