The first ayreon song i heard was "Star child" and the first album was universal migrator. I didnt discover the human equation until after the electric castle, and it took some time for me to grow to like it and i think it is on par with Electric Castle.
@@RhymeSignatures Scott's got me booked on the Sunday live show in between Annie Haslam, Neal Morse, and Graham Gouldman. I am not intimidated, overwhelmed, or incapable of believing this is real life.
Favorite Albums September 2024 A Swarm of the Sun- "An Empire" Alexis Ffrench- "Classical Soul Vol. 1" Billy Strings- "Highway Prayers" Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors- "Strangers No More, Vol. 2" Erland Cooper- "Carve the Runes Then Be Content With Silence" Gareth Coker- "Ori and the Will of the Wisps - The Piano Collections" Leif Vollebekk- "Revelation" Max Richter- "In A Landscape" MJ Lenderman- "Manning Fireworks" Missy Higgins- "The Second Act" My favs from your picks- David Gilmour (I wish it was more, too...but I'll take anything from my favorite guitarist!), Jordan Rudess, Together to the Stars, And Wintersun! Even though I agree with many of your points, I still loved the album.
The whole VC seems like a cash grab from boomers and older Gen X. 100 dollar anti static plastic guns. 900 dollars for a vacuum in a box. 2000 dollars for some plastic tube with some transducers in it. It is a joke. I love records but I can't stand the new market and QC. Also to sound a little conspiratorial I think the music industry wants to kill all forms a physical media. They have invested so much in you renting your music and paying artist crap.
I am too god damned busy that I miss Oceans of Slumber release and Nightwish. Well, I guess I will squeeze them in around the Leprous concert. For the record Oceans of Slumber's self titled 2020 release was my fav that year and stated my journey into harsher lyrics. I have listened to the Gilmore album a lot, its so relaxing. I get those Floyd notes that I wish could have been productive for the past 20 years. In a two week span we got solid new music from Jon Anderson and David Gilmore...much better than the pop crap that the computers kick out.
Lots of good stuff this month. I love Nightwish but have yet to listen to Yesterwynde. I loved their previous album Human II Nature. And well said about how Oceans of Slumber give back to you what you give to it. Most of their albums are ones that you have to put in the time to listen to. As the saying goes, their albums are growers not show-ers.
If you want something different, try this: Its Body Count's cover of Comfortably Numb with David Gilmour: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pl8zhYA0BHU.html
I love it when you review a new album /or new band thats my favorite genre which is progressive death metal with some cleans mixed in as that gets me super excited to listen to like the new Obsidian tide album you reviewed a while back as it looked like almost everyone has slept on that amazing album and band i look forward to your upcoming album reviews Jeff from H TOWN
These are always my favourite albums to review!! I love all kinds of music, but prog death is definitely my go-to, and this is one of the best ones! 🤟🤟
Another great review! I got to listen to this album almost a year ago and I'm so happy it's finally come to life and being received so well! So when are we getting an Iainfest, the best prog death fest in the UK? 11:25 the way you say "anything" (and "everything" shortly after) really reminds me of Reyla from The Dragon Prince 😆
Sounds good. Another solid Opeth-like band that released an album this year under the radar is Piah Mater, with Under the Shadow of a Foreign Sun. Worth checking out.
With that Opeth news that I didn't know of until you mentioned, this may take its place once i listen to it tomorrow, considering that album is firmly past my beginning of listening to Christmas music. I feel I'm going to really enjoy this once I listen to it, considering your opinions. I've been longing for something similar to Blackwater Park (track) that doesn't get boring to me. This might top PowerNerd as my album of the year.
@RhymeSignatures Nice. I didn't even know the Opeth news. I guess I'll see it in 2025. I probably contributed 50 views to the title track single alone. Not the music video, however.
IQ hooked me with Dark matter album and 24 minute epic track Harvest of Souls. I still find it hard to dig into their earlier double disk albums, but Dark matter works for me. I also had some success listens with Frequency and The road of bones. Give Dark matter a try.
These are probably the most beautiful compliments you could give to this album. A huge thank you for this review, it's fantastic and truly touches our hearts. It's really incredible to feel all this excitement! It gives so much meaning to all the hard work put in. Thank you a thousand times! A quick word about the CDs: I hope that at some point we'll be able to afford to print some CDs. In any case, we'll reconsider the idea! Cheers man!
suburbia feels sm fuller and fun!1!11!1 i love how the piano goes from one ear to another and i love the multiple good mornings stacked on top of each other and the vocals are much more hearable and the insturuments are soooo much more amazing :33 also i agree on that that the added 2018 songs feel like off or not as special i rlly love this review!1!1!1!!!1!1
TIL there are people who hates "Wither". Anyway, this is a great and fun review/list! DT is so rich that these are always a surprise. But this is easily one of the best, most eloquent, thought out, well spoken and also intimist I've seen so far. Bravo, man.
Very good! Papangu is very incredible, this album is one of the best this year. Their first album is fantastic too, it doesn't have that jazz feel but it's very original. When you can, listen to the album Baleia Explode by the band Tela Azzu. Band from the same state as Papangu here in Brazil. Hugs!
