Sorry this video is just reading too much in the movie focusing on secondary things. The main point of the movie is what everybody has always understood about the movie.

Now I want a video where you argue your premise for the Prestiege (there is no loss of spiritual/magical with modernity) versus Fight Club (modernity causes disaffection).
@hawksley8282
@hawksley8282 9 часов назад
Fight Club is about the narrator reconciling his masculine and feminine side, Marla and Tyler are both fictional aspects of the narrator (masculine and feminine). Eventually his feminine side wins out when you see the shot of Norton and Carter looking like the same person from behind. In the book this is more apparent because the narrator has bilateral testicular cancer and will have his balls removed, hence the need to embrace his feminine side.

The narrator didn't regain his ability to sleep, he was having blackouts as Tyler took over his personality. Fight Club was an obvious rejection of that philosophy.

Shapiro is a complete phony, but if I had to steel-man his argument I would say he means an ideology that is tautological and all-encompassing, which the hyper-socialized Left tends to fall victim to.

My takeaway: Trump supporters are like self-destructive lemmings devoted to a narrator who tells them that everything is terrible and promises some vague utopia by a return to a simpler time.

The reversal of forwards and backwards stereotypes can even be traced as far back as the beginnings of slavery during the early modern period. Many defended slavery by saying that it was an institution the Romans and Greeks had, so it can't be that right? Not mentioning/knowing that it was partially the institution of slavery which slowly rotted away the Greco-Roman civilization from the inside.

While it's an iconic film, the plot hole is that there is technology that we don't have which some other "smart guy" or guys had to create. We don't see those, but they would've had to be known because of their identity tattoo. Not everyone was a total moron either as depicted, it wouldn't just be a society in danger, but one that collapsed. Those in control of corporations would've had to to be educated to get their products to the shelves and manage their media. A society can't exist without responsible adults to keep things going. You can see a form of this now in Russia where their education system collapsed in the mid-80s and today they don't have enough educated people to make their technology from the 90s and beyond work properly. Further their would be anarchy and a country like the US would've dissolved Judge hit on some key aspects of a societal backslide, but missed on others aspects like social media

When you actually talk to people they don't have a problem with capitalism they have a problem with corporatism. We're living it for example youtube a public space is censored and favors whatever view the nepo-children decide is correct for us. Western society is gone as it was once known. Individual liberty is not an idea i use to describe our current oligarchy.

What's funny is I have noticed this "cultural buzzwords" phenomenon in the educational world. There are a lot of "influencers" in education who spew what should be done in the classroom - but their takes ignore context of situations. I actually remember sitting in a meeting where I did not understand what the speaker was saying because it was JUST buzzwords. There was no clear point being presented. It's crazy this video only got recommended to me now. An excellent video essay.

I don’t think “Loss of status” is what best describes modern disaffected right-leaning people. I think it’s disgust at conformity and blind trust in institutions. It’s anti-gullibility and pro-decentralization. Not bitter about loss of status. Where do people come up with this?

Tyler isn’t real. Neither is Marla. Nor is the fight club real. None of it’s real. No one outside of the bubble acknowledges any character even meatloaf isn’t looked at by a single other person in the support group. If you don’t believe me rewatch it with this idea in mind and you will see how painfully obvious it is that the fight club is all in his head. The best example is there is a scene where he walks into a bar and all the chairs are up and the place is closed. He looks in a room and when he turns back suddenly there is a bartender there and all the chairs are down and the bartender is the one that breaks it to him that he’s Tyler.

My only problem with this is: If we can't trust others to give us information, where are we supposed to get information from? Everything we read was written by a person. Do we just not believe any and all text? All verification processes would default back to information someone else wrote. By this standard all we can believe in is what we have personal experience with. I can't subscribe to that.

Django is fraught with contradictions. It is both rebellious but also negates rebellion. Django has no connection to other slaves most of the movie, and was "1 of 10,000", yet he literally destroys the plantation and kills his oppressors. Hilde is by and large a passive figure, in contrast to her Nordic mythological namesake, but she presses the plunger that lows up Candieland. Of course both of these situations are a function of the built in material limitations of their respective roles. Django HAD to avoid showing solidarity with other slaves and Hilde had to live within the space she occupied as well. Failure to do so would severe consequences. Also, constant use of the n bomb becomes a bit problematic. Nonetheless, the film is stimulating and provokes thought and discussion. Lastly, Trump called the movie anti white. Yet the hero is white (Dr. Shultz) and the villain is black (Stephen).
