@4:10 Jimmy says that Glen Campbell had 5 vocal octaves. Hard to believe. Isn't 3 octaves more like it? Sure, he could sing falsetto for those high harmonies on those Beach Boy tunes, but.... I do believe there is strong evidence for his voice getting deeper with age. And he is still my favorite singer of all time. What tone!
This is great! I loved watching the water ski shows through out NH when I was younger! I too waterskied but multi-skiers I only got up to two. I wish I had kept it up like the men on Angle Pond. They are amazing still! Thank you for sharing!
I grew up on Angle Pond at the camp ground. My parents camped there for 30 years. Fishing there as a kid is some of my best growing up memories. Someday I’d like to get back out there to do some kayak fishing. Thanks for posting this video!!!
Another great interview with Jimmy Webb. I learn something new every time I hear him give an interview. What an engaging and interesting person. What a nice and decent person.
Little King Crimson for the people at the intro. God Ian McDonald is such a genius. At least his work is famous but he doesn't get the widespread accolade for being a primary writer of it. Rest in power king.
Both Aaron and Ethan are very mediocre compared to Keith, but let’s be honest who really in the rock world is he’s equal not only as a musician but as a composer and performer.
That video was a great tribute. It’s proof of the love you both shared for one another. I have a 7mo old English Creme named Oliver. I hope to share the same fun things you did with Kaiah. Sorry for your loss. Her memory lives on.
I saw Ethan play at trading boundaries (2018?) Followed by Aaron who played an ELP song magnificently. On his way back to his family table Aaron was very kind in talking to me about the music and was an absolute gentleman. It was a privilege to watch them both playing and Keith for certain would be so proud. This was a lovely interview so thank you very much for sharing it. Just to say I first saw ELP in about 1972 and I still play their music and will always do so as it is part of my life.
Great interview! Somebody still needs to write the definitive Heart book. The Ann and Nancy book was good, but just their perspectives. I mentioned it to Martin Popoff (who has written a lot of great rock books) but he said he doesn't have enough interviews to do one. Elliot, I've enjoyed your interviews with Roger Fisher. Interviewing Mike and Steve has really shined a different perspective on the band. Sometimes the guys that were out of the spotlight have more insights, or at least different ones to share.
Ethan has his grandads Keith soul and I was privileged to meet him and his dad Aaron at the Keith Emerson tribute concert in Birmingham in 2017 ..I was lucky that most of the performers were staying at the same hotel I was (also the Jad and Den quintet who I was completely in awe with) ... I wish Ethan all the success in whatever career he chooses and I know he will go far ... he is a very shy and polite lad and has the world (literally) at his fingertips.
I have long contended that "bands" often never get the credit they deserve when their front person becomes more popular than the collective. The original band is on equal footing as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple Mark II, Ozzy era early Sabbath. They are that important and that good. Cheap Trick's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performance highlighted the exact same thing. Bun E. Carlos came out and they did "I Want You to Want Me" and "Dream Police" it sounded like 1979!!! The band that Ann and Nancy used for decades was simply one of the weakest bands I have ever heard. "Crazy On You"...within 20 seconds of it starting at the Rock Hall, instantly showed the music world that THIS band mattered. It was perfection!!!!! The ONLY band I would pay money for anymore would be a fully reunited Heart. But I am not holding my breath!!
Wouldn’t that be awesome if all the members of a band had sons that could carry on a younger version of the same band? Or in this case even grandsons..Big shoes to fill but it would be interesting if it ever came about.
Oh man, Elliot needs to let Jordan finish a sentence. I love the fact that he’s being interviewed but I have to hear his full thought. He gets cut off way too often in this video 2:07
El Mirage was an album of beautiful memorable tunes..I for one do not know why "Mixed Up Guy" was not a monster hit!!it had the right groove, arrangement, production, vocals..I've been loving that tune for going on almost 50 years now.
So what composers do you like to listen to? For me Jimmy is right up there with Billy Joel..David /Bacharach....Lennon/McCartney... Brian Wilson Goffin/King....Mann/Weil Jimmy Buffet.....Holland-Dozier-Holland...Smokey Robinson....Stevie Wonder.....Paul Simon ....."Jim Webb Sings Jim Webb" are just a collection of demos, not at all near the finished product.
