I know that this is an old video but here goes anyway. I’m building quite a few knives a month lately and while I don’t have access to that particular type of Birch, I can use a spalted Maple that is almost identical. As you have mentioned the softness of the “Spalted” material and I have noticed it as well. I am intending to try out a product called “Cactus Juice” that actually hardens softer wood. I would like to purchase some of that fancy birch but the price from the supplier I use is outrageous. So my Maple will be almost a direct replacement. Well you might want to try that Cactus Juice on some of the softer stuff so that it can be made to be useful for a knife handle.
Hi I have just watched a couple more of your clips. Your knives are a thing of beauty and you are such a talented man. I know I have asked previously but if you have one for sale or a pair like these two beautiful knives and would consider selling them to me please let me know. Keep up the good work love watching your films.
Hi.In the late sixties I worked with a Norwegian guy who described Leuku as being about 8 inches long. Now I see examples of a much broader range than I had thought he meant. What size do you think was most commonly used by Sami people. Both length and thickness of blade.
Hi! The function of the leuku is to act as a billhook and therefore it is good for it to have size and mass. The heavier it is, the easier it is to cut wood. I think that the range of the lenght is somewhere between 160-300mm and the thickness 4-5mm.
Hello my name is Des and I am from Australia. I have just watched your video for the third time and I am amazed at how beautiful the knife you have made is. I was wondering if it would be possible to buy one of these knives from you I would love to try and make one for myself but unfortunately I am visually impaired and cannot see well enough for it, if I could purchase one from you or get you to make one for me that I could purchase I would think that was fantastic. Once again. Your knife is a thing of beauty. Looking forward to hearing from you Des.
Hi! Thank you for your message and words, I appreciate it. I have received so many inquiries about my knives that I have considered making a few knives for sale. I'll let you know on my channel IF knives go on sale :)
@@kiehicraft thank you for your quick response. If you could mark me down for one when you make them doesn’t matter how long it takes. I would really appreciate one. They are such a beautiful looking knife program. Couldn’t I will pay whatever you want just one thank you very very much again. Look forward to seeing more video clips as well. Des
hi Sami, I don't really know how to describe your craftsmanship and talent all i can say is AMAZING. i searched around a bit but couldn't find out if any of your creations are for sale or not. ive always wanted a decent puukko. please let me know if it's possible to purchase one of your knives.
Perfect wood & leather work but forging wise I think the bevels looks like the ones I make(Im 3 knifes old😅). I sure the are tempered to perfecttion, looks doesn't mater much unless the steel does what it's supposed to do RIGHT?
I used polyurethane glue, but i forgot to show it in the video. Traditionally glue has not been used. The leather tightens around the wood surprisingly tight
