What is strange to me is the last several murder trials I've watched had sentencing the same day, two of them without a separate evidentiary hearing. Where I'm from, attorneys have cases like this knowing precisely that the majority of their work will focus on mitigating factors during the punishment phase. Tougher job in Tennessee it seems.
I believe it was done this specific way since the judge selected the lesser punishment based on her three choices allowed by law. However, the law allows her more flexibility with the remaining convictions, so a sentencing hearing is appropriate. Thanks for your insight!
According to the Tennessean, a sentencing law passed in 1995 requires people serving a life sentence to serve at least 51 years behind bars and prohibits them from shaving additional time off their sentence. Thanks for writing!

If you're an attorney and this is your channel why don't you report to judge about the defenses clients flipping off cameras and throwing signs and biting and showing their teeth to the camera. If we are being transparent !! that should be reported. This judge has shown bias. She's got two teachers pets Mr shardt and Mr Steele. I'm tired of watching another attorney laugh and make a mockery sitting in the back of the courtroom it's ridiculous he looks unprofessional someone needs to say something because the judge apparently can't control her courtroom or 👀 what's going on. It is not as simple as turning a camera on and looking at it the entire time. I have multiple monitors running to see each guest. I also monitor the public and private chats in case there are questions for the guest or other issues with the stream. A backstage area also drew my attention when another user attempted to join the stream, which I inquired about when I saw them backstage. I also pulled up the donation site and placed the link in the chat, which requires looking away from the camera. You may notice the same when other channels have guest on their streams.
