I just want to say a heartfelt thank you. After hours of trying to fix the thread break I came online and found you. I never heard of the batting thing so I tried it and OMG it fixed it. Quilted for 3 hours without breakage. Thank you thank you thank you
@@zorina831 oh good!! I just had 5 thread breaks on a quilt yesterday. The best fix was moving the needle to 5:30 and slowing my computer to 40% speed. Happy Quilting!! Angie
I actually started doing this about 18 years ago because im lazy 😂 I started collecting quilts about 60 years ago and after a while i dicovered some boxes full of quilt pieces and some blocks, unfinished, some with the needle still in the act of completing a stitch. My quilts were faded and often in shreds and i would save what i could of them. I began researching conservation of antique textiles in the Smithsonian and learned they used a sheer, 100% silk called Crepeline, i think, at about $100 a bolt. I found some and it was about as sheer as a certain kind of tulle i found for something else, so i started using the tulle to repair some old quilts. As time went on i used varous techniques on my quilts and many times just used the tulle under the antique quilt tops for stability when they were quilted. I dont have new quilts, just antique quilt tops that i finish for the long-ago ladies that started them and i hope they would be pleased.
It's interesting that I just happened across your video. I have a quilt that I made about 25 years ago. I noticed that some squares have come unsewed. I've been pondering what to do about it. My quilt is hand tied with a light flannel blanket inside it. The hand ties have held up wonderfully. I think maybe your tulle idea might work in little sections; like covering the frayed blocks. I could hand sew it generously over the block and hand quilt it inside the block. There are only a few squares that need repair. Thanks for getting my idea mojo going!
Well done Angie! So, that idea came to me after I did not want to sew down a million pieces of applique on my first applique quilt. I found that applique is not for me, LOL. But, this will work nicely for the few times I may make another applique quilt top.
Thank you so much for this quilt show video, I am a senior citizen and am no longer able to attend these wonderful shows. Thank you again for sharing this, it truly blessed my day.
Great tutorial. I finally got PS but it’s PSL for a Moxie. I’m bummed that I don’t have a Swap Start/Stop button. But, I’m still very happy about having it. The first thing I do was come back to this video so I could remember how to do it. So happy to learn from you! ❤
That is for paper pantographs. It helps protect them and helps us square them up when we rent time on our machines. I don’t currently have a source for these. We have had this for over 10 years…
Oh my goodness Angie. I’ve been using my machine for 2 1/2 years limping along without your brilliant suggestions. Adams, the one that got me to buy my machine and I love him too but this video just hit the spot. Thank you so much I learned so much and I can’t wait to start using this method. I bought a pattern that had just one little 3 in square. kindkind of looked like a pocket. It’s sewed out beautifully but I was frustrated in having 25 3 inch rows!! I knew there had to be another way, and here it is. Also, I have a new laptop and I hope to start using it to set up my patterns and work spaces there like you did instead of doing it at the machine. It seems very helpful and easy, especially being able to use a mouse. Thanks again. Juli Chambers. Arlington TX 😁😉
Oh Juli! I’m so sorry I missed your comment. Thank you so much!! I just love this way and I have to give Adam credit, he showed me this way and I was like holy cow yes!!! Happy Quilting and thank you for watching. ❤️
Nice work. Looks so warm. Have you ever made a pieced quilt top with Minky (not the Luxe version)? I am about to attempt to make a quilt top with pieced Minky with a Minky backing. I think I will try the no binding version that you did in the video.
Hello! Yes, you can piece any type of the minky fabric. A 1/2” seam will hold better than a 1/4” seam so just make sure to use that. I haven’t tried sewing the minky lux on a regular sewing machine through the middle. I did find that using a walking foot (even feed foot) did help prevent too much stretching when sewing the edges together on my domestic sewing machine. Happy Quilting!!
O M G this video saved my sanity. I was having thread break after thread break after thread break. Every time I thought I had it solved, it would happen again. Thank you so much!
I charge $.07 per inch around the quilt at attach to only 1 side. If they want it completely attached and finished I charge $.21 per inch. Say the quilt is 90x108 so I add 90+90+108+108 = 396 then multiply $.07 or $.021 I have another video that shows how I machine bind to close it up and finish it.
I own The Quilting Connection and we are the originator of the zipper system! You can find them on our website here stores.longarmconnection.com/quick-zip-system/
