Hey there, I'm Ariel (@adubondubs) and this is my channel SKTSHT. I'm not the best skater, but have the best time skating :)
Skating is such a great hobby and I just want to spread the knowledge and experiences I have doing it with you all. So that's where this channel comes in.
Wow! Thanks for posing this. You just gave me a great idea. There is a Target in my area that has an upper level parking lot that people NEVER use. I park up there when I go there just for that reason. I'm going to try skating up there.
Thank you for the comparison. I have heeled skates and just don’t care for them because they have the heel of my foot so high and at such an un natural angle for me. I have planters fasciitis with a med to low arch so I can’t do heeled skates. I used to go bare foot a lot and wear flatter shoes so now I stick to zero drop shoes with custom insoles. Plus I started out on roller blades which are usually flat. All that to say I think I’m going to try flat skates and see how they work for me.
At least you only spent $6...i spent over $100 for those... 😅... However, i must say it works different parts of your leg muscles because the skate is designed differently....
I have Riedell 111’s and they feel soooo heavy and clunky. I also wear a size 11 in women’s and have long narrow feet. I have been eyeing the parkstars because they seem like they would be a better fit. I usually wear chick Taylor’s or vans, so pretty flat shoes. I just don’t feel like I can maneuver well with how big and heavy my skates seem. Now I just need to find a store in maryland that stocks them! Oh… I’m a drum-fried hard type of girl, lol 😂
pretty good comparison and explanations. I've been skating for a few months bow, learning on heeled boots. I'm also getting flaneur with vans sneakers pretty soon and people were starting to freak me out about the seemingly impossible transition from heels to flat lol. not sure if your video gave me more confidence, but it definitely explained what aspects I need to look out for!
Glad it helped do something lol The confidence will definitely come! Either way, I'm sure you're in for a fun experience. Best of luck! No need to be freaked out at all!
Nice! I'm also looking to buy a pair. I don't know if i want something more urban/street skating or aggressive. There's so much info online, its overwhelming tbh. I don't know any inline rollerblade store near me so i can't even go in to get expert advice
It’s definitely an overwhelming amount of info online, especially when it comes with so many options, preferences, etc. Even now, years later, I constantly swap or update my skates to accommodate the type of skating I want to do. I hope you enjoy whichever route you end up going!
Since the pandemic so much has changed in my neighborhood. I can’t skate in my favorite spot anymore. But I’m seeking new places to skate to stay active.
Where do you buy stylish skates? I’m a guy and what I discovered is most skates for guys look exactly the same. Are there places to order skates with more variety?
They really do. A lot of the brands will let you customize the colors of your skates for an extra fee. Bont and Riedell I know off the top of my head. They both have a ton of color options to choose from. Otherwise, if you like the jam skate style, VNLA has some cool colors too.
Damn slide blocks for skates are pretty low to the ground!!. I just got new in line skates and just put the blocks in mine. I didnt even know people were grinding on roller skates 'till recently. Looks so cool.
Overall, I use something soft like 78A outdoors. If the tennis court is really smooth and no cracks, I’ll go harder with my 92As. I prefer softer wheels at the garages though since the cement isn’t as consistent where I go.
This is such a great message! I'm watching this as I'm getting ready to go out, and I needed to hear the encouragement. I feel like I'm not making much progress, but I wanna keep reminding myself to take it at my own pace. Also, thanks for that reminder that ain't nobody looking at me! It lessens the paranoia I have lol.
I ordered my skates on May 25th and I have not received any information other my order# I've tried reaching out but no number and email gets sent back to me. Does anyone have customer service number? Please help me out. I order through your link with the discount of 15% just wondering if I should be worried..
Hey there! Sorry to hear you’re experiencing a delay with your order. I’m not affiliated with Moonlight, so I’m not familiar with any discount code associated with sktsht or any of my accounts. However, according to a post on their Instagram, the fastest way to contact them about an order is via the direct chat bubble on their website. It says they should respond within 24-48 hours. You might have luck getting into contact with them there and mentioning your order number. Otherwise, it says you can send them a DM on Instagram if you have one with your order number if you haven’t heard anything. I hope the issue is able to be resolved quickly. I don’t wish that kind of uncertainty on anyone.
@jessielea836 Their website is shuttered and the company is involved in some serious litigation. Google "Moonlight Rollers Company Accused of Fraud". I hope u get your money back. I was considering purchasing skates from MR several months ago. I'm glad I didn't as they've been out of inventory for a while but were still taking orders. This could be due to the supply chain issues caused by the pandemic. Still an unfortunate situation because overall reviews on the skates were pretty positive.
I also ordered a pair a little over a month ago and now I’m scared they’ll never come because their website is completely gone :( I’m sad I’m just seeing this now
I tried once the boots and i was just confused about how people skate in those. I always used low cut shoes, and having my ankles blocked just seems weird. I see a lot of people with boots do not tie the boots, so i am curious to try them again and see how having a heel feels. Thanks for the video.
Thank you so much! Accessories make such a huge difference, so it's always fun to play around with them to see which ones you like. I hope you're enjoying skating so far!
Hahahahahaa I know how you feel except it rains a lot in my state. It rains a lot in April, May, and June. And my skating rinks are open during the evenings… all of them. They are closed when I am free and open when I am at work. I saw that Arizona has an indoor rink bc of the extreme heat. MA should do the same because of the rain.
Jennifer Greene may have said it best: "sometimes small businesses need to keep things small for as long as possible, so they aren't overextended.." - especially without [vertical integration?], with your own factories & labor supply at the manufacturing end, or at least the economies of scale [& resulting prioritization] that huge wholesalers & huge retailers have, covid-era & post-covid semipermanent/permanent changes to factories' production runs, supply chains, & parts availability, & modern computerized 'just-in-time' shallow stock practices, can make what look like growth opportunities into total disaster for a small company. Even pre-covid, too-fast growth was a recipe for disaster, but during the pandemic & post-covid, all the old rules for global [manufacturer; vendors; contracts; prioritization; shipping; wholesaler; stock; retailer] business are obsolete. (Sorry for the run-on sentence).
