I would be VERY curious if any of these top times could be achieved on the equipment from the era. Framerate for precision and Real Time measurement matters A LOT. The difference that say a mere 100-200ms gain could mean the difference between a 6.8 rounded to 6 versus a straight 7..
Love seeing this and finding out the community is still active. I was around in the late 90's, at the time had a few records, but only one still stands and probably the only reason is no one else has gotten to it yet lol. Can't believe I hadn't seen this channel before! Thanks for making all these videos. Time to speed run watching them :)
Imagine taking 7 seconds to get to work every day and then one day after going to work for thousands and thousands of days you make it in 6 seconds. @.@
I think this is my demo. Whats the name of the map, i remember how i tried beating this record as a new player :D ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UV-LBNk27II.html
I'm team "Shalrath" If I search for "Shalrath art", I'll probably find the character. if I search for "Vore art", well, you better have safe search on. Anyways, shalrath sounds more mystical to me, even if it was someone blindly typing on the keyboard =P
Hey Connor, amazing video, thank you for giving me the opportunity to help you out with the video, i appreciate it :). I didn't light up the test maps and i think they were without -dirtdebug (a feature that does some slight automated lighting for map testing), i always get overfocused or focused in what needs to be done, nonetheless, the purpose was fulfilled, i love watching videos on Quake speedrunning history, you are amazing, keep flying higher with the help of the Voreballs, rocket boost or with your own will. A message to all of you who read my messages : Never give up on your dreams, the best is always yet to come, and you are always capable to do amazing things, hugs for you and all of the Quake community, i love you all! You deserve what you dream! PD: The test maps were uploaded for testing and speedrunning purposes into Slipseer as "Chuma's Experimental Archives Vol 1" with one very short map i've made a while ago for Copper 1.3... Enjoy! :)
Unlike speedrunning, mapping, modding, and multiplayer, people don't really use Quake for machinima anymore. Total conversions are scarce too, but I'm not aware of any machinima at all in a decade or longer. I think the people who would be doing that nowadays are probably using Source Filmmaker or Garry's Mod.
I have suggestion for such videos with custom maps, I'd like to have map list in description, interesting how that map with giant tree is called, also winter map, I recall I played it in some jam, but forgot how this whole mappack was called.
Not gonna lie, from the thumbnail I thought somebody had made a Quake sports game called Voreball and I was friggin hyped. Be like Dead Ball Zone on PS1 but with guns
