Hi mate, I was walking there last week and was rather hoping to see a couple of Dolphins roar past😁 Great trip as always although I think you should have an inflatable kayak in yer car ready for action 😂
As always, great flying! Love the slow mo shots. Are you filming with a GoPro? Or is that all shot with the DJI onboard? How long were you in the black until video reestablished?
Yes, old GoPro 7 Black. Cheap on the second hand market these days. It took a while for video to return, after I'd passed the hill. Turns out I forgot to change my vtx channel so was flying on DJI 5 while DCW was on 4, which probably didn't help!
Hi, the digital feed? Yes, more or less. The live feed to goggles actually looks a bit sharper than the compressed recording. This video is all DJI video feed if you want to see more: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3p1dCohOKKg.html
@@ZaksterBlue I just looked up the map of the bay. Impressive distances. I still find that at that sort of distance I turn into a chickenshit pilot. Your INAV tune looks pretty decent. I've been on a crusade lately to get my Penguin flying as locked-in as possible like a quad. Hoping to learn more from other peoples experiences. I assume you have dialed some parameters?
@@JamesDowningFPV I've probably gone the other way and relaxed my roll tune, P=3, I=14, D=10 or so. Mainly to reduce the little micro roll jitters. Also running 6v for servos and higher refresh cycle to try and reduce latency. Nothing major. Other tuning theories include moderate P but high I gain to keep on track no matter what, with D to soften the reaction. Haven't tried this method yet but likely to bring back the micro roll jitters I dislike.
@@ZaksterBlue I've been through a lot of phases with my tune. There's such an interplay with the filters on the effectivity of P and D. There can be a significant delay in the stock filter settings that really affect how well the system responds. I used to also have an issue with my D being so delayed that it would essentially overlap with P and over-respond to things. I think I've got it pretty locked in now, but its a been a long road. I don't even remember all that I've changed!
Are you talking about the motor audibly "revving" a few times before the landing? That's just him goosing the throttle a little to give him a little extra airspeed to make it to his landing site instead of landing in the surf.
Yep, just blipping throttle to avoid a stall and get to the landing spot without gaining much speed. Technically you could add reverse to a brushless motor by using a bi-directional (3D) ESC. Your throttle resolution would be halved though, as mid-stick is then 'low'.
Nice video and all but you do realize its not legal? You have to be able to see the plane / drone with your eyes at all times. You are providing video evidence and believe me they troll youtube looking for stuff like this.
A beautiful tour Zak. For a "beat up" old airframe it sure does well😉 It appeared a pretty long trip so the old battery is doing well still too! Will be over in two weeks so hope to catch up😁
@@funkynerd_com the old old original dolphin, which was nosed in at 4 mins into this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gxUn7s__n84.html
I flew an old FPV wing in North Carolina where there are lots of trees and easily obscured lines of sight. The video signal was atrocious. I should have tried to set it up with 1.3 GHz, but I didn't really know what I was doing back then.
Digital video does pretty well with patch antennas, but yeah - if you are flying on the fringes of line-of-sight coverage, not much will beat 1.3G on a ground station.
Unlucky on the bird strike, Zak! The dedication you both put into try and range in the losses, I was hoping you had a successful recovery. Three words mate! Faster stronger better. You can rebuild him. Great Video Zak! As always.
Bummer Zak- what a shame !! You both did well to even get up there, but what a tease to just find the fin hey!! If you're anything like me you would have walked away counting all the individual cost of everything you lost and be pissed off by the result!! looking forward to V3 though, although I'm struggling to find another over here right now :(
RIP, the Dolphin has brought us some amazing videos! It's shown me places I will probably never see in person. Your setup made for some of the best cinematic videos on RU-vid. Watching your channel keeps me motivated to get out there and fly so thank you and RIP to your awesome plane! Looking forward to seeing what plane you build next so please do a build video, the more detailed the better. Because I'm a geek, lol.
Hi Can you share more information regarding to the VRX and antenna in the ground station? Currently I am using 5.8G VTX AKk race ranger 1.6W and ORT Pagoda as the antenna in my plane For the ground station, I use diversity module DIY with ORT Patch Feeder I want to increase my Video Range Thank you
Hi, I didn't use ground stations - just crosshair antennas on goggles on 5.8g, so can't really make recommendations sorry. How much range are you getting now? You could consider switching to a 1.2/1.3ghz setup for longer range on analogue, or the Walksnail system on digital.
