I feel for them but you can't let people live like that like it's 1600 with no plumbing or anything. It's basically a homeless encampment- not Hawaiian history. I don't think the alihi hung out there.
Where are this place's now ? Owned by rich mainland pe0ple, miss the plantation village life. Hawaii plantation gone for ever😢. Nothing but million dollar plus$$$$$$$ housing which hawaii people cannot afford, plus caused of living is out of control , if your from the mainland originally and try to run for political party please pack up and leaved this state and go back to your state and town we don't need you here, but your welcome to visit anytime but don't stay.🤙
Stories like this us guys cannot forget. This pisses me off watching that bulldozer.. eh foreal kine.. wouldn't it be something if we had just a sliver of land we could call home? This 50% hawaiian blood quantum is pure garbage. I have hawaiian blood but it's not enough to qualify for housing. Too many egrets with their long necks occupy hawaii nowdays.. outsiders should not be allowed to own property in Hawaii.

I saw “Nalo” and had to share this. I hope us Hawaiians can be receptive to this mana’o and not be offended. A slang created out of innocence and naivety “ Molos” for Moloka’i and I had to correct my Ohana to say our island name correctly. If not going be pa’a - future generations going be ma’a to the word. The same for Nalo - I’ve heard it before. I know it sounds manini but I think it needs to be said. Mahalo.
I go to Hawaii to learn about the history, the land, the culture, the traditions, to hear story, and s l o w l y learning their beautiful language. To me, THAT is where the beauty of the islands comes from.
As you drive onto Sand Island, my dad and his friends built a cabin just off to the right side. One of my uncles lived in it and we would go there every weekend. Believe it or not, my distant cousin, Keanu Reeves grandpa "Uncle Sam" is what we called him, had his cabin right next door.
This is so heart breaking. All my keiki life growing up on Punchbowl in the 80s, and all the time spent at Sand Island after their land was taken, and nobody ever educated me about the history. It makes me angry really. I learned by comments here, some remember watching this in history class. I don't. Hawaiian people deserve/deserved better. Can't believe I'm only learning this now. How can Hawaiians recover from something like this? Tired of land being stolen from indigenous over and over again. We need real solutions, not thievery. I have to say, there was always a sad feeling there, now I know why!

Hawaiians were treated unfairly. Kids of Hawaiian descent were in the lowest class. They didn’t all look Hawaiian. Me n my friends were mixed race, Hawaiian, Portuguese, English, Irish, German,French, Chinese. Come party time, me n my friends passing food to the kids in the low class. Why do people segregate races? Arrogance, ignorance, etc.
This is interesting. Is it still like that? I'm a teacher, and I am thinking a lot about Hawaii and watching videos like this. I think I need to move there.
