Are you a new FFXIV Player? Anxious? Casual? Or do you have medical concerns or conditions that make it difficult to play at a high level? Or are you just supportive or understanding of players that find themselves in this category and want to help in a friendly and welcoming community? Then this channel is for you!
I've been playing FFXIV since January 2014, and I want to make FFXIV content more accessible to all players!
I have Fibromyalgia, so I understand what it's like to have your body and mind disagree. And my unfortunate ability to press the wrong buttons, or to get out of an AOE too slowly, kept me from playing most of the game due to the anxiety of making a mistake in party content. But I've discovered ways to get past that, and I want to help others do the same! I focus on casual content, and achievements that may take dedication and practice to get - but that anyone can do!
Unfortunately, the companion app has been around for quite a while and it still revolves around the same basic functionality foundation. It is still a paid service that asks for micro transactions even if you have the appropriate in-game currencies and setup. Outside of retainers and inventory you can use the other stuff free via the lodestone. It can be pretty limiting as a companion. Unless they move away from layered real money transactions using the app in any serious capacity feels bad and it has always felt like that.
From what I understand after more playing around with it, because 'quick ventures' and 'exploration ventures' can bring you items that are 'unique', you are unable to have more than one of them pending at one time. For 'gathering/hunting' ventures, because they only ever bring back materials that you can carry an indefinite amount of, you can send them out as often as you want, and the materials simply accrue on the retainer. So you can assign them an exploration venture in game, and then when they get back, finish the venture and mark it as 'pending' and then assign them hunting/gathering ventures until you are able to log in again and process the pending mission. I can only imagine once they have a better system of 'acquiring' unique items, they can fix it so that you can send them off on any venture.
@@gamer_debbie gotcha! thanks for the clarification! i was always interested in getting this app but i wasn’t sure about the ins & outs of it. thanks for the video and the response tho!
The inventory management seems really useful. Alongside the mentions of how Venture management would be a really nice addition to the app, I'd also say that being able to manage the Island Sanctuary from it would be really helpful.
10 retainers? I've had 9 since they've allowed us to get 7 through mogstation, and have had the companion app since it released, I've tried for years to get the 10th retainer and none of the retainer locates have allowed me to hire the 10th one..... I also feel like sending retainers on ventures through the app is a bit of a scam since it requires using the limited daily nuts or paid coins, for someone who only has 2 retainers I feel like it's probably fine, but for heavy crafters with like 6+ it feels like another cash grab from SE....
Seems like most of their effort is put in to milk more money out of the community 😔 Best glams and mounts are on the online store and cost more than the sub, while Dawntrail cost as much as a full game! Pay for inventory space! Companion app and the monthly cost of sub. With DT being mid and lazy I can't help but feel their greed. This game is expensive AF and I dare people to go on the mpg station and check how much they have spent on it
Let's agree to disagree. A $12 monthly sub feels very competitive, as is the price of the game (which goes on sale several times a year for up to 60% off). FFXIV is arguably in the top 3 of current MMOs, and does not offer any Pay to Win items or shady online store pop-ups in game. Sure, I've spent a lot of money on it in the 10 years I've been playing, but that is instead of purchasing other games at release that would have been $90+ CAD. For 10 years, and over 7000 hours played, I don't feel like I've been taken advantage of. If you would like examples of poorly managed, greedy and lazy MMOs, check out @JoshStrifeHayes and his collection of over 80 of the worst here on RU-vid.
@@gamer_debbie Thanks I'll give it a look but I would call the job/story skips the definition of pay to win. You can pay to fully get powerful on any job with enough money and it gives lots of gil. If you did this at the start of the game...holy... you would be set till Dawntrail. Paying for power that other people should have to grind 100s of hours for I'm sure is the definition of pay to win! Yes lets agree to disagree. Also Personally I think the Fanta system is unnecessary and greedy, letting people customise their character they know is a good market. There are so many "Fanta" addicts because this game is central around customisation. Only reason they don't allow it to be free is because they know people will need them for the reason they are playing it (I'm going to say most people) Thanks for listening to my ted talk 🤣
One of the best things about ff14 is not needing mods. There are some quality of life ones that i would like to see them just add to the game. Hopefully we will see it.
I think they are very much taking mods into consideration when looking at adding quality of life upgrades to the game. There have been a few that we have seen added. This is big for console players who otherwise wouldn't have any of that utility. But you're absolutely right!💜 I used at least a dozen mods for WoW and it's good to be out of that!
Hrmm... this is a hard one! I can't have gluten, so delivery food is almost exclusively something I can't eat. But I tell you, if I could get unlimited drink delivery I'd always have a bubble tea and/or caramel iced coffee in my hands! 💜
Boss fates that you wait hours for will just get insta pulled. The reason is that the zone is likely full already and you are risking going linkdead in an unstable zone that you can’t get back to if you crash. So game theory says just pull it and it only needs one person to adhere to that. So just expect it in week one or two
I haven't had any issues with unstable zones on Dynamis at all, but unfortunately I can't travel anywhere else because I live here... Has it been an issue on other DCs?