Thank you so much for your recommendations. I feel that since i discovered your channel i have a lot of new exciting music to listen to, and almost all albums you recommend I love. So thank you so mucho, im so glad I discovered your channel 😊😊
That warms my heart to hear things like this! You're glad you found me? I'm glad I reached you! I hope I can continue to bring you loads of great bands and incredible music 🥰
And thank you so much for reaching out and trusting your work with me, Oz It's appreciated so much, and I cannot WAIT for everyone to hear what you've been cooking!!
I guess the most valuable one in my modest vinyl collection might be the hand numbered and signed by all band members copy of "Koloss" by the mighty Meshuggah. Bought it at a show back in 2013. I am pretty sure it was the last copy they had left at the merch stand. There was a light bend on the sleeve so I had a deal too ;)
Heads up that the YT algorithm works perfectly when you post. Looks like its only been 10 min since this vid dropped & it appeared immediately on my to-watch dashboard. Great review and thanks again for another one to add to my listen-rotation.
It's interesting, I consider AVO as by far their best album. I think the first one is also excellent. So my ranking would be AVO The Dark Third Coming Up to Consciousness EUPNEA Above Cirrus Why I love AVO the most is because it's live absolutely excellent and is so unique in style that there is nothing comparable out there (or at least I haven't found anything)
You and I remember The Firm very differently! My paraphrase of Clint Barton just signifies that I am old and recall them being a band partly comprised of Jimmy Page and Paul Rodgers, so... Otherwise, you know music worthy of hate that is unfamiliar to me (except Love Shack - and I fully agree, though I could easily come up with 10 or more that I hate more), which is something for which I should likely be grateful. I'll mention my girlfriend flies into a murderous rage over "What's Up?" by 4 Non Blondes, and who can blame her, really.
This is plain contemporary capitalist greed encouraged by the populist movement of Trump, Musk, Bezos and such - maximize profit at all cost. I'm an indie musician and I know very well how much it costs to manufacture vinyl records. The most outrageous approach is for re-release of existing albums - there is no production cost for the music itself - nothing, and hence, all these new releases should be cheaper than a brand new album. Popular albums that are pressed in larger quantities should not cost more than $10 to $12 a piece (for a single LP), and that rate is for September 2024 - more new record presses are being added to the market every year now - so these rates should go even lower, and the corporations can still make a decent profit margin, but no, of course, if there are stupid people that are willing to pay these outrageous rates, the corporations can go ahead and sell records for the equivalent of gold or diamonds per unit. Completely insane.
I feel like I’ve been clickbaited by your thumbnail here and it’s the worst kind of Clickbait as it actually made me feel bad about myself clicked on this with the specific intention of giving you grief for ‘flexing ‘ then when you said ‘this isn’t a flex ‘ that increased that intent …. Then you started talking and it turns out you really wasn’t flexing and you seemed quite pleasant and genuine and I stayed and watched the whole video…. You sir have ruined my plans with your interesting and enjoyable content. Harrumph 😑
Incredible album, with various traditional musical elements from Brazil, which unfortunately tend to be overlooked by the rock community. It's even strange that I have trouble recalling examples to suggest, especially within the progressive genre. Anyway, this blend can be seen in bands like Trem do Futuro, A Barca do Sol, and El Efecto, but definitely not as heavy as Papangu.
So stoked about your review! Keyboardist and singer Rodolfo here. Yes! We're very into the weird and wonderful hahaha. The "Cangaço" movement in Brazil's Northeast (where we're from) is akin to the American "Wild West", but with its political significance much more pronounced, and the Robin Hood aspect of outlaws probably way more noticeable too. The wiki page on Lampião and the Cangaço in English is alright and can give you great insight on the lyrics and the history. I strongly recommend you get one of the vinyl copies not only because it help us, but because the cover art is a real-size print of the original woodcut (xilogravura, check it out) art by Eduardo Ver. It was created not only in the style of traditional art from the time, but in the same technique which was widely popular to tell stories in short, portable, zine-like publications. @ReposeRecords still has the very limited Galaxy version. Check it out! Thanks for the beautiful and honest review. Cheers,
Oh I ordered the ltd edition of 100 vinyl about 5 minutes after I finished editing this video haha!! I'll definitely do some more reading into the background! Thank you SO much for the comment, I always love hearing directly from the members of the band ❤️❤️❤️
Holoceno was already a beautiful album, but they've managed to up their game in every possible way. Lampião Rei is more adventurous, proggy, symphonic, all over the place and yet so cohesive. Maybe a little bit of the strangeness you felt throughout the record is due to the major northeastern Brazilian music elements incorporated flawlessly through the entire work, but, being Brazilian myself, it only makes the experience even more impressive. What an achievement by a band that I already deemed as promising, now establishing themselves as a full-on prog phenomenon with this second album! Great review, Iain!
Thank you!! Yeah, I haven't heard much traditional Brazilian instrumentation before, but man, what an ambassador this album is! Easily one of 2024 biggest and best surprises for me ❤️❤️
This was such a fun time! I know it isn't pulling the usual numbers, but I 100% would watch more. I think I might have to make my own version of this :D
This was a great video. My dad has this gold box Beatles vinyl collection which was issued in Australia which has a median price of $650 or £332. So I will also be 'rescuing' this from his collection one day.
Love Vaxis II making a cheeky appearance in the background! Were you a fan of in the incredible Oceansize at all? Frames and Efflorescence are life changing albums.
I’m sorry I thought Amish people don’t believe in electricity using modern technology or using social media do video reviews of prog alblums. When did they evolve? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
