Pro tip. Take a small filter sock and clip on / mount in your sump, then place the sample line inside the filter sock. Will keep debris from getting in the sample line. Never used the inline filter. As in the video, I took one of those BRS acrylic tubes and ran the sample line through it, for rigidity which makes it easier to place in the filter sock without worry of the sample line getting pulled out of the sock somehow.
Neptune sent you a brand new one because youre known in the saltwater hobby and do a lot for the hobby. Otherwise you'd get what we all get... a used unit that you have no idea if the previous person took care of it.

@@melevsreef yea inflation but this hobby was getting out of control way before this. Especially the prices of coral. I went to Reefapalooza NY this year and I walked out with 0. The prices these vendors are setting for these tiny frags are just laughable and sad at the same time. I guess when Top shelf aquatics sells a 1 inch frag for 2000$ everyone else thinks it’s ok 👍🏻. If it keeps up like this the hobby will die
@@Botzz28 I disagree with you. I was shopping with a friend at Aquashella and we both ended up buying quite a few because the pricing was so reasonable. You just need to look, take your time, ask questions. I probably spent $300 or so and came home with six new corals. My buddy easily bought a dozen frags from various sellers. Yes, you can peruse some vendors like Top Shelf and get sticker shock, but there are plenty of coral sellers with normal pricing.
I failed my trident🤦🏼♂️. Coming up on a year and I'm still trying to get my parameters in line. I'm a farmer so I really need to get it working before the growing season starts. This last year I lost like 2k in torches and lots more. I was using a jabeo wifi doser and everything had been perfect. I did all the set up which was nice and easier as stated by Melvin. Transferred those numbers to my trident and dos and parameters went crazy! I think I'm closer now but i just can't get my Ca and Mg in place but KH is good. I have a 470g system and I feel like my amounts are so low but I can't lower Ca any lower so I feel hopeless again! If anyone has some thoughts I would love to hear it! I have put so much time in the last 10+ years into helping others I hope I can get this figured out...
@melevsreef only thing I would caution is where you have it located. An accidental spill while refilling reagents or I have heard of the trident's hoses coming off and leaking reagents and those look like they would get into your sump pretty easily. Maybe fabricate a small tray for the trident to sit in.
Did you intend to skip the trident replacement task since you were replacing another trident? Running that will swap the address of the new trident to the address of your old trident which means you retain the historical test data from your old one. You should also mention that it needs to run tests for 24-48 hours before you calibrate it to ensure that it is testing properly prior to the calibration. :) Nice video and great detail.
I had already deleted the Trident module entirely, and removed all the alerts I was getting because it wasn't running. That's why I chose fresh install. My data was deleted when I removed the Trident from the dashboard. I was getting at minimum 2 alerts per hour, which drives me crazy. Plus seeing the Alarm icon activated at the top non-stop isn't how I run my Apex. When I get an alarm, I correct it so the system is "green" again. I don't want another alarm to happen, buried under the current bell, as I'd probably miss it then.
Mark.....you would've thrown a hissy fit if they would've sent you a refurbished unit. They know you too well....as well..so of course you're going to get a brand new unit while the rest of us get refurbs.
Back when the Hanna nitrate checker was just released Ryan/BRS was on a Lets Talk Reef or whatever the Neptune series was and joked about a nitrate test. Now that Hanna released their powder hobbyist may be willing to pay a couple hundred bucks for a nitrate and phosphate module. Who knows. GHL has the ION probe but as you can see that is proving to be a technical challenge for saltwater. Have a great weekend.
Not a fan of the trident, my lasted about 6 months and us commoners have to pay to replace them. And the reason you didn’t get a refurbished one was because I sent mine to the trash heap. Why throw good money after a bad product, had several other of apex products not last 3 months.
Just goes to show how two hobbyist use the same product yet have different experiences. Many use it with great success. To your point about commoners it wasn't said on the video but you do not know if Melevsreef didn't pay for the service? I don't know him but having a Trident and using both self service and cross ship I would error on the side that he paid for the cross ship service which is probably the better deal and why he received a new one. There are three service options if needed. DIY, lowest cost. Send, receive, could be refurbished, and cross ship which is the most expensive but includes shipping and reagents. Give him a break. @@saf1671 considering how the dos stuck on and turned my 125 into a snow globe over night, then the atk would either bring the biblical flood or drought then the trident showin calcium at 250 and failed to test anything else. My apex is used to turn the lights on and off for the sump, can’t trust it for nothing else. Sorry if your a fanboy but apex has left a bad taste in my mouth and a lot of others as well.

i don't get why they made it so ugly, i'd rather have a big grey box than whatever this is. its definitely not looking good enough that i'd want to show it off either. im sure it works great, but man is it ugly.