Tbh the companion app is still terrible, improved, yes, but compared to other companion apps such as wow armory app(before it was discontinued), its extremely restricted. I personally dont understand why the paid version still restricts you with kupo nuts. If i am paying a subscription for a service, i shouldn't have to pay every time I use the service as well. Idk just feels like it could be a really great tool but too many arbitrary limitations.
I'm a casual gamer by choice. In the past I've been a little bit more hardcore and decided it's just not good for me. I don't even do extremes and don't even want to unlock savage cause it clutters up my duty finder list. I stick to duty finder and lots of solo play. I don't think dawntrail is too hard and I don't think they even made it harder. As a White Mage I get to use my healing abilities for once, but that's usually true at the start of an expansion. I just think every expansion people forget what it's like to have low gear levels and new mechanics. The Dead Ends was a hard dungeon too. However I do feel like the community is changing and becoming more jaded. I'm hearing a lot more about how something needs to be done about "bad" players and I don't like it.
You make a really good point. 💜 People need to understand that we are running all content now at essentially min ilevel, and that will make it more difficult until the gear starts getting better towards the end of the expansion. But people using it as an excuse to call out others for playing badly isn't right. As much as we enjoy playing it, it's just a game, and people have way more going on in their lives than FFXIV. Compassion first is always the right answer.
Okay, this. 💜 There are a bunch of cutscenes I've been meaning to rewatch for some time but I never think of it when I'm in my glamour dresser... I mean inn room. >.>
I hope we can revive Disneyland (anti-spoiler code). That zone was deep feels for me, too, BTW. Loved DT (especially the last 3rd)! My big letdown was party chat in instances. I came from WoW and it was way too familiar. To the extent that I made a new character to not have to see the DT party chat in Roulettes. Im so happy to have stumbled into this channel! The positivity is refreshing.
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to share! 💜 I think the end of the game is deeply moving for anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one or pet. There's never enough time to say goodbye, even if you get the opportunity, and letting go is painful. I'm really sorry you were exposed to spoilers in party chat. It's very much discouraged in this game because you can't be realistically expected to turn off party chat in case something goes wrong and the group needs to communicate.
I'm sorry for the confusion! 💜You can send them out and pay 'kupo nuts' to do it instead of venture. You get the kupo nuts for free for logging into the app, but can also purchase them. I hope this helps!
@@gamer_debbie Ah I see! Is it like a kupo nut an hour? I was thinking of getting the companion app but I would be sending out 4 ventures every 40 minutes so I thought maybe it wouldnt be worth it then.
@@naotohex kupo nuts are daily. It's useless if you're actually wanting to use this for venture management. Quick math, if you have 9 retainers, it will take you 5 days to get enough kupo nuts to send them on ONE quick venture. You can't select any other venture types. It's $5 a month, so the plus side is you're basically paying the $2 to get an extra retainer and getting $3 dollars worth of additional features.
The cord is really quite long! I have it going around my desk and under a bunch of cables so I don't *really* want to pull it out right now to check, but it's around 4'. It can easily be positioned anywhere on my desk. I hope this helps! 💜
As a computer guy that has a weird phone setup to be able to remote into the game on my PC a long time ago because I didn't want to pay for managing retainers... You got me with the inventory management convenience with the duplicates. I'll be downloading it again just for that major convenience in menuing less than touch screen via remote PC.
I mean, I'm intrigued. >.> I use my Asus ROG to get into game remotely when I need to do something retainer wise or crafting or such - but a phone? I mean, kudos to you! I'm glad I could assist! 💜
@@gamer_debbie yeah I have a raspberry Pi to wake up my computer from outside my lan from my phone via a very specific set of "knocks" on closed ports in a specific order. So I never open up my ports to attackers while my PC is off And I shut down my computer remoting via Moonlight ports into the game so they're closed again afterwards. So I crafted during doctors appointments in the waiting room I even healed O11N via touch screen during lunch at work one time NEVER AGAIN. I swore off battle content on phone without a PS4 controller.
As much as people have been dissatisfied with the Gong Cha collab, it's actually one of the few collabs that has even been available over here in Australia. We didn't get the KFC collab (even though they're definitely over here) and we didn't get the last chocolate one they had (I believe which had the chocorpokur mount before they did this recent Twitch thing?) because that brand of chocolate isn't even sold here. Even with this event, we didn't even HAVE the keychain component of it! I guess I'm glad we got to participate _at all_ this time so I don't think it's such a big deal that folks in NA aren't all getting in on the action this time. I do feel bad to EU though, they also seem to be left out of collabs a lot.
