Have a 23 tpi with your V1 relocation block...no ECU work....was thinking about going with a RK TEK head as they say stock ECU works great with their product..in your opinion, should I keep stock head and go with a reflash? Just looking for the best route to go
I enjoy your common sense videos, I have a friend who would always comment on my 300 having spooge coming out of the silencer. I always tell him if it didn't I would be concerned, it's lubrication for the piston. 70 hours in on his TBI 300 that had no spooge from the silencer now has a piston with exhaust side scuffed off and bore damage.
1982 ish xr 500 honda had reed intake as I remember, being the xr and the off road model it was intended to deal with cam overlap i think more than emissions in that model.
It's taken me a while to get my head around it but I think iv got it now and interested to put on my 18. How would the bikes ECU change the fueling now oil ratio is gone ?
The ecu fueling remains the same. When you add oil to fuel, the air to fuel ratio leans out, since some of the fuel that would pass through the injector, is now oil. Luckily all the testing with the air / fuel gauges, prove time and time again, that you can easily add 2 ounces of oil to each gallon of gas in the gas tank. More oil than that, starts to show the bike running leaner. Still far from lena to cause damage though.
Just throwing this out there.....on my KTM street bikes (690 SMC R and Duke 890 R)....the stock signals look identical to those donkey ears on your bike. I ordered the OEM Euro turnsignals which are much more svelte and LED. On my 690, they were plug and play (although they flash a bit faster). On my 890 LED mode had to be enabled at the dealer in the bikes BCM. Everything bolts up and has the correct connectors just as the North American signals do. Just a thought.
Hi , ive just bought my first 300 tpi , coming off carb . i plan to do this mod . But before i go out on my first ride . You suggest i premix my petrol aswel as the oil tank topped up to max . premix 30ml of oil to every 5 litres of petrol to be on the safe side . Cheers
I bought your 15.8 oz weight for my '19 xcf450 a couple years; and it absolutely made a positive difference! I also went down a tooth (12 tooth) on my front sprocket, and turned the idle up just a tad, and it is like a tractor now. I can lug it through gnarly stuff better than my cousin's RMX250 2 stroke!
I know this probably isn't the kind of solution you're looking for but the dealer does have a KTM computer that will tell you everything is going on with your motor and your exact RPM
Just did this on my 22' KTM 350 XCF along w a TPS adjustment from .53 to .64 and made a huge difference in eliminating flame outs. Throttle response seems to be more crisp rt off the bottom too. Thanks!
been adding uper cylinder lube since 2000, mainly for the uper cylinder in early days but obviously can hurt the fuel pumps , only had one pump fail since 2012.
So it is acceptable to use the Split kit and that one fuel injector in the block will provide enough lube oil (premix) to the crank shaft and connecting rod bearings at 60:1. Nice and then simply use 60:1 premix just like the bikes before KTM went to TPI but where they were carbureted.
I had this last happen last weekend. 2016 KTM 350Sxf ran perfectly Saturday, on Sunday it turned over but didn't fire. I checked the fuel filter-clean. The fuel connector has a solid connection and gas does not spray out. When I "bump' the starter I do hear the pump go for a second. I also do not get any displayed codes on the EFI light. I have the Quantum complete kit coming( it's something I've been wanting to do anyway) but have not yet installed it. Hopefully that fixes it, though what you said about the ECU makes me nervous. I REALLY don't want to spend $800 for one
On my 2022 KTM 300 XC TPI the top shock bolt needs to be removed to tilt the shock rearward so that the intake rubber from the air filter housing can be fitted back onto the throttle body as the shock spring interferes. This is due to the thickness of your fuel injector block. How did your oil line from the pump to throttle body fit, route? Mine rubs on your fuel injector block? My KTM ran poorly from day 1 and then seized at 7.2 and 7.4 hours. After the 2nd seizure KTM installed a complete new case motor and oil pump. I am now installling your split injector fueling block (right side injector being relocated into your block.
Well if you just have the normal set up, you can't get more than about 1400 rpm with the air screw. If you use the injector relocation block and tpi screw, then you can turn up as high as you want
Because everytime the TPI's start up they run a couple strokes with no lubrication. This is because the fuel injectors are in the transfer ports of the cylinder and only inject fuel, no oil. So it takes more time at start ups for the oil to get from the throttle body, reed cage area and crank area to get up through the transfer ports and into the cylinder. By this time the piston rings have scraped the cylinder wall a few strokes with no lubication. This is why so many of these bikes seized up and there are many lawsuits against KTM in N. America (and around the world). I know 1st hand because my 2022 KTM 300 XC TPI was 100% stock and never ran properly from day one. It was 100% stock and never raced. It seized at 7.2 hours. KTM replaced the cylinder, piston and crankshaft. At 7.4 hours it seized a 2nd time. So this time KTM put a brand new crate motor (motor, clutch, transmission,...) and a new oil injection pump into the bike. Then and only then did it run properly. KTM's head of N. America sales told a bike magazine tester that they cannot tell the public but to get these bikes to run correctly they must get an aftermarket software in an ECU. These bikes are set up to meet European emissions and the motors getting damaged is just an accepted part of business. Finally for 2023 KTM XC are now TBI bikes with premix. Meaning KTM has relocated the fuel injectors to where this video is doing. And the 2023 is back to premix and no oil injection. The injectors on the 2023 XC is now located similar to the fuel injectors on a their 4 stroke bikes. I know if you put a Coober ECU and and an aftermarket head like a S3 head the bike comes alive finally and runs so much smoother and better in all conditions, throttle positions and loads. And relocating 1 or both fuel injectors and going back to premix will make the motor last like the older carbureted bikes do. The oil pumps are know to crap out at any moment also. Thereby seizing the motor. Plus 2 strokes lose vaccum as the throttle is opened and as such they cannot suck in the oil required at high rpms. So much of the injected oil actually just sits in and around the reeds. Take one apart and you will see all the oil runout. This is not good. Hope this helps to explain why the KTM TPI's where a very bad design.
I was riding my ktm 2009 450 exc on the freeway in 6th gear and all of a sudden everything shut off and I couldn’t shift gears . Battery was ok but the bike is not firing anymore! I put a brand new spark plug nothing ! I put new ground cable nothing. !! It’s not fuel injected it’s carb and now I’m pist
My light came on as well. I purchased 2 delete systems, 1 for me and 1 for my son's and I tried his resistor also and the light still came on.....Dave??
I'm sorry you are having that problem. Sounds like it just needs to go back to the dealer, so you can get the run around on what's going on. Sad to say, but these new things are so cheap, it could be a lot of things. Hopefully under Warranty
Hello, great job you done, I'm using this solution and it's great! I have small question, My friend have tsp head + remap ecu, and still he want's to install inj relocation kit to his bike, but we are not sure it is okay. What do you thing ? we have no chance to remap ecu, that means that we have what we have, we just want's to set up inj rel kit, but not sure it is ok. Hope for your answer, thanks!
