Thanks for the video, I have a year old pungo 125 When I pull on the two straps by my hips that bring the seat back forward, they do not hold position, when I let go of the straps the seat just goes to a more back leaning position. Not sure what might be set up wrong or I’m doing wrong. The plastic teeth on the strap buckles do not grab to hold seat in position as desired. Thanks for assisting me, Ron in WA
Great vidoe! I was trying to figure out how to do a trailer on my older Subaru but this costs about the same and will work great! I can't shoulder my yak because it's a sit on top. I was about ready to give up (I'm disabled). Thanks!
Switch the pads on the cradles so you can stuff the straps into the pocket while it’s down at waist height. Then you can left & drop in one continuous motion. I’m 62 y.o. 5’2” woman who’s had several shoulder injuries. Guys are amazed that I can do it by myself after they’ve helped me put my kayak in the cradles.
This video was helpful??? It was just FANTASTIC, mate !! Instead of "studying " a few pages instruction booklet, you've explained everything in 3 easy steps EVRYTHIG!! Thank you ( magic man)
I have two and love them. One word of caution. Always have an end rope. The safety rope has nothing to do with holding the kayak on the vehicle. It’s to keep your kayak from becoming a projectile that could kill someone in an accident. These are mounted with t bolts which will pull out in an accident. Had it happened to me and luckily my safety rope stopped the kayak.
Nice review. I have heard these are great boats. Currently I paddle a Pungo 120. Thinking about upgrading. We mainly run rivers and that means bouncing off of bottoms and rock. My Pungo is pretty tough. How tough is the Sandpiper?
It’s a built-in stop that is locked. When bringing the cradle down, you squeeze the handle to release it from the load bar and it’s vertical. Then squeeze it a 2nd time and pull down til the cradle clicks and stays down. When putting up, you squeeze and pull up. It will stop and lock, then you just push and it drops and should lock horizontally. If it doesn’t you just pull it back up and drop again til it latches.
Thank you for your concise and accurate instructions. We just purchased the Hullavator Pro Kayak Lift and this made it so much easier to learn the operation rather than sifting through the instruction manual. Fantastic!!
Great product. I drive a lot & I don’t want to drive around with that big system always on my roof. How easy to take the actual Hullavator off and back on each time?
It isn't too difficult to take it on and off once you have it set up. If you want to take the bulk of the system off for driving, its held on by a pin, which only takes a minute to take off.
How were you able to put 2 kayaks on the same car in that position?? The one is laying on its side. A d the one your demonstrating with lays flat??? Do you use 2 Thule lifts?? Can you use this system for both sides if that?
I have a similar set up. The driver side has cradles, probably Malone E-Z Loaders, and the Hullavator on the passenger side. The load bars need to be the size up that your car would normally need to avoid the kayaks hitting the side of your car. Yes, you can have 2 Hullavators. A friend of mine has a large pick-up truck with 2 Hullavators for 9 years now, and I had no problem lifting a kayak onto his truck as I’m 5’2”.
Great overview. I’m moving away from solo canoe. Dagger Axis and the Loon look interesting. Axis looks like it can handle moving water. Loon is on mind after a work day, comfort and relaxed 😎
It is absolutely possible to put two of these on one roof! I don't believe that there is a list of cars for this, but as long as your bars are at least 57 (150cm), you should be able to fit two hullavators. This of course can vary depending on what vehicle you have and what kayaks you're putting up there.
Totally agree with you on the quality and rugged looks of the Frost Rivers packs . I've wanted to pull the plug and buy one for ages . But I live in the tropics and the canvas style packs don't seem to be the best choice . Maybe I should get one just for the couple of dry and cool months of the year . Cheers .
OT Loon 160T RIP. Awkward for 1 person but the 160 tandem loon was also a great boat. I still have one but looking for something lighter. I love the seats on the new models.
It would work with most Hobie models, but the Hullavator Pro has a listed weight capacity of 75lbs. It's possible to go over that weight, but it is advised against and it voids the warranty. Do so at your own risk.
Excellent instructions - straight forward and no nonsense. Just purchased a set the other day and about to install onto my car. Thank you for making video!
Hello. What exact canoe is this? I think you said "NovaCraft Pal"... but which length or exact model is this? I think this looks like a good one for me.
It took me 3 years to finally find a good used 2021 Sitka LT in sapphire blue in excellent condition - it just took me crossing border driving over 500 kms (round trip) taking a 30 minute ferry, crossing a bridge to pick it up. After my first paddle I realized it was all worth it!!
I concur, I have 3 Eddyline models including this one and they are all awesome. I fly fish from my Sandpiper 130 and I kayak surf in standing waves with my Skylark.
What’s even better, these are both very stable, I fly fish from my sandpiper 130 and it works great for that, you don’t really need tons of gear either. I just bring one plastic box that seals really well and you can paddle long distances very fast even into the wind, and just carry your rod with reel resting between your legs or on the front bungees. People look at me funny as to why I don’t use a fishing kayak, at 49 lbs and super fast and stable, the sandpiper 130 has proven to me that I do not need one.
Thank you for the comment! The Axis and Aspire are similar boats. I haven't personally paddled in the Aspire, but I would assume that they would handle similarly in flat water and lower class rapids. They both have drop-down skegs and have similar dimensions. A large difference would be that the cockpit on the Aspire is quite a bit larger than the Axis. If you plan on using the kayak for rapids or in tighter rivers, the Axis allows for more bracing with knees and thighs, while the Aspire could be more comfortable with the additional leg room. If you were looking to get a skirt, the Axis would be easier to put a skirt on.
Using the rapid preheater as shown, which was intended for army use in extreme cold, is hard on the mantle. The better method is to fill the pan with alcohol, I use Everclear or 99% rubbing alcohol, Let it burn, repeat and then open the valve.
Help. I got a hk500 and it worked good the first time I used it . The next time i turned it on the mantel juat got full with black sut. So i changed the mantels and the second time after i preheated it the turned the regulator it just filled with sut again
@@theclassicoutdoors yes sorted it. It was the gap between the generator and that u shaped pipe. I put some of that exhaust repair puttey to hold it in place it works great now thanks.
