Man, what a great ride. Thanks very much for sharing!! If you ask me, it doesn’t get any more “mainline steam” than this. Locomotive working at or near full capacity, at speed, doing a real job. Would love to see this railway in person someday, Cheers to the folks maintaining this ROW and beautiful equipment! 🔥
For those who don't know, the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway (RH&DR) is, without doubt, the best day out in Kent if not the south of England. Kids, grandparents, hairy bikers, couples & all in between. Get on the platform at Hythe & take the long journey to the "other worldly" Dungeness (where this train didn't stop.) Stop off at Dymchurch or St.Mary's for a beach day, see the exhibition & depot at New Romney, and tea & cakes in the shadow of the 2 ex-nuclear power stations at Dungeness. It's fantastic.
I did this trip many moons ago, all the way there to start with, then stopping off at each station coming back. Nice walk to the sea side at one point. Nice train museum to go to too. Highly recommended
Lol, do my ears deceive me? Was that a fart in the beginning of the video? Lmao 🤣 But I still watch this video over and over. You guys should make another video in the same train if possible. Thanks for the vid and the gag at the beginning lol.
i just realised 2025 is not only the Bicentenary of the Stockton and Darlington, but the Centenaries of Green Godess, Northern Chief, and Southern Maid
Can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched this video over the years. Thanks so much for the Cab view!! As a 7.5” guy here in the USA, it’s been a dream to come visit you all someday. I cannot even begin to comprehend the track work necessary for these speeds. Well done, gentlemen!!
Those radios sound very unpleasant. Are they digital? They sound very robotic/difficult to discern. Also, what is going on at 20:34? Why is the loco following a train so closely - shouldn't it be waiting in a different section?
What a fascinating frame! Am I right in thinking that the lift-handles at the front serve the same purpose as the catch handles at the top of most frames, and that the single blue lever is a locking lever that locks all points in position unless reversed? (And presumably that then requires all signals to be held at danger)?
Yes that is right. I belive it is the original frame back from the early days. The blue lever is the facing point lock and yes you cannot have a signal lever out of the frame if you want to use the FPL.
Nope the previous days driver deals with the front end of the loco so sweeping the smokebox and tubing the loco and a general cleaning down the loco and running gear.
The original shed was getting unsafe so was knocked down. Currently locos are stored in the various other sheds at New Romney while work on the newer loco shed extension is done. The loco are vacuum brakes but looks like they use an air powered blower to assist steam raising like in smaller scale live steam.
I am 80 years old and a railroad Widow. My Husband worked many different jobs out of the Sparks Nevada yard Union Pacific Railroad. Almost 40 years service. He loved railroading and I am very proud of my Railroad man. Love these videos.
With me, I’ve always had an attachment with black prince for the RH&DR, It sure is a beautiful locomotive. It might be the youngest steam engine there but it is an amazing engine to see run.
