Hi there, We are Mark, Clemency and Liam Whittles along with our two kelpies Kosta and Curi.
We have now been travelling around Australia for over 2 years!
We set off as a lap of Australia but very quickly fell in love with the lifestyle of being on the road and spending our days together as a family, so we slowed right down and started working our way around the country. We work remotely for a company back in Perth but also stop every few months and work in whatever is going (hospitality, retail, caravan parks etc.) This works for us, we have met so many amazing people around the country because of the way we travel, and we are learning a range of new skills.
Our videos are there to capture our adventure on the road, they are made in the hope that you watch along regularly, get to know us and share in our adventures. We love interacting and even meeting some of our followers as we go, so if you see us out and about please do stop and say G'Day!
Mark, I can very much relate to your experience of Heath being a mummy's boy. My 2 year old is the same so I am kind of relieved that I'm not the only dad to experience this. At the same time I sympathise with you because it can be a bit depressing. My son is better with me when it's just him and me but when my wife is nearby he just wants to be with her all the time. Our elder son was never like that so it has been unexpected and a challenge to deal with. My wife keeps reassuring me that he will be ok with me as he grows. I'm looking forward to when he can talk and hopefully be positive towards me.
yeh that must be hard with the 2 year old, it is definitely better if its just me and him, if Clem is around its all Mum! my time will come with him, at the moment i get a lot of extra one on one time with Liam so will cherish that while i can.
It might help using more keywords in the title and description. Travelling, Australia, Vcaravan, etc. Maybe hire an SEO person on upwork (is better) or fiverr. You Get what you pay for. . Maybe books like SEO for dummies or check out books on SEO for youtube. Booktopia etc. Also a website with weekly blog posts of greater than 500 words is good with links to the Episode. All help When I go travelling for 1-2 years this is what I will be doing. What ever you do, don;t start down the drama track, as Sarah and I have stopped watching the channels we did follow, with stupid titles and drama where is should not be drama. Like 1 (no names) who was bogged in sand for the whole episode, that did it for us. You are natural and many of us like that. Length of videos you do, is good. Put in more of where you are in the titles. As I search for places to go to, when we will travel. We have been watching since the start. You could ask all the viewers, Say you are not doing well on youtube, and if they could subscribe and hit the like and leave a small comment. This also help with ranking. I am sure many will. Search youtube of SEO for youtube as a starter. In google search bar, type Traveling ans see what google recommends as they are the most popular search terms they try to pre-populate, for the user. Caravan, etc Buy a $30 SEO for dummies could the a good start. Keep up the good work. Chris & Sarah.
That was an interesting chat. Isn't it great to share information with fellow travellers. We've helped & received help from lots of people in our travels. Great episode team. Thanks
Oh absolutely! Its been a constant stream of all helping eachother these past 3 weeks. People helping me drop car off to mechanic, ive helped with water top ups and power issues, someone even did a weld job for me. Has been a great community of people. Thanks for watching
Had an Audi 80 2.0 litre sport engine killed because some airhhead fitted timing belt without replacing with new pulleys, not that much of a cost to replace😢
Great video Whittles. We've just got our first van so just looking for tips. The Kaon shelf in your vehicle is a great idea which I've found online, We have the same brand fridge so I'll get some fans. Where did you get those? I like the idea of the shunt too so where was it from? We're lucky that our van has the same hitch and lithium batteries already and we got the diesel heater added with a 10 lt tank. What size tank do you have as you say it lasts about 2 weeks?
