hi it’s 2024 and idk if you’ll even see this but someone made a good point once and it was that NF writes these kinds of hooks/chorus for the fans specifically to be sung/yelled at his concerts imagine “i’ll just be the outcast” being sung/yelled by everyone in the crowd at one of his concerts just the power and energy of that mixed with a giant group of people who might feel/have felt the same as NF would be a sight to see.
When he talks about “Johnny” he is referring to The Shining! Just like he did with Pennywise in his song “Why”. Pennywise fed off the fear within his victims…. Anyhoooo…. Back to this song, Johnny in The Shining, moved his family into a mansion which was actually a hotel. It eventually drove him crazy & You could kind of interpret it like Amityville but not so gruesome. 😅
In my honest opinion I feel like NF hasn’t topped Returns lyrically and word play wise ever. Even with his new music. This is his best work imo His new stuff is still fire even if it doesn’t stand to this

NF is my favorite artist of all time. Some rappers are great, but never hit that point of going beyond music and producing actual art. This might be my favorite song of his from an artistic point of view. Personification of his emotions, the albums creating a storyline, the Easter eggs, and tie-ins of visuals of his music videos....he astounds me. As far you say about the culture, I think you are right. And f*** the culture. I won't say that he is my favorite rapper. He is my favorite artist, that is a way higher honor for me to bestow to him. Art exists across so many genres, and mediums with countless artists to identify with. He is real music for me. He was actual catalyst and stepping stone into changing my life for the better. I first heard "The search" on the day it dropped. The next weekend, I went and bought all his CD's. I tend to think very similar to Nate and was in quite a dark place suffering from chronic depression for years. The day I heard "Change" I started praying to God regularly. One day sometime later I asked him to help relieve me of that unshakable chronic depression. He answered my prayers, and I found Christ. I am so grateful that Nate was put in my path. I may never be able to thank him for that, but I believe that's why God chose him. (As he asked so many times himself) I pray more people have NF be a positive stepping stone in their lives. Actually A$AP is one of his role models, and on that line he added "Six shots got me feeling like 2pac" A lyrics from A$AP song And the line after that is not abt A$AP, it's just a playwords he made to diss rappers who always use lines like "I got my mf beat, my mf flow, my mf ryhme" and all that
