I won't bore everyone with the details but I have some health issues that make it so the only animal products I can consume are eggs and honey. No meat, no dairy, etc. It is possible to eat a well balanced diet and get nearly all of those nutrients in plant based ways (enough that it's perfectly healthy to do so for most people). It does take more work, research, and sometimes a little extra cash but it can be done, and done pretty affordably, if you choose to go that route. No shame to those who choose an omnivores diet. I just thought that was worth mentioning. Also, vegetable water becomes a delicious veggie broth with the addition of a few herbs and spices and it adds lots of flavor and nutrients to all kinds of things. I love using it to cook potatoes, pasta, or rice or use it as a base for soups or sauces. It's a great way to sneak a bit more nutrients into kids who fight eating veggies. Sure, just eating the veggies is often healthier but veggie broth is wonderful for those who dislike or can't digest vegetable solids.
My tea blends usually help with my energy levels and relaxation. When there are colds and fevers, I turn to herbal teas, too. For overall health and wellness, it’s my diet and lifestyle that have made the biggest impact. Herbs won’t help anyone very much if they’re regularly consuming junk… Input, output.
I really enjoyed your video. I'm in Maine USA. We heat our home with only a pellet stove. In the winter I hang our laundry up to dry on racks near the pellet stove, right before bed and they are dry and ready to be taken care of in the morning. My dryer only gets used in the summertime during rainy days or wicked humid days when the clothes can not entirely dry on the clothes line. I'll bring them in and touch them up in the dryer on humid days. I do not shower that often either. A hot soapy wash cloth is all I need in the morning and night and then shower and wash my hair once or twice a week as needed. I will also wear my jeans a few days if not dirty and my.nightgowns 2 nights. Any flannel shirt or cardigan sweater will be worn most of the week before washing because I have a shirt underneath. I have to remind myself to turn off the TV and cell phone and read. I love to read but have to really prioritize it. I have noticed that I do not feel like myself if I spend every evening on electronics. I think cooking is our biggest energy usage because I cook everything from scratch. Our electric rate is 32 cents a kwh here and they have now added these stranded charges it is insane how much my bill can be while being super frugal.
It might sound wrong, but pork should be cooked medium to medium rare for optimal juiciness. Between 145-160ºF is the sweet spot. I know some people like cooking their meat until it's well done, but for juicy pork chops, that's the temperature range you want.
Hello, thanks for sharing how you use violet. Letting the leaves set a day before infusion made sense. As for the ice cream I thought the end result of violets throughout was pretty. I would have made a violet ripple using a very thick violet syrup. After making vanilla ice cream and drizzle on top or slowly stirring it through soft ice cream( maybe with a skewer) For loose tea I use a glass tea pot that looks like a cup sold by Golden Moon Tea. It has a strainer at the top. After steeping I just pour out the tea. No bag, no metal, easier than a tea ball.
Thank you kindly for your reply. FlyLady has certainly come a long way with her offerings! I knew of the APP but did not know it was free until this video.. I can deal with apps and phones and such.. I will attempt to download it on my kindle... In the meantime I downloaded it after this tutorial ..She is definitely my go to when the relapse happens 💯💯@@VintageKitchenVixen
It’s mostly a taste preference. Yarrow, for instance, has a medicinal taste, so I always put in an extra part of peppermint or spearmint to help mask the flavour. I’m not a fan of the taste of licorice root, so I’ll double up on other parts so it becomes more of sweetener than an overpowering flavour. More often than not, I’ll do an equal ratio of whatever I’m blending unless there’s something I’d really like to shine in the blend. Hope that helps!
I make steelcut oats in the slow cooker. I use a timer & set to 4 to 6 hours on low. (Varies according to the type of cooker). I usually use half milk, half water. If using milk, i will either butter the bottom or use a pan spray. Sometimes i add dried fruit. I like oat groats even better. (Like steel cut but the kernels are left whole) i cook those for 6 to 8 hours. The slow cooker is very forgiving & even if you cook it longer than necessary, it doesn't get mushy. And yes, i do use milk when i use a timer as the milk won't spoil in that short time before it starts cooking. I love the smell when i wake up the next morning.
I must make this! Our son was married in Germany on New Years Eve! & what a feast! My favorite dish is Sweet & Sour Short Ribs of Beef with Dumplings + red cabbage, requested every year on my birthday :D
The Whirley Pop price shocked me! There is no way I paid even half that amount years ago for one. And it is made from aluminum. Headaches and Alzheimer material.
I got mine as a gift over a decade ago and completely forgot that it’s made out of aluminum! I still love it though and would have a hard time parting with it 😅
Heads up: If u make a batch of White Chocolate Chip cookies, sometimes the cheaper brands will use vegetable oil. I premixed a double batch in a glass jar, then moved, and when baked they had a rancid taste.
good morning quick question on the reusing the beans for more extract. I presently have a 8c/ 8oz going want to wait a year. My question is when time comes how should I do the second batch to come out just as strong, should I do 8c / 4oz new 4oz old bean? Ty
Hi! I usually don’t measure mine, but I would probably do 8c/6oz new bean and 2oz old bean. The more new beans you can do, the richer your extract will be. Hope this helps!
Does this app have offline mode? I don't always have access to internet and need a digital app that can be used offline. Of all the productivity apps, this one is the easiest to use, but it will be useless during the times when I have limited internet access.
@@VintageKitchenVixen thanks! I kind of thought that was the case. I did figure something out, I think my Samsung Notes pad can be used of- line, so I can create lists on my notepad for my Cabin home, using the same kind of lists as on the app. I will need to create a completely different schedule for the cabin anyway.

Hello Sylvia! I just discovered your channel today! I've been watching your German recipes and then I decided to subscribe while watching this video. Looks like you have been doing this for awhile, so I will have to catch up! Your new friend and subscriber, Heide.❤
I make my own almond milk using almonds, water, dates and vanilla extract. My blender is powerful. Instead of making extract can I simply put the whole vanilla beans in the blender?
I’ve never tried blending a whole vanilla bean before, so I don’t really know, but I know some people will blitz their vanilla pods when making vanilla sugar, so I think it’s worth the experiment!
I planted a garden then discoverd i had rabbits When life feeds you lemons..... My marksmanship has improved and now i have meat with my potatoes Thank you Thumper 😅