Hey, glad you found it helpful! We have a 10L tank too, don’t often fill it the whole way but yeh about 2 weeks. We don’t run it all night though. The shunt is a victron shunt, go the smartshunt IP65 waterproof one. So many places sell them i just picked a website that had a sale at the time. The fans are Klevacool by 3Dprint RV, Qld made
I think you just have to accept that being normal is just not of interest to some people but please don’t change. We would miss you dearly if you stop doing what you do. A tip for making money a bit more easily … instead of making 1 x 30 minute episode each week, make 2 x 20 minute episodes and spread them over a fortnight. You can make them both in the one week but post them over two weeks and so every second week you don’t have to do anything. It will be less effort but you’ll get the same people viewing both and so probably make just as much money with less effort. One little thing that I would suggest is that if you can find a way to better block out background noise when you are talking in your car then it will be easier to hear you. We watch you because you are real, you are honest, we can relate to you, you have two young boys just like us (ours are 7 and 2 years old), you go to lovely scenic locations that are not constantly in the outback and you go to places that we would enjoy going to ourselves. I can understand that you would like to have more viewers so as to be making more money for all the work that goes into making each episode. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who are only interested in a bit of drama. For example, I see that your recent episode called “Not going anywhere” has had 22,000 views and it was great that the title was appropriate, We are very much put off by people exaggerating with titles that sound dramatic but when you watch the episode the issue was very minor. RU-vidrs who are doing that are not real and we quickly lose interest. We have switched off from channels that spend so much of their time in Western Australia and in the outback. We are tired of watching people such as Elnick Adventures who drive their car through ludicrously stupid places and try to convince us that camping on a patch of dirt in the middle of nowhere is fun and going 3-4 days without a shower is fun (really? I don’t think so). And I immediately change channels whenever someone goes to the Ningaloo coastline because I am over it, I have seen it too many times. Just my thoughts.
hey, thanks for the feedback. yeh we have always had an issue with background noise in the car, i think we need to look into a different microphone. we have gone down that path of the 20 minute episodes, bumping them up to 30 is only a recent change but it has been a positive change so far, our retention levels have increased. I really don't mind the work that goes into them, i treat it as my hobby but i do find it disheartening when as you say 22k people watch us have a car issue but a video im really proud of (say the boating day one recently) doesn't get any attention, starts to feel like people only want to watch us suffer which we know isn't the case, we have an amazing following of regulars but just seems wrong. It is what it is we won't be changing what we do for anyone else. in essence this is capturing our life the way we want to look back on it one day and be proud of. Thanks for following along and taking the time to provide some feedback for us.
I can’t understand what the issue is with your views but we think your content is just what we like. You are correct in referring to the drama and click-bait rubbish attracts the viewers but, we, and others are over the false pretentious crap that is all over the tube now. We have unsubscribed from several of those which we have watched, from the start, some of them and just don’t follow anymore. Sad and disappointing really 😢 Keep doing what you are doing and maybe encourage more add watching? That will help the algorithm. But I’m sure you are all over it. It would be a sad day indeed if you disappeared 😔 Love the "Liam treaty 😅 We passed Crystal Creek and thought it was not for caravans so didn’t bother 😬 Will make an effort next time. Thanks for all your hard work. 🫶🏻🍻👌🏼💯🤗😉🦆
Yeh it is sad when the good ones go down that road. I think what helps the algorithm the most is the Click through rate. How many see the video vs how mang click on it. But it really doesn’t bother us too much, we live making them and our audience will find us if they look hard enough. We always love your support, hope your own travels are going well, we might see you on the road later in the year
We really enjoy all your yt offerings and have gradually stopped watching the other types of people who name their video with outrageously misleading false clickbait as you mentioned. Please continue your videos. Quality content is not too common, so thanks for your brilliant honest efforts!
I love your footage and dont be disheartened :) Maybe just relax a little bit more with what you do. I know its hard with kiddies but maybe let Liam guide you a tad more with his fun ways lol. You are doing a great job guys...Thimbs up all the way
Thank you! Definitely not stopping or changing. We were just discussing it and thought our followers might be interested in what goes on in the background. Thank you for watching and following along
Feel you guys. Some of the videos we are the most proud of have some of the lowest views, good retention just low views. We are much much smaller and newer than you guys but we figure if we change to a different type of content to get the views we will burn out as its not what we enjoy. Keep doing what you do as there seems to be a swing happening where people are searching for authentic creators like you.
Yeh thats 100% im not interested in making something i myself don’t enjoy. But your right it is disheartening when something your really proud of goes no where but something goes wrong and you get thiusands and thiusands more views. You start to get the feeling people only want to watch you suffer 😅
Hi Mark, Clem, Liam and Heath, as everyone is saying, please don’t change who you are or your videos. We love watching your honest and natural RU-vid videos. I like many others and getting very sick and tired of this Click Bait stage all the others are putting up just to get attention, yours are the true type of videos everyone wants to watch which are natural and what happens in a normal day of life Take care and keep enjoying your travels and lifestyle, it’s one that many of us could only dream of doing Colin and Chris
Aww thanks guys, always appreciate your support! We like these types of videos which is ehy we made ours in this way. Won’t be changing, i want to look back and enjoy them myself!
