I find it so very deeply sad that Greg spent his last couple years ashamed of his flute work on Down Under and the lawsuit related to him lifting a line from Kookaburra for it. First of all, I will argue to the end of my days that it should constitute Fair Use, that the lifted line was just a portion of what he brought to the table on that song, it was transformative, and it was a clever reference that fit with the theme of the song being about Australia. From the start, the lawsuit reeks of a corporate cash grab, and I don't think the court should have given it to them. But in particular, he was worried about his legacy, that he would be remembered as a plagiarist, and, on top of my disagreement with the judgment as I detailed in the previous paragraph, when I think of Greg Ham, this song is the first thing I think of. It's my favorite Men At Work song (and I particularly love this live version) and has been since the first time I heard it as a teenager, and Greg wrote it completely on his own. He brought an incredible amount of creativity to the band, and I think he deserved better during his lifetime, and now that he's no longer with us, he deserves to be remembered as an overwhelmingly positive contribution to the world of music.
Cecilia is too distracting with her interpretive dancing and singing. It's to the point where I stopped going to see Colin who's one of my favorite artists. I'm not the only one who feels this way. It makes me sad to not be able to see Colin live, seeing him play solo was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I'm sure she's a great person but its just too much.
There wouldnt be too many priviliges bigger than being a musician & a Beatle wanting to play drums & perform a song that you wrote, while you sang. Though Men at works times was brief - they were international heavyweights to the very core. A very loved & very cool band indeed.
Everytime I hear this, I think of the great con by a greedy bastard and the stupid cretinous judge who were ultimately the catalyst for Greg taking his own life. Do they sleep well at night? DON'T ever ask me to respect the judicial system!
One of the most beautiful songs and Colin you did it beautiful justice. Tears are rolling down my cheeks as I type this. Your voice is a major part of the soundtrack of my life. Thank you for all that you have given and inspired.
