Agree with you sharkbiteleft! Between you and me and the internet.....I think Brad Shitt himself while trying to type and actually he agrees too! Colin Hay is definitely a GENIUS! :-)
dadgad68, Agree big time. Colin doesn’t get the kudos he deserves for being a hell of a guitar player. He gets nods for 2 out of 3, song writing and singing. Some would say 2 out of 3 ain’t bad. Anyone who plays guitar recognises the skill he has. It’s pretty bloody hard to sing and play an instrument at the same time, let alone singing and playing like THAT. He is just an awesome bloke. Would love to have a beer with him.
I find his demeanor and personality very interesting, the way he creates like a comedy act in between his songs extremely talented, hope he never stops.
Accents are weird things; Colin had a full Australian accent in the big Men At Work years, if you listen to those interviews. I guess if you live away for a long time they can change.. Weird, doesn't matter.. His singing voice is still stellar!!
couldn't agree more - have seen him live a few times here in Melbourne and he is an amazing performer. great singer, story teller, and funny as all hell!
HUGE fan of men at work when in the charts and a long time after. Still got the CD's. One of my all time fave songs/videos...Who can it be now. Never new Colin Hay was Scottish! What a nice guy, and WOW his voice is as good as it ever was. Time to chase up on his CD back releases and invest in some good music/songs. Thanks Colin, for so many good songs and memories😏👍
We used to spend the Glasgow Fair at 20 Springvale Street; Granny, Granda, Mum, Dad and brother David We used to pass the Mercury on the way down to the beach - great fish suppers. Amazing to think Colin was still living in Saltcoats then...
No point criticising ferguson for talking over the guests, he makes a point of keeping it light. The guests know what they're getting, and if not, they should have done their homework. Colin Hay is aware of this, they bounce well off each other.
You won't see this the person who posted the brand of guitar...I was reading the threads solely to find out if anyone mentions the type he plays because it has a very intriguing sound....very bass(y) sounding with a beefy overtone...perfect for this song.
I like how Craig's accent got thicker the longer he talked to Colin. My wife says my accent does the same thing the further south we drive in Kentucky :).
C A that is very common. I will start to talk with an accent after a few beers in me at the pub. It only happens if I am speaking to one of my Irish or Scottish friends, and I don`t understan why it happens because I was born here in New York, and so were my parents. But uncles and aunts always around during the holidays are from "the old country" and have brogue`s/ accents that get thicker as the night goes on. So, I am guessing that is the reason for it happening to me. Odd thing about the Irish and Scots, is that they take a long time to loosen up around you, for the most part, or the majority of them do anyway. I really don`t understand it...maybe they don`t want to be labeled as foreigners to us, and are for some reason, ashamed. I would never ask someone why he or she keeps to themselves for the most part, or with others over here making a new life for themselves.I think that if they want to tell you why this is, they will do so at an appropriate time.
@@gregorymacdonnell7914 I think that some of us are just natural mimics. Without intending to, I have often started talking with a slight accent after only an hour or so talking to someone. I remember this happening with people from Scotland, Ireland, Romania, Israel, India and several southern accents. In my 20's, I worked a couple years for a man from Israel. He had quite a pronounced accent and, within a few months of being around him, people began asking me what country I was from.
@@cakincaid4415 I think you make a valid point man. I do believe that some of us are much more prone to doing it than others. You and I probably have alot in common. I bet you are a musician, and I bet you have been told by family and friends that you should try acting as well. You did not enjoy school, and you question your government at many points. Am I close?
If you haven't had a chance to see him live, do it! And bring someone even if they don't know his music. He's a well rounded & naturally gifted entertainer.
Colin Hay has oozed talent for 40 years. For how well he does what he does, he is ridiculously overlooked by the industry. In a world of autotune, three chord "songs" and worthless drivel deceptively called 'lyrics', he is so far ahead of that nonsense it's barely a spec in the review mirror. I've watched him since 1983, and like fine wine, he just keeps getting better and better.
1st- I LOVE LOVE LOVE Colin Hays’ voice above any other. So warm and rich! I could listen to him sing anything! 2nd- I LOVE LOVE LOVE Craig Ferguson. He could interview my mortal enemy and still make me laugh. This was the best 12 minutes I’ve experienced in a long while. ThankYou both!
Colin's a truly unique talent- but sometimes listening to his songwriting/performing choices, I can't help thinking he's like Randy Newman and Pete Townsend's love child...
CRAIG HAD A BAD CASE OF DIARRHEA MOUTH THERE. LET YOUR GUEST HAVE THE FLOOR DUDE. THAT'S WHY YOU INVITED HIM TO YOUR SHOW IN THE FIRST PLACE ISN'T IT ?
Colin Hay is a true genius. It has beautiful songs ... The guitar gives sounds of inner universes ... My eternal admiration to the first group that I admired in my life! From Chile A hug ...
that's why he always bribes his SCOTTISH guests note the KAREN Gillan interview !! mmmm I still think about that milky skin and crimson locks !! I DID MEAN KAREN !! CHEERS!
Saw Colin a few years ago up in WA State and he was absolutely fabulous. Stole the show, and that included Howard Jones and Barenaked Ladies. Love him.
Does anybody notice his use of open tuning? He often employs this during his post- Men At Work days. Nice writing and playing. Something my husband does rather often. Game changer!!
When I first heard men at work in 81 it was like hearing the Beatles. I spent about 2 years listening constantly to his music that doesn't happen much.
Then about five years later Colin Hay had a gig and no one came to the show. Interesting film about his career/life here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3-OlKCmibuw.html
