Sir, in reference to your theory stating time constant is infinite, from the first method (pulse input) it takes infinite time for the capacitor to charge, but in normal circuits also the capacitor takes infinite time to charge with finite time constant
We can confirm it from Id vs Vds also. When in saturation you will take small change in ids large change in vds and when in triode region small change in id gives same change in vds.
