An awesome tribute to two awesome characters saw this on Twitter and was like it's me, I'm the demographic never got into Berserk but this videos killed it
Im pausing just to say that you are 100% correct in that there just isnt enough time in life to sit and study and learn and watch these incredible people who populate the world of pro wrestling. I often feel like a fraud fan since i only got into wrestling as an adult around 2020 or so when i found out about youtube interviews and podcasts. But thanks to people like you and others i may never become an encyclopedia of wrestling but atleast im exposed to people and stories id never hear of otherwise.
Hey, love Survival Tobita and was just researching him earlier this year. Wanted to make a couple of clarifications (not on you, a lot of big sites also have the errors). The second match covered is definitely in Korakuen but it's not NEO, it's another obscure sleaze called EWF that ran February 27th, 2000, probably through everyone pulling their money together. Then the third match covered, with Naoshi Sano competing, is actually the NEO event on August 25th, 1999, as per the ring mat, at an unknown location. Sources are through cross-referencing Cagematch and Chris Harrington's archived Tobita guide.
Great video, very informative. I actually was at the wXw show Ikeda and Ishikawa wrestled. Unfortunately I am only for about a year now into Shoot Style. So I had an idea about their significance but was not very excited to see them. Tbh I find it hard getting into battle arts, espacially since there are so little rules for Shoot Style. I enjoy Rings as of now most ecause closer than the Sambo guys in Rings show their legitamacy while being super entertaining. And Battlearts has too muc drama imo. But on the other hand, when I started watching wrestling I would have never thought to enjoy shoot style at all, so when I run out of UWF and Rings content, I might come back to Battle arts. Btw, wXw has a shoot style tournament once a year as well, and while the style is very mixed (and some contestents are better than others) it tends to go more into the Battle Arts direction esp. in regards to the rules. This years tournament had the best non japanese shootstyle match I ever saw, Patrick Borg vs Matt Makowski, two former MMA fighters, and in not even10 minutes they had a great modern style MMA state of the art match, really worth watching for all Shoot style fans.
Honestly, I'm glad that Michinoku Pro got some love in the top spot, it's the kind of wrestling that I absolutely love and it's why Lucharesue is my personal favourite type of puro, you can keep your Kings Road and Inokiism / Strong Style. The only match I can think of that comes close to the Michinoku Pro six-mans is that insane ROH 6 man tag team match from the Dragon Gate lads. But Michinoku Pro wins out on the basis that they had Gran Naniwa in a crab mask instead of a mere dragon mask (no disrespect to Dragon Kid, it's fucking insane that the dude is still going!)
I had no idea who this dude was, but as someone who loves a bit of comedy in my wrestling, I think it's even better that Tobita plays it completely straight, which just makes it all the better. Also the little arm dance that Ken The Box did with the fans getting super into it had me howling. If you're taking suggestions on who else to feature on "Your New Favourite Wrestler", maybe Chihiro Hashimoto; although I don't know if she's obscure enough to qualify?
0:48 hitting the ropes in time with the strum ... it's chefs kiss. So many little details in this. Passing the crown to Okada at the end... Damn that's good. I really appreciate the way you edit these. Very similar to me I feel (unless im making smth wacky like the Keita MV!).
that Survival Tobita vs. Bauxite Medium match truely is entertainment. This dude reminds me of Kaiju Big Battel, but better for some reason or another...
At my first glance at Slim I thought he was a goof , yet still entertaining . The I saw some stuff later that made he see him in a better light . But now after watching this , I am totally down with this guy ! It has been years since I watched Anarchy back when Rick Michaels and such were there . But I'm gonna check these matches out now . Him and Evans could have made a good breakdancing high flying team in WWE . It seems like that would catch on pretty big up there heh heh .
That was spectacular !!! What a legend . Thanks for this vid . I'm gonna watch it again before I move on to my next vid . I would enjoy you giving this treatment to a bunch of wrestlers like Misawa , Kobashi etc etc... all the top guys from Japan in the 80s and 90s . Then put them in one big compilation . Almost like WWF Piledriver only WAY better lol !!!
Tenryu's career is something that all wrestlers should study, even as he got older and slowed down, he was arguably even more entertaining than he had been as a younger man.
YEAAAAH!!!!! The greatest wrestler of all time without a shadow of a doubt, someone who was promising in the 70s, great in the 80s, and absolutely wonderful in the 90s and beyond Out of all of the very best wrestlers in the world, nobody (maybe aside from Ric Flair) was as consistently great as Tenryu was
In a world where WWE pretends Cody Rhodes is over, the bloodline hasn't gone stale and business is better than ever, in era where every AEW mark defends one of the most boring stars in Ospreay and one of the most over valued in MJF, in a world where every fucking smark podcast is fucking sucking triple H's dick for literally booking like an old man and begging for more! Be Survival Tobida and simply actually entertain instead of boring me to death with a stunt show.
This is what happens, when a perfect song is paired with great visuals. Vader looks intimidating on his own,but this montage with the song makes him seem like an absolute demolishing monster and I love it
Nice video. I got hooked on vety niche japanese promotions, thanks to Tobita P.s. Do you plan to make video on Super Crafter U and his many many gimmicks?
@@basicallytoku9095 Once I become more familiar with them I hopefully will! Right now I’m interested in making a video on someone even more niche if that’s possible
Love these kind of series!! Tobita rocks...also, I love his Match against a swamp monster!! Ps. Ryuma Go or Koichiro Kimura as possible nominees for this series??
@@dnickx very funny that you mention Kimura, he’s one of the guys I’ve been considering for the next episode! Need to see a little more of his stuff outside battlarts and futen but everything I’ve seen from him there is excellent, the Sawa match has a chance of making my top 100 all time.
It might seem like such an insignificant thing, but thank you for differentiating between bumping and selling. It’s really common for fans in recent years to conflate the two as the same thing and call it all selling, which is a pet peeve of mine. I get that it’s dumb to get annoyed at something like that, but there IS a difference, and it’s always weird to me when fans use insider lingo and use it wrong so much that it becomes the new default.
@@CrossfacePanda both are important to consider when you watch a wrestler, there are countless examples of people good at one and not the other but I had to mention both here. Tobita is in that rare tier where the bumps and sells match each other in intensity and emotion.
Honestly my first favorite BIG MAN wrestler. Didn't appreciate him enough before as I only saw him in WWF, but thanks to the internet and a buncha cool suggestions (and learning how big he was, that he'd be referenced in fighting games quite often), nowadays I appreciate Vader way, way more. Great music for one of the GOATs.