Great backing there team. I must concur with other comments here. You guys are down to earth & present yourselves "as you are". I look forward to your posts each week. I had to laugh at Liam insisting on a peanut butter wrap. Funny. 😊
Don’t get disheartened. I’ve been watching I think possibly since you began… we got our New Age around the same time. I don’t sleep because of my disability so I tend to watch your episodes around 3am on Saturday mornings (tough start in house so just getting to it now!). Hang in there. We are about to start sharing our videos and the road to my forced medical retirement, raising a teen, travels, buying a property and building our forever home. Some weeks we expect our world will be quite boring, and has been really lovely watching Liam grow up.
@MickBurns-ev1nn inox you say? Yeh its a nasty bit of cancer that one! I got it sll cut away and resprayed back in 2019 but this bit csme back with a vengeance
I love watching your channel and look forward to your new video. I enjoy the real life content and the fact that you don’t hide how tough it can be on the road. I really enjoy the practical stuff such as what you’re cooking, places you have visited and what the camp grounds are like that you stay in. All of this gives me inspiration as we start our caravanning adventures. Maybe a little reminder to everyone to like and subscribe and leave you a comment I know I sometimes forget.
Thank you! Im so glad you find them useful and inspriringZ We do try and include all those things where we can. Is not always exciting but is real life on the road. Thanks for watching and appreciate the support!
Your videos are genuine and show things as they are at the time. The only way you are going to increase your view numbers is to make your videos more dramatic and unrealistic which would spoil them. For those of us who do not want to watch a sales program showing unrealistic drama, we will continue to watch you each week as we currently do. I am sure Liam and Heath will look back at your videos in 30 to 40 years to come and appreciate them better for genuine way that they were filmed today. Keep up the great work and enjoy what you are doing.
100% we believe the same, i look back at our channel with fondness, its never been my job its a hobby and i love doing it. Liam already loves looking back on it and im sure Heathy will too. We are capturing his earliest days in a way we will love to watch again in future. Thanks for the support guys. We really appreciate it
I love your videos and the content is very helpful, informative and realistic. Please don't change anything. I understand your concern but honestly, I very strongly dislike the drama that some people have and most of it is generated for their videos. Real drama is unfortunate but happens but why create it unnecessarily? Keep up the great work. Your family and adventures are great and seeing the two boys growing and developing is truly heartwarming and interesting. Stay safe and healthy and enjoy your travels.❤
Thank you, we don’t plan on changing anything. When drama arises we show it but definitely not going to create it for the sake of views. Thank you for following along, we really appreciate your support
Hey legends, i personally can say that I love watching your videos because there is NO drama. Dont be disheartened your lovely family are living the dream and making memories. I appreciate all your hard work with doing RU-vid. Tonight my only Drama was a My Whittle Adventure vlog and a Svedos Trippin vlog to watch, both my favourite RU-vid families. Hmmm who to watch first 😂 My Friday evening has been awesome. Thanks for all you do.
Thank you! Definitely watch us first and make sure you tell Brett i said so 😅 I still need to watch his one, its usually a Saturday morning viewing for me. Thanks fof your support, we really appreciate it
The Svedos were in my part of the south west this vlog, very cool to think I could have run into them. And glad they enjoyed their time here. Hopefully I will run into you legends in the south west one day when you're back in W.A. Safe travels.
As an "oldie" who only started the camper trailer and now caravan travels three and a half years ago (after I turned 75) I enjoy your down-to-earth videos. I no longer follow several other YT travel videos because I am sick of the click-bait thumbnails and the incessant promotions of products. I'm not interested in wearing their apparel and I don't trust most of their promos of products. Keep it real guys like you are.
Thanks buddy! We really appreciate your support, we do feel the same too we have stopped following a fair few we used to enjoy too. We have our favourites and stick with them now. Enjoy your travels!
Stay true to who you guys are. I would rather watch your channel rather than some channels who put their significant other up wearing next to nothing and all the click bait words they use. Please stay family friendly. We love watching you guys your more down to earth which is a rare thing nowadays. Keep it up.
We enjoy watching your videos and adventures. Don't change what your doing to please others. Enjoy your lifestyle and keep making loving memories with your family.
