My name is Devan Bumstead and I’ve been leading worship and chasing tone for over 20 years. I’m a full time Associate Pastor at a small Christian church, a husband and a father of 3. But the truth is, I’m still as thirsty as ever to pursue Jesus more completely and honor Him by devoting my craft to the Kingdom.
“The Tone Shepherd” is simply my way of passing on whatever I’ve received to the worship community. This channel will be full of both electric guitar content and other production resources as well as devotional material and encouragement for those leading or serving on praise teams.
I’d love to have you join me over on Instagram as well @thetoneshepherd where I post a mixture of practical tone tips with worship thoughts-an equal blend of heart and craft. My website is also a good place to find resources and follow my blog (thetoneshepherd.com).
I’d sincerely love to connect with you so drop me a comment in one of the videos or send me a DM!
I don’t remember the video addressing this, but do you use the noise gate, compression, or reverb on the alternative parameters? Or do you have them completely off?
I just bought a QC and am gonna purchase this incredible build you created, thank you btw! My question is I primarily play stereo with the doubler. In your opinion / experience, where do you stay mono (solos?) and where did you double before going into your amp capture? In a trio live setting, I’m leaning on doubling the whole time. Any suggestions or advice is appreciated! I run stereo straight to FOH
I just got mine and will use it in the simplest way, as an overdrive pedal, but in all my research the one thing in common turning off people from this unit is the software, if IK asks, tell them they are losing costumer over the crappy UI. Nice video!
Ok what's it going to cost me? If i go with two physical amps with hx stomp for control and stereo fx, its gonna be expensive if i go teo tonex one's at a lower price point with hx stomp and morning star mc6 midi footswitch controller with out board dirt pedals would accomplish this set up, mid price range.
With the ToneX One connected via USB-C, what I am hearing when I try to preview an amp, and what I hear when I import a capture into the pedal are completely different. I think that both the capture on the pedal and the capture that I am trying to preview are playing back at the same time. I have no idea how to stop the hardware from playing back along with the previewed capture. You seem to be able to do that in your video, so hoping that you can help me? Also, in the ToneX One manual, it says that I can record the processed signal on input 1, and the dry signal on input 2. On my setup, if I create two mono inputs, it’s just the left and right channel of the processed signal. I can’t seem to figure out how to track the processed and dry signals together. Any ideas? Cheers!
Great video. Super helpful. The thing that still confuses me is the LED color when setting the input trim on the tonex one. If I set it to taste and still in the green with no effects, my overdrive pedals push it into the red. Am I losing signal to clipping when it goes to red?
Currently, there's no way to directly edit the ToneX pedal while it's connected to the computer. You have to do all the editing on the computer and then drag that preset in the Librarian to the pedal.
Hi! your video was so helpful.. but can i ask something? Can i use tonex as AMP simulator and ox stomp pedal as CAB simulator? I can't afford two tonex pedals coz theres no space in my pedal board...
I am still trying to get my QC working with midi. There is terrible latency switching between scenes. I was under the impression the correct way to use this live is to setup a single preset per song and then create scenes turning things on and off per scene. Is that how you use your QC?
Well, the software has changed since this video was posted. For my version of ToneX at least, navigate the the "Home" tab on the top left. Then, right below that, there's a black bar that says "My Preset" (at least it says this when you first open the software before clicking anything else). Just single-click that space and there will be a drop-down menu that includes "Import Preset" as one of the options.
Tone Factor's captures are slightly darker by default just because of how they captured them. However, I think you can discover, the more time you spend with them, that because they're darker they actually sit in a mix in a more pleasing way. You can also use brighter verbs and brighter overdrives to get some of that clarity back. But if you still want something brighter, my captures are slightly brighter and I have some similar amps as what they offer.
loved the video man! Great tones and playing. I loved that you showed us the guitar both in the context of a mix as well Really impressed with this guitar
Just found your channel after my friend Matt on his EGSource channel tested your ToneX captures. Needless to say he loved them and mentioned that FOH guys said they needed the least EQ changes out of all that he's used. Having just bought two ToneX Ones, man these things are incredible and make amp hunting so much fun! Add to that the fact that we both play Duesenberg Starplayer TVs, what's not to like? Love your heart and your skills, blessings and keep going strong!
