We envision a world where data is used to drive systemic change, economic mobility, and student success. To make this a reality, families, educators, communities, and policymakers must have the information they need to foster successful journeys through education and the workforce.
Unfortunately too many school districts don't have access to their students' data, their data is disseminated in silos dinosaur databases often managed by uninspired LEA staff who care more about their job security than the students' future... and so no big picture is possible even though the solutions exist in this day and age of cloud computing. Antique SISs vendors also block the way at the state level (with state report cards) for any kind of innovation.
Rumors are that the US government use low student performance data to punish teachers. And teachers are so stressed out about students' exam scores that they focus solely on drilling to achieve the high score. And yet the PISA test result still ranks the US at the lower end of the spectrum. I wonder why......
hmm... I loved the way some people were green screened to look like they were interviewed in the library or the classroom, but they were actually in a film studio somewhere, and how the teachers in the stock footage were not the same teachers being interviewed. Very deceptive filming.
I am interested in using this video in a professional development curriculum we are writing at Deeper Dive Learning. I would appreciate if you could let me know of a current email where I could send you more information about this, as we hope you will be interested in furthering the professional development of many passionate educators. With sincerest thanks, Pamela Bruening, Ed. D.
Excellent video! As a vendor that offers Data Warehousing and BI solutions to K-12, we know how challenging it can be to communicate the numerous advantages to the district, at all levels. While administrators often see the advantages of using data for performance measures, principals and teachers are often so busy with daily operational challenges the thought of implementing "another process" seems overwhelming . This video illustrates how data can be successfully used at the teacher level to help student performance!
How terrific it is to hear these education professionals speak so clearly and concisely how using data helps us be efficient and far more effective. Technologies, tools and good research is making data use far more accessible in this fast paced and ever-changing institution. Hurrah for all of your students!
Education data are not just scores from standardized tests-they also include information on teacher credentials, formative assessments, attendance, graduation rates, and college enrollment. Today teachers have access to more quality education data than ever. When used along with pedagogy, content knowledge, and professional judgment, these data can be used responsibly to improve outcomes for kids. Check out our video about how different kinds of data can help teachers help their students succeed: #eddata #edtech #edchat
You haven't really said what kind of data. Everyone watching this video is left with their hands up and open saying "I've gotten nothing out of this video".
How many times can you say data and not give a single example? I hate the music so much I won't count. Also why would you want to same goal for each student? If the teachers gave a toot about the data would they become data scientist, since the average salary of a data scientist is 100k+ and a teachers is 70k- I feel like my the name 'Joey' is being stereotyped. Does Data Quality campaign have a mission statement?
Very informative! Most people that are not privey to the education system do not understand the value of data. Without data educators will not know what they need to focus their teaching on or how to gauge their progress or the students progress.
