The problem with Deborah is that she was paired with Bryant. They are both coolish, uptight, and/or prickly personalities and they didn’t complement each other. That’s why Bryant paired well with Jane and Katie. If Deborah had been paired with a more laidback cohost, I think she would have been more successful in the role. I do think it was time for Jane to move on. I think after someone has been a show like this for 10 years, we get tired of them. I thought Katie was great on the show, but by the mid 2000s, you could see that she was bored and it was time for her to move on.
So true. This is horrid. I lived through this era and I’m even shocked. I think we somehow normalized it until we finally didn’t anymore. Often it meant the difference between putting food on the table or not, to put up with this kind of behavior in our careers. Especially for single moms, my mother put up with so much to keep her job in the early days of Silicon Valley’s bro culture.
I don’t dislike gay people, I don’t deny their right to do whatever they wish in the privacy of their own home. But, I also find the thought of gay sex repulsive. This doesn’t make me a homophobe but I’m sure if gay people knew this was my view, I’d be mercilessly vilified. This set up is along similar lines. I doubt Rex would have cared less what gay people do in their private lives, but to provoke him wasn’t funny, it waa stupid.