I'm sorry, Austraila. 💜 As a Canadian, I feel equally excluded from a lot of events because we're not big enough for companies to bother. We couldn't do the Butterfingers chocolate event either, or the Mt Dew one. Despite the fact that we had BOTH of those things in our country, we weren't part of it. I'd happily share a couple sympathy bubble teas with someone in the EU and hope that they do more universal events in the future!
Oh, that's really weird! I'm sorry!💜 If your character IS on their homeworld, there's a way to sync data between the app and the sever, and perhaps you should give that a try. Just go to the main menu (the three bars on the top right) and then go to 'App Settings' and then 'Sync Character Data' and 'Sync App Data' and hopefully this fixes the problem!
What the app also can do is that you can marketboard prices while you are logged in. No need to teleport to a mb just to check a price of something. I've had the app since day 1 and I'm really pleased what they did with the last update. What I now want to be added most in the app is unlimited kupo-nuts or the removal of them for premium users. 10 nuts is not enough to keep 10 retainers busy.
Thank you for sharing! 💜 And I think you're right - 10 is far too few for someone who is paying a subscription anyway. If not unlimited, at least 25-50 would be more appropriate. I mean, if I'm PAYING for 10 retainers, I should be able to keep all 10 of them moving. 🤪
I've had the app, but didn't know it had a paid version! it was little more than a novelty. All the features you listed definitely convinced me to add it to my ballooning monthly sub cost. Thanks!
Nyaa good idea~ would it be possible to get timestamps for the main topics? 🥺 cause I’m horrible and adhd ridden and like to watch videos in pieces, even those in random orders But only of others agree too About the promo mount - if you wanna be a Swine Sovereign it’s a must have 😤
Good idea!💜 It would take me a bit of time after the fact to put timestamps in, but I think a lot of people appreciate them! And... >.> Yes, I imagine it would be quite impossible to be Swine Sovereign without a kingly mount!
I've had the Companion App for over a year, and the fact that we couldn't assign ventures to retainers from the app. I only bought it for the retainer and saddle bag. But now we can actually assign retainers from the app, I'm about to fire it up again. Thanks for the video! I most likely wouldn't have noticed if you didn't make this.
Was excited to be able to stock up on some mats while at work but half of my retainers dont work. One says its not equipped with a main hand weapon, the other that its ilvl is too low for the venture. Which is extra odd when the "unequipped" one had already done the venture and I was just trying to conplete it, and the 'low ilvl' one had just conpleted that same venture 5 min before 😅 Back in the bin you go app, I had such high hopes 😢
Is the buying tax only 3% in app vs the 5% tax ingame? I don't understand the fee notice. If the tax is lower, it might be better to use app nuts when buying million dollar mounts, items, etc. Can someone confirm?
I just listed an item on the app from my Old Sharlayan retainer and it said I would not be charged any tax on this sale. When I tried to buy something, it said the rate for purchases made on the app is 3%. So yes, can confirm! 💜
I still don't understand why duty support and trust both exist... and why trust is locked behind the end of the expansion... why can't we just level the trust NPCs as we go through the story?
I understand your confusion! 💜They are two different systems that kinda overlap a bit. Duty support is a group of NPCs you can use to clear content. Trusts are NPC Avatars with their own quirks and personality that you can level up and equip glams to. Trusts don't unlock until the end of the expansion because they aren't meant to act as Duty Support... Which is good, because they aren't as reliable as Duty Support NPCs. But it would be really convenient if we could level them up at the same time we did! I always just assume that I'll level up a couple alt jobs with Trusts after I'm done the story. I hope this helps!
@@gamer_debbie so the right click for me enables auto attack and doesn't bring up a menu. idk what the keybind is called but im assuming i changed it because i click and drag to move the camera. so i was likely getting menus pop up all the time when just trying to look around and changed it.
Have to say, coming home from work and going into the raid after dinner, going "semi" blind, I was spoiled a little with the first one, I really enjoyed both the story and mechanics.
Thank you so much for this guide! I've used a bunch of your guides and they're always the right amount of "doesn't need to be perfect, just trying to die less" information. I will say though, for mechanics where you're pointing out a specific visual like boss poses or specific markers, it would be helpful to freeze frame the video for a second or two for clarity. In this guide I had to rewatch the bit about the third boss's sword attacks a bunch of times to make sure I understood which poses you meant by "this one".
Thank you! And thank you so much for the feedback. 💜I'm always trying to improve and it helps. I'll definitely try to use that more in the future to make things clearer.
App is still worthless because of the kupo nuts system. Until they remove that I have no reason to use that. WoW has let you list unlimited auctions for free on your phone since around Pandaria (although I don't know if they still have that function), there is no reason at all that it should cost me 50 cents per MB listing to list shit on the app
