What does Pueblo Magico of Tequila mean? lol people magic of tequila 😶 Its like word salad haha.
@GeorgiaandDavid
@GeorgiaandDavid 17 дней назад
"Pueblo Magico" or magic town, is a title given by the secretary of tourism to small towns throughout Mexico. Tequila is one of those towns. Sometimes the award is given for the town's natural beauty, history, a specific art or craft, a unique dish, or in the case of tequila its speciality drink. Currently there are 177 of these magic towns and our current goal is to visit 100 pueblos magicos.

This city has changed a lot since my chilehood (belive me.... A LOT). In the 70's-80's it was not as touristy as it is nowadays. You videos have an excellent level of production. Congratullations for that. This video in particular brought back good memories..... See the house painted green by the Parque López (around minute 7:25)? Sorry, this is a bit off topic, but have you considered producing a video about your experience seeing Mayan sites in general to perhaps rank them in order of which you believe are most worthwhile? I feel like you are unique in visiting so many types and in different areas and would have good insight. Most people will never have the time to do what you did and helping people focus on the ones that are less crowded, less expensive and high quality would be amazing. Not sure if it is a video or a document/web site. Also some general thoughts about what towns in Yucatan should be a priority for visitors going for a week or two at a time thanks for all the information you share.

Thank you for showing a lil about our great city. We are very welcoming to tourists. I strongly recommend to go to a Baseball game, our local team, Saraperos de Saltillo, is a complete different experience from a regular MLB game where is more family friendly. While still family friendly, Mexican baseball fans tend to be a lil more wild! Also, another great part of saltillo is about 10-15 min drive where you can go to Monterreal or a lil town called San Antonio de las Alazanas. It’s up in the mountains but it’s so pretty that it looks like friggin Switzerland. Forest, woods, organic apple, it snows pretty much every winter and you can ski all year long! Imagine an unexplored Aspen with Mexican prices! Also, 1:30 min away driving west, we have Parras de la Fuente, we have the most ancient wineries of the continent! They’re not only ancient but also fancy and upscale. (Thomas A. Edison also lighted that lil town as an experiment before any other city in the world!) Again, thank you and please visit us more! Greetings from a native saltillense residing in Dallas Tx 🫶🏻

Hola Georgia and David. It's really interesting to see how things have changed since 1974. I had no reason to visit Tapijulapa. That area of Tabasco was never mentioned in the guide books and roads in that area were either gravel or dirt and rivers were often crossed by ferries rather than bridges. Interesting to see the churches. Most appear to be late 19th century or 20th century, like most of the churches in Villahermosa. There were early churches in the area but few have survived, perhaps due to rain, humidity, flooding and the occasional fire. The Parroquia San Francisco de Asis in Jalapa de Mendez has a very obvious neoclassical facade and was a very ambitious undertaking for the area if built during the 19th century, and the Parroquia Santiago Apostol in Tapijulapa might be old, but it is also simple enough that it could be early 20th century, I can't tell. The rest are fairly fanciful designs, but they may include within their core the remains of an earlier church. As a group very picturesque although I still prefer the colonial era churches. Comalcalco is huge compared to 1974. Actually it is the same size but in 1974 the restored ruins consisted of a single plaza surrounded by three to four mounds with temple remnants atop some of them. Everything else consisted of poorly defined vegetation covered mounds. The road to the ruins was powdery dirt, and any car on the "road" appeared to be chased by a dust storm. The cacao tour looks interesting. I love the red ginger plants. When I make cocoa I take my lead from the Maya and Mexica, adding cayenne pepper rather than sugar, plus cinnamon and maybe vanilla. I hope you are having weather that is not too hot or wet. I guess Villahermosa will be next week, and I look forward to that.
@GeorgiaandDavid
@GeorgiaandDavid Месяц назад
It was a very interesting part of Mexico. Even now there is almost no international tourism. It felt a lot less colonial and we saw many more women in traditional clothing. I enjoyed seeing the church designs that they came up with. I love visiting the more detailed colonial churches but this was a fun change. I loved the cacao tour she went into so much detail about so many of the plants in the area. It is definitely getting hotter and wetter but I imagine it will be at least a little dryer in Baja.

Hola Georgia and David. Campeche looks great in your video. Very colorful and inviting. I'm a little bit envious. 50 years ago I arrived early in the afternoon and it rained until after dark. The next morning it was raining again and continued to do so until after I gave up and left. I did some soggy sightseeing but didn't take a single photo, so your video shows me some of what I missed. Of course now the museums are more developed. 50 years ago most of the sites you visited in the state of Campeche had not been excavated and restored. Too bad San Jose was closed for restoration. Tiled churches are rare in the Yucatan Peninsula, and San Jose has the added oddity of having a lighthouse atop one of its towers. Odd that San Jose and the cathedral were also undergoing restoration at the same time, I guess the government is trying to catch up on deferred maintenance before the Maya Train begins to bring zillions of tourists to the city. At least San Francisquito was open. It has what are probably the best gilded retablos in Campeche, so thank you for showing those. Did you see the adjacent cloister? It;s ironic that you have such good luck seeing the Mayan ruins by yourselves but have such bad luck finding an open church. I read that the new Edzna archaeology museum opened this past week. The washing machine in your rented house reminds me of the one my mother had to use prior to 1951. It had a hand-cranked wringer atop the washer, and wet clothes were removed from the machine and run through the rollers before hanging the clothes up to dry. Well, at least you didn't have to wash your clothes by beating them on a rock in a river the way I did in Sayulita. This week Mexico announced the addition of 12 additional barrios magicos, bringing the total number of pueblos magicos and barrios magicos to 209. I think it is a plot by the restaurant owners association to keep you in Mexico and eating very well. How is your weather? Rainy? A heavy rain in Merida last week left some streets knee deep from the runoff. I experienced some of that 50 years ago. Fortunately the water seems to disappear relatively quickly. Hopefully the hurricanes aimed at Colima to Guerrero won't affect Mazatlan too much. I suppose your next video is Villahermosa. There are several ruins in the area but the best are in the park for the La Venta sculptures and at Comalcalco. I think there are now three pueblos magicos in the area. 50 years ago none of the towns seemed to be magical, although many had a seedy charm wrapped in tropical decay. I did encounter two Lacandon Indians wandering around Villahermosa late one night. They are easy to spot when wearing their traditional traje indigena. In 1974 at least eight rivers in the area were crossed by ferries, including a large ferry to reach Frontera. I hope that after leaving Villahermosa you had a chance to visit Lago Catemaco and the nearby Salto de Eyipantla. I know you love waterfalls. Also Tlacotalpan, which I think might be a World Heritage Site. How much longer do you have in Mazatlan? Stay safe. And dry. And cool. Well, one of the three anyway.
@GeorgiaandDavid
@GeorgiaandDavid Месяц назад
If Campeche wasn't so hot and humid it would be a contender for us for long term living. The streets were beautiful and cleaner than most in Mexico. The food was excellent and we love a sunset over the water. The Mexican government is definitely catching up on all their deferred maintenance with the train on its way. We never had a washer like that one before but I do feel like it cleaned the clothes better than those new high efficiency ones. One day in the future we might have to plan a barrios magicos tour lol. The past three days have been beautiful and sunny with a bit of rain overnight. Unfortunately we didn't make it to any of those sites. Next week we take the ferry over to Baja.