Is it possible to use these Drive captures and add them with some other third-party amp capture on the same preset? Build my own complex rig using two captures... I don't know if you'll be able to understand my doubt...
You are not able to load two captures on one hardware device. The overdrives could be captured with the amp when the creator sets up the capture, but not afterwards. This is where having multiple ToneX pedals can come in handy. I use a few of them on my board so I can have stereo amps and have one dedicated to overdrives.
You got it! First purchase it at thetoneshepherd.com and then follow this video for instructions on how to transfer it! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QMZ7uDLJki8.html
Hi great video and harness!! I ordered one for my Strat HSS, but I wanted to ask... since my American Standard single coils are 5.90 & 5.95 DC resistance and my Thornbucker+ is 9.1 DC, to avoid having a weak bridge coil split..how do you suggest to set the split?
It's hard to say to be honest. It's something I had to play with for a bit. Which is a bit of a hassle since you have to disassemble the guitar to do that. But it's worth the tweaking to get it right!
I purchased the AC30 and Matchless patches. They sound great! I’d like to thicken up my lead tones but I don’t want it to sound too bassy. Any tips on how to thicken my lead clean tone? Boost mids? Adjust depth/presence? Mainly clean tones…I like how it sounds with using my drives.
The pedal itself is a great device, the software is difficult and confusing as most have stated. Besides watching videos, which are not always reliable due to the changes in the software updates, I found the obvious answer for many of my own questions: read the Amplitube Tonex software user manual (this is different than the Tonex pedal manual). I say this because I think many, including myself are just too anxious to get going and assume they are smart enough to click around and figure it out. But most likely you will not grasp all of concepts correctly and that will increase your frustration. I’m serious, read the manual. I spent this week going page by page and now I understand so much more! Thank you Tone Shepherd for your video and God bless.

There's a bar with quick links across all my pages. If you go to the "Quad Cortex" link, the Signature Preset is the first one to appear. But here's the direct link for your convenience. Thanks for checking it out! www.thetoneshepherd.com/store/p/signature-qc-preset
Got mine today Disappointment..ODs and heavier sounds are fizzy sounding , flabby low end on all of them . They dont clean up very well either..I wanted to use it mainly for live sound through a PA but will be returning it
Make absolutely sure you adjust the Input Trim as this control affects all captures globally. I have a video on that here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-J_J8HkoIIks.html
Great question! I'm using Revenant as an always-on EQ. It's just coloring my tone ever so slightly and I can tweak things for different guitars if needed.
I see you sampling/listening to all the Tone model and also presets. How do you do that? When I do it, nothing samples. I have my pedal attached. Are you listening through monitor speakers and not your amp itself?
What's up, man? I'm wanting to buy the bad cat pack. However, I would like to know if I will have a phase problem with them. I really liked the combination of the BCs with the different speakers. In other words, are they already out of phase or would I have to use another amp?
Love the tones. Just trying to learn the song, it was a little hard to pick up that second guitar and distinguish with the lush, stereo, dripping tones
Yeah, I totally get that...it's the struggle between making two separate videos for each part or stacking them like this...I'm still deciding what my preferred method is.
I am looking forward to hearing your take on the Fractalverse.... I am so close to bowing out and going QC because I feel that the fractal amps just don't take drives and wet effects before the amp well, even compared to HX. And to be clear I am not talking about external pedals, I am talking about within the platform itself. I see many in the P&W community go "all in" on FM9t but for maybe 6 months and the pull the plug. But maybe that is what all of us gear addicted do, on to the next shiny thing.... I have two ToneX sitting on my desk and as soon as I can get a weekend to spare I am going to try running them in the loop of the FM9 as my amps, but that would kind of defeat having an "all in one" solution.
I can't believe that IK intentionally designed the tone models to have global settings from the upper window Noise Gate, Reverb, etc. Each tone model should exist as an individual/separate tone patch! At least give the user the OPTION to apply globally or not. The only saving grace appears to be that those changes aren't permanently saved to the tone model if you click over to ToneNet or close/open Tonex software, etc. If they DID save permanently, it would screw up all the tone models from what the designer intended! One would also expect that after you make any changes (as helpfully indicated by the asterisk IK designed into the Tone Model name), that you'd be prompted to save those changes.
@@thetoneshepherd my tonex one pedal is so noisy i couldnt use it, software was limited, and they wanted more money for the full version , i sent it back after one day
