Really enjoyed this, love your respect, your gentle way. Loe to know the largest salmon caught here. I m not an angler more an all round woodsman. Thinking be good to get on camera. Heading to the Camel in next weeks, otter searching. Thanks for the film.
Thanks yes Ireland would be great. But these videos are back a decade or more. Like many rivers rules and poor government management has left us with poor runs of fish and rules that just spoil the point of fishing. Such as barbless single hooks. Can't keep any on the camel. Fowey River you can keep one a year. And there is still a hatchery but numbers of fish are dropping including seatrout I think we've seen the best days. . Most clubs here do day or week tickets. Always a chance.
I've never understood why people catch and release trout or salmon? when they are the right size to eat. I think carp fishing is pointless. I only fish to eat and love to smoke my fish too. So am i right in thinking i can catch and eat any trout over 18cm on the camel? Thankyou
0:20 don't know if these fish were or still are released after the stripping but holding a salmon from its tail like that causes spinal nerve damage to the fish, leading to partial paralysis and usually death later on, even if the fish appears to swim away fine. Otherwise great work given the sorry state of Cornwall's salmon population.
Catch and release does work. Atlantic Salmon Reserve study found 100% survival from 50 fly caught salmon. Some were caught several times. Inland Fisheries Ireland study found 98% fly caught survival rate and 70% lure caught survival rate. This was on all types of hooks.
Have just joined BAA & now looking forward to my first ever salmon & sea trout. Had some very pretty brownies last week for my first opening bat. Nice vids & thank you for sharing! 👍🍻
@@fishfingers007 Thank uou. Am still watching your fascinating vids, especially the amazing hatchery vids. If these were made 5 years ago, perhaps I may one day catch one of your released fish. 👍🍻
@@chrislock208 BAA have water on the fowey and broodstock are required as from tomorrow. So you could donate a fish yourself to. As we don't run a camel hatchery anymore. Or keep one fresh fish for the table. Camel is return only.
@@fishfingers007 Haha of course, provided I catch my first salmon but I thought all salmon must be returned immediately as per the 2019 5 year bye law?🤔
Yes shame the shrimp is banned, its going the same way here north east england, shrimp.prawn seems to be frowned upon by fluff chuckers yet they still name their best flees after shrimp ! ally shrimp red shrimp river Ure Hazel shrimp etc

Hi Mark.... been watching all your youtubes mate and they are great. Brings back a lot of memories and recognise several places well. I caught a lot of fish over the years and some days I miss it a lot. I I RU-vid all my pigeon shooting and picking up days myself. Hope your well Gary Jago
Hi the rod is one of my local tackle shop hand build. As all my rods are hade built by Roger lashbrook in bodmin. They are mostly built on the old normark blanks and would recommend them. He's in the phone book Rogers tackle
I’m assuming that’s Bodmin road by the rail bridge. Always looks a tempting spot, only ever caught one sea trout never caught a salmon on the Fowey or the Camel. Camel appears to have nothing in it. I love the videos though, great tips and advice.
fishfingers007 what lures do You use? I’m always using flying c’s only really get any luck in Lostwithiel.. I notice you fish later in the year as well? What months do you recommend? Obviously the rules have changed now but I’m looking at heading down later in the year
@@carne374 I use flying c also but mainly rapalas 5cm seatrout in low water 7cm in bigger water. 9cm for salmon October onward for salmon spin slower rapala. CD countdown
Hi for high water I like the cd9 in plain old black n silver. Always delivers for me, as for hooks I've not really found one I like or is strong enough, as this was my first outing and these were new rules for 2018, I cut 2 points off my treble and debarbed the single
Wiggleys hi its at kents meadow on the river Camel. But the environment agency have a ban on keeping sslmon as spawning has been poor. But a great way to catch salmon without damaging them as most are lip hooked
fishfingers007 brilliant thanks. Yes catch and release is all we are looking for. When we want to start fishing for dinner we were thinking of doing boat trip from padstow. :) Thanks
The late paul elliot..done some great work on the hatchery front..privaliged to have met and fished his water...caught one of my largest seatrout of 10lb 12oz at wainsford which is mounted in the wainsford rod room(and it was a fin clipped fish on capture...would love it on my wall..
