l really like and appreciate how you are sharing your diagnostic dramas . Might be a bit boring for some but really interesting and helpful for the rest of us ev nerds. More helpful than you realise . As to those questioning your choice of MG, l think it gets more valid as you go along. lntegrating all the other MG components is a great idea and its the cheaper way in for a first timer. Maybe the next 928 conversion might be Tesla based but considering what you have learned with this one l think the experience is priceless . Also it is proving what a wonderful choice the MG running gear will be for many other cars . Many others will benefit from your efforts for sure.
Such a great video. Learnt heaps about these cars and the BMW engine variants that are available. Lots of useful info from Adam who was happy to share his knowledge. As someone who is trying to research the purchase of a weekend 'drive car', the Incarnation vids are invaluable. Great job as usual Stuart.
Porsche are continuing to sell the older ICE Macan model in parallel with the new EV Macan (in some markets but not Australia) and you can be sure that if the EV does not sell they quickly develop a new ICE Macan model. Porsche is taking a very cautious considered approach to EV.
PORSSSH!? Come on Stuey. LOL FYI - there is a custom relay that plugs into the wiper relay slot that allows you to set the wiper timer interval by just pulling/holding the wiper stalk. It is a VW part if i recall correctly. In case you were planning on eliminating the original potentiometer switch located under the original pod. .
My dad made a nice billycart for my brothers and for me. It had a proper steering wheel and with a rope pulley system. About 20 turns lock to lock which wasn't a great idea. Drove like a Chevy Impala. And the brakes didn't work. Seemed like a good idea at the time. But wasn't.
I think you'll want to seal up the shifter hole in the tunnel, as it can be a source of road exhaust (though probably most of that is coming from the 928's engine rather than other traffic). Every episode of this series is great and gives me confidence in taking chances in my own projects
G'day from Norfolk UK. I have been a keen follower of this 928 project and certainly look forward to each episode. Your test equipment and the wiring diagrams are 2 items without which you could not work. Were you able to source the wiring and technical data from the manufacturer? The dash layout you have achieved is excellent. Regards, Roy.
Yeah without those manuals I would have no chance. Originally shared by the EV conversion guys here and overseas who've spent time reverse-engineering the MG ZS EV. Funnily enough, just made contact with a very helpful guy at MG Australia who provided more PDFs for me. Stuff that would have saved me a lot of time early on. He's helping fix our HV contactor issue. Fingers crossed.
I have MG ZS EV (2021) and those phantom HV battery shutdowns can occasionally happen like, for example, if you turn off the car then immediately, for any reason, try to turn it on again and it can be a bugger to get it to clear the error symbol. Something that, for me, seems to fix that problem is to press on the brake pedal extra firmly. Anyway certainly enjoying your series and have subbed.
I watched dozens of review videos for this car. So many of them spend half the video carrying on about launch control or redoing the 0-100kmh time or going on and on about the exhaust. One clown even made a huge deal about how many N badges there are and proceeded to count them. Your review stands head and shoulders above them all and was pivotal in my decision to order an i30n DCT and take delivery in May this year. When my friends & family who hadn't heard of the i30n asked me, a lifelong Holden/Ford man, why I bought it this is the video I direct them to watch. Without exception they get back to me blown away that Hyundai could produce such a great performance car. Thanks for your great work.
Great to see another episode, Stu. How visible are those custom warning lights behind the steering wheel/indicator stalks? They look pretty obscured to me.
The patience of a saint! I like the blend of MG and Porsche in the dash - I think you're going the correct way about it, by integrating the MG electronics and controls into the 928 interior.
It has both. The pot only used for determining regen amount and stability control functions whilst driving I believe. Currently set at rest position to prevent "out of range" DTC code. Switch used for other functions like brake lights, start up and shutdown processes, P park enable. And yes, probably part of HV enable process.
Hey Stu, sorry to see that you’ve had issues, but good on you for going back to basics with troubleshooting skills. I like the simple solution for the speedo. I still think that the ideal place for the charging socket is behind the number plate. Plenty of room, easy to get at and invisible. Re the handbrake, did you see if the rear calipers on your model S could work in place of the MG handbrake? Older model S have a separate handbrake caliper that may do the trick.
I also forgot to mention that the rear brake callipers are pretty simple. Two wires. Connected to 12v one way tightens, reverse polarity loosens. And I assume they use current detection to know when they are fully engaged/retracted.
It’s ok if people want to assume it’s real when observing just so long as you’re honest when asked or if you go to sell, no different than any other replica. Same goes for up-badged muscle cars (SS, R/T etc)
Good review. Great how to go straight to the driving experience without all the guff - like we all know it’s got 4 seats and a steering wheel! How it drives is why I’m watching. Pickup next week. It confirms I made the right choice.
I understand that Citroen is no longer going to send large cars to the United States opting instead to do things like the what is it called the Ami. I think that's a big mistake considering the retail market for used in vintage citron's is so huge Citron never had good dealerships here we're always the most honest incompetent of dealers. I'm in love with these cars when is the man in my early twenties I used to get picked up by an owner who would drive down my pothole fill the streets in a good even feel the bumps my friends used to call this the living room on wheels. If you have an opportunity to buy do it. I think there may be a couple of good Citron mechanics in the United States the company was never supportive being the arrogant French snobs they tend to be.
Thank you for your review, after 6 years with my 05 Porsche Boxster I have modernised and changed to 2018 i30N. Being in my late 60'S my love for owning something that is not built for the masses still burns strong as it did when I was 18. Your review helped make up my mind. Had a trouble free run with the Porsche and it was a daily driver and getting up in klms plus wife was having trouble getting down into it. So happy with the i30n.
Had the pleasure to drive the Italia along with Lamborghini LP570 and Jaguar XK RS in Las Vegas. It was an experience I will never forget, the 458 was my favourite on the day, the Jaguar scared the hell outa me.
My all time favourite car is BMW, the design, looks. Sounds so impressive n amazing, even though I cannot have n effort, but Always love n likes in every moves in BMW ❤❤❤
You will still have brakes in the case of a hydraulic system failure. There is a switch you can flip that allows you to use the "hand brake" pedal as a regular brake pedal. It will actuate the front brakes only mind you. Oh, and without a doubt, one of the most beautiful cars ever made.
I have one...great car but while it's fast, I'm not inspired above 80 mph and it feels a bit unstable over bad roads. Maybe the regen hurts high speed performance by unsettling the car. Agree about the one pedal driving. While it's great in traffic and city commutes, I wish there was a button or paddle to toggle it on the go without diving into the center console for when I'm on the highway and would rather turn it off. That said, coasting with this car is a bit unnerving as it has no braking and you will coast much further than with a gas car. Last point: I completely agree that after 4 days of driving, I realize I would prefer the single motor but fully optioned out.
