I'm old and I want to go basic. The main fishing lake near me prohibits motors and pedal drives, so that's not my problem. I've had boats and fish finders and all that jazz. I want to relax, paddle around and fish I'm sure there are others like me. You gearheads are okay, it's just not for me. I will go with the inflatable life jacket because I can't stand the heat. Two rods, a medium light and an ultralight, and maybe someday a fly rod. I had a fly rod years ago and it got broken. I'm even tempted to put my old fly reel on my ultralight spinning rod and see if I can cast with it. The safety stuff, of course I will have. I have plenty of tackle and lures, and the two rods will do me. Bass and crappies in the late spring, early summer, maybe try for some brown trout too.
Now that I’ve seen so many videos from yourself Jay and others I think when you have the 10 most important things to have in a tournament event and how much you draw to those important items that are must have. Whistle, emergency phone and the number one wearing your marine navy approve PDF and maybe learn how to get in and out of your kayak before you even get on the water I think! Proper rain gear or even a dry suit hydration and snacks and then have fun! Creating your style, learning techniques proper catch, capture and release all will come in time!
Thanks Granville! Exactly safety is always first. I think a dry suit is on my list eventually for the cold weather fishing. And snacks are always important 😅
Jay I finally got to see your live podcast on my day off so excited to watch learn and observe. An anglers character and integrity is everything and when you make moral decision like this tournament fishing will live forever I love this! Tight lines and take care Ana God bless!❤
Man, the time, money, energy, weight, hassle folks go through to get on the water. I bet setup for this thing is 25% of your day on water. already have a trailer, just get a small boat and throw everything inside. I love all the stuff behind the kayaker too that he can’t actually reach easily.
This takes about 10 minutes to stage (most of it is getting my rods prepped). Anything in the rear tank well can be easily reached by simply turning around. It’s about being efficient and with a little forethought, it’s easily accomplished 👍🏽
Thanks for the clear comment. I’ve had people tell me it’s 45 min to setup a kayak with all the bells and whistles***. It seems it gets close to the same time a boat takes to get ready. And at that point you can’t get to the same places but can bring friends!
How long is your paddle? I’m 5’9 tall and also have the Old Town Sportsman PDL 120 (has Navarre seat riser). Trying to figure the right size length paddle for me.
Thanks for the kind words man, much appreciate. Me and my guys at KA EPA try to make everyone feel like their part of the family. Hopefully we will see you back out there soon.
For sure man! Always appreciate how helpful everyone was at my first two tournaments. Hoping to jump back in after this season 🤞🏽 Thanks for all you do brother!
Strongly suggest getting a high quality flashlight that has the strobe light function to point at boats coming toward you …… saved my butt on a couple occasions because they ain’t looking!!!!
This is a nice setup! How did you mount the actual fish finder at the front and what brand is that cross bar? Looking to do mine on my 10ft PD kayak since mine is still on ice fishing shuttle. Thank you
I wear an inflatable for fishing. Don't even know I have it on. The lake I fish frequently has alot of kayaks at times. I have never seen anyone with a pfd on . What am I missing? Our WI state law requires it.
Have you looked at BKC (Brooklyn Kayak Co)? Made in China but an inexpensive option. I am looking at a 2-person kayak for Me & the Mrs to add to my single.
@@BeardedDadFishing So much of this is rebranded Chinese stuff from the same factory. It is hard to know what you buy from online sellers. When I compare Hobe to my Perception and Wilderness Systems Kayaks, I think Hobe is overpriced
@@BeardedDadFishing I am just resistant to spending $5K on molded plastic from China. Truth be told, most are rebranded from the same factory in China. Thanks for your comments & Happy Fishing.
@@johnsettin7234 certain brands definitely just private label their kayaks and don’t actually manufacture them. That’s the big difference. Even if they are manufactured overseas, it’s different if the company is only reselling or actually creating a product.
Appreciate this video brother! I just bought a GoPro Hero 11 to start a Seadoo Fishpro specific channel focused in the upper NW Oregon Coast. Bottom fish and salmon during season. As you know there seems to be A LOT of information to learn and get your head wrapped around before actually filming your first video. I had to laugh when you mentioned not being comfortable behind the camera. First thing on my mind but I'll work it out as I go like you said. Lastly the audio question....We are usually punching through waves out in the ocean and an external mic would definitely get wet. I'll see how the 11's internal mic works and go from there as I'll mainly have it on a chest mount. Thanks again for this video really appreciate the information!
Nice that I have a perception kayak Some folks want the best of the best and some folks just want a kayak and there’s most of us in the middle enjoying the trash talk among certain brands
