These are my go to sardines. I LOVE the taste of sardines, Thank GOODness! When I was growing up in the 50s & 60s, my father would pick up cans of sardines & mackerels on a regular basis in order to stretch our budget, as these food items were dirt cheap in those days. Consequently, sardines have always been a healthy comfort food for me 👌
You keep saying this has "monosaturated fat", but you're wrong on both fronts , it's polyunsaturated fat. The only part you got right was "fat." 😂 Anyway I know this is an old video, sorry. But it was driving me crazy.
These things are damned fine. A lot of people eat them on crackers, but I think these are really good on a sandwich, made from white buttered bread, or a while bread roll/hamburger bun. The Royal Navy ran on these things! Suggested viewing, an old movie named "The Yangtse Incidient", where they're eating "Herrings In" [tomato sauce] throughout the film, while their warship is under siege. The ultimate power of DEENZ.
The only cons about sardines is that eating them too many times a week can raise the production of uric acid so for those more prone and susceptible to kidney stones, try to limit them to about a few times a week. Nonetheless sardines are great!
I don't know if it is true or not but I heard the fish are firmer due to the cooking process was done outside the can. Those cook inside the can tend to be softer.
Just bought a four pack of K O Extra Virgin Oil sardines and a few packs of King Oscars premium. So far King Oscar in Extra Virgin has been my favorite
I've read that you have to flip your sardine cans over after some time, like half a year, to keep the oil and spices spread evenly. Is that your point?
I want to try sardines for the first time. Which ones would you recommend? I think I need to try the very best first, so I don't get a bad first impression. I don't want scales, or heads of fins. In the $3 to $5 range.
As a fellow newbie, take my advice. Start with filets. Meat only. Nothing but pleasure so far. The skin and bones version, tale included..... My mistake as my introductory can of sardines. Ugh. 😩.
All of the King Oscar sardines tend to be tender, I like to think, rather than mushy. The Royal Selection sardines are packed like the Polar Brislings, and are really exceptional.
I agree. Polar tastes good, but I don't like how firm and dry it is, it reminds me of overcooked chicken. Maybe that could be an acquired texture, but for me I associate it with overcooked meat and it comes across to me as poorly cooked. when i eat tender chicken i don't think of it as mushy so i don't think of these as mushy either.
King Oscar bristling sardines are a different species called sprats. They are smaller, and typically softer than the larger sardines. KO is a high quality sardine that can be found in any grocery store. I love them.
