I had leukemia in 2019 and went through a bone marrow transplant right before the start of the pandemic. Needless to say it was a big fright as a patient with an immune deficiency. I've managed to protect myself so far with N95 masks and I take care with hygene and I avoid unnecessary contact with people. I will be traveling in september on a plane and I was considering using a respirator and was looking for what type of filter to use. I came upon your video on the 6035 filters an I ordered some for my flight. I know that these respirator masks are not ideal for use by the general population as they have an exhalation valve that basically lets all the contents of the users breath out but considering that I will not be infected with covid or anything else I figure I would not be a danger to anyone on the plane with such a mask. What would your recommendation be all things considered ? Also thanks for the informative videos !
Hi Ciel, I am so sorry you developed leukaemia - and at such a bad time for access to healthcare outside of covid. Alas, given your specific question, I cannot give individual personal advice since I am a medical practitioner and we do not have a therapeutic relationship. In your case I would urge you to seek the advice of the medical team treating your condition and I hope and pray you can fight your way through it and enjoy a long life.
@@michaelayling1579 Thank you so much for the kind words ! I probably should have added that I am much better now, full remission and 100% chimerism and I no longer take chemo pills. I am also vaccinated for covid so it's not as big of a fright as when it all started but I still very much try to protect myself as best I can. I'll be traveling for holiday by plane for the first time in three years and that's where my questions began. I'm leaning towards the respirator because of tge much tighter seal it gives around the face. I also found the 3m 6035 filters you were talking about at a very reasonable price of 10 euro per pair and ordered myself some. I found tge exhalation valve filters as well but I can't find them for sale in my country
From the perspective of a budget minded person- I am watching your videos tonight as I have just bought the 7500 half mask with the 6035 P2 filter. This is mostly because I find myself spending far far far too much as an individual on masks. (first on the useless cloth ones, then when it hit here properly I changed to some p2 disposables) I understand that as an individual rather than a doctor I am not the target of your videos. For me it IS still more about personal protection, because no one else around me seems to care anymore despite the rising hospitalisation. So either way, I thank you for your opinion, and your dissection of what the 3M claims were- and the easy to understand fitting, filter and fit-testing guides. Unfortunately my profession isn't being just given disposable PPE- so the idea of a filter that I can use for many months if I take proper care of it sounds much better than my consistently weekly rotated disposables...
Just FYI - you can get elastomeric respirators with N95-level exhalation filters now: the 3M 6200 half-mask + 7093 P100 filters + 604 (N95-analog) exhalation filter; for example that's what I've started using since BA.2 became a major concern, because I am around hundreds of people in poorly ventilated areas for long periods of time. For anyone who has one of those and properly fits it with BOTH inhalation AND exhalation filters: don't retire it, it's still much better than a disposable respirator. Eye protection is also a good idea, if you're like me and are frequently in crowded/poorly ventilated areas; there is some evidence that you can get COVID through the membranes in your eyes, although that is expected to be less common. Anyway, that's my 2 cents.
Do you have a link for that? I tried 3D printing a CAD for one, but the parts are so small that I couldn't get the resolution to not wreck it with my Ender 5.
I use a 3M 6200 medium respirator with a pack of 2, 3m NIOSH 7093CN or 7093 P-100 Particulate filter and replace them every month or 40 hour of use. The respirator must fit tight on your face. I have a full face respirator but cannot use it because the public still cannot understand the nature of COVID 19 ( a RNA with 26000 - 32000 codes) that mutates very rapidly to adapt. It isn't the case if all of us would be infected, the question is when and for ages over 70 the mortality is at least 10 %.
How do I measure which full-face mask fits my face? So that I won't make a mistake in ordering! Thanks! Thanks a lot for making this video! God bless you!
Doc Im from Singopre On the filter there are 4 pinch tab , remove the cover and disinfection internal white HEPA filter with UV-C 254nm 36watts light for 10mins once done clip the cover back on , I have use the filter for 9 months usage and stay safe guys
Don’t know about the silver thing, but the virus doesn’t get about on its own. It is charged and adherent to another particulates and spittle. Also, Brownian motion means that the particulars trace an erratic path, being caught on the filter. So the particle size comparison is not so straightforward as it seems.
DOCTOR I WEAR PRESCRIPTION GLASSES .IS FULL MASK SUITABLE FOR ME OR DO I NEED TO STICK TO HALF FACE MASK ,AND WHICH HALF FACE MASK YOU WOULD RECOMMEND ,THANKS
Hello Sir, I am using Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate Tablets (2 grams) for disinfecting the 3M 6800 Mask. Is 200ppm and 10 mins dipping time enough for disinfection? I also wash the mask with detergent before and then spray Hypochlorous Acid (HOCL 200ppm) and then go for dipping in Disinfectant for 10 mins.
When we had covid patients, I managed them in the ICU and Emergency Departments in this respirator when called upon to intubate a covid patient. I was a part of the anaesthetic covid intubation team at the hospital where I work the most. If for some reason we get another wave, I will again be on that team. Since these videos were produced, that hospital has managed to procure CleanSpace Halo PAPR respirators, so we will be using them. But we will keep the 3M respirators as a backup.
Thank you so much for sharing. My partner is a GP so this got him very excited. I’m a mere mortal, but your review was clear, concise and you managed to engage my non-medical brain too.
Thank you this is very helpful, can you give me an advice to avoid pressure injuries at nose area, as i wear the respirator for continous 6 hours in an contaminated area which lead to injury of my nose which is quite painful
How can you make sure these items are not fake buying online ? I bought number of these in feb 2020 but the respirator is starting to wear . I see the cartridges and respirators for sale online but I know there's a lot of fake stuff going around out there. I even ordered one of these off ebay and it was a fake Chinese filter and respirator
I’m a senior with a long history of an immune system disorder. I have the 3m 7502 and have been using the organic vapor cartridges. And a plastic retainer that holds a P100 filter. Is this set up ok for Covid? Thank you so much for your informative video and stay safe!
So long as you have the particulate filter attached, that will filter virus. You must be sure not to touch the outer surface of the filter. Unfortunately there is a large hole on in the particulate filter holder that allows just that. So you need to be very careful. Some people have made 3D printed covers for the hole. You would need to search for them yourself online. You would be better to find and order a specific particulate filter like the two that I mentioned.
Thank you, Doctor! Yes, I have the particulate filter attached with a plastic retainer that 3m makes. I’m glad you think it’s a good set up for a COVID prevention. Take care and thank you so much for All you’re doing.
Hi thanks for sharing. Here in Scotland there’s quite a lot of confusion re so called ‘P3RD’ filters where the ref to ‘RD’ remains unclear in the context of whether they offer less protection from Covid-19 compared to P3 filters. The ones your using don’t appear to state ‘RD’ so I’ve got some added work to do to see whether they’re effective. Keep up the good work abs stay safe. John

thanks for the video- just wondering if you mind sharing which comms units you are teaming with these masks? thanks Mark Newcombe EM and Retrieval Specialist Sydney HEMS
Hi Mark, We have been using AfterShokz Aeropex and Trex bone-conducting Bluetooth headsets over a group voice chat over Discord. When there is an airway call, after donning PPE, we pair our phone with a headset (some also have their own headsets), sign into the Discord chat, comms test and proceed.
