Does it have to be a scuba tank to be able to fill the canister? Or can I use a regular air compresser to build air pressure? Thank you so much for your informative videos! Going to go buy the BCA Float 25 Turbo avalanche airbag. Your review of that product was really good, thank you! 🙂
A great question - we get it quite often. WE HAVE NEVER DONE IT, but that doesn't mean it can't be done! Provided you can get it up to the PSI, we don't see any reason why not! Let us know how it goes? Good call on the Turbo 25L - it's a great pack at an awesome price.
How do I remove the cover on the batteries to replace them? I looked at the Mammut manual, and it is not clear. And since it is plastic, I do not want to force it.
Great instructions. Worked like a charm (just changing the gaskets and readying for a pro to refill). But when I removed the firing pin, ready to remove that tiniest O ring, it was not there! Clearly, it did not exist. Just the gap. The throat on the canister was a bit loose (it wanted to turn loose easier than the hex key removed the valve bolts) so I removed, replaced the big O ring, and greased that connection. But when apart I shook the canister upside down (in case the tiny O ring and/or its parts fell into the canister) and I also then used the wooden tooth pick to carefully push from the canister side of the valve intake and out the firing pin hole. Nothing. Is it possible this new (came full and held pressure all last winter) canister/valve could have worked without that tiniest O ring the whole season?
Actually let me rephrase that, the small o ring is there to contain the pressure in the bottle. There is another larger plunger above this also, if you dont have the small o ring in place the pressure will act on the larger plunger and not the smaller shaft with the small o ring. in turn this could over stress the firing pin to the point it fails or its really hard to fire. So as before, replace the o ring
The manufacturer recommendation is to wear it in the harness that comes with it, so we're on board with that, but we've seen lots of folks wear it in their pants pocket with the cord securely attached.
Hi, you are using an Mammut Cartridge with the ortovox bag? I have the Ascent 28S do you know if i have to use the Aluminum or Carbon Cartridge? Thanks
Well, it doesn't have to be empty - sure you can just top it up with extra air and up the pressure, but you might want to examine WHY you are only at 2500psi and make sure you don't have a leak in your cylinder.
When installing/removing the burst disc retaining cap you should not be using the cylinder gauge for leverage as you will eventually break it. Need to secure the fitting block head in a vice and re-torque to 18 ft-lbs. with a torque wrench, not "3x hand weight"....which means nothing. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LRdIYsC-AvA.html
Wished there was a video on how to refill my Mammut SnowPulse cylinder (same as in this video) using a Hill Mark 5 hand-pump. It's the only pump recommended by Mammut for refilling by hand.
Hi! The only non-SCUBA tank pump we've heard of people using is the Hill MK4 air pump. Check it out here: www.mammutavalanchesafety.com/2016/11/refilling-airbag-cylinders-with-hill.html
ISN'T SHE CUTE,REAL PROFESSIONAL WITH ALL THOSE CUTSIE LITTLE COMENTS AND SHE HAD MENTIONED THAT'S HER BUSISNESS,AS WELL AS THE PEOPLE WATCHING AND THAT TOOL IS CALLED A RATCHET WRENCH NOT A ROTATING WRENCH
WHEN I'M RIDING I USUALLY WEARING MY,BCA STASH 30 BACKPACK: I'VE GOT MY STEALTH 300 AVY PROBE,BCA RS EXT AVY SHOVEL, ORTOVOX ALUMINUM FOLDING SNOW SAW,3 LITERS OF WATER,EXTRA TOOLS AND GOGGLES,SNOW STUDY KIT,EXTRA BATTERIES,A HEAD LAMP.BUT MY POINT IS MY BACKPACK NEVER BOUNCES UP AND DOWN,IN FACT I'VE NEVER HAVE HAD THAT PROBLEM !
I LIKE HOW THE BOTTLE SCREWS RIGHT BACK ON,REAL SIMPLE, YOU DON'T NEED TO CHANGE"O RINGS"OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT JUST UNSCREW IT,FILL IT UP,SCREW IT BACK ON, SIMPLE.
I'LL MAKE IT A POINT NOT TO BUY"SNOPULSE", WHAT A PÀIN IN THE___,AND YOU EXPECT ME OR THE COMPANY,WHEN I GO HELIBOARDING FOR ME TO TAKE ALL THOSE TOOLS WITH ME AND WHERE'S THE CLOSEST PLACE I CAN GO TO GET THE BOTTLE FILLED UP? AND I THOUGHT BCA WAS A HASTLE,THEIR NOTHING COMPAIRED TO SNOPULSE.I JUST BOUGHT MY 2ND 2.0 BOTTLE FROM A COMPANY IN WASHINGTON STATE, I PAID $139.95 FULL ON SALE,THAT WILL BE MY BACK UP.OTHER THAN THAT I'LL LOOK INTO A"SCOTT"FLOAT BACKPACK,IT DOESN'T USE ANY BOTTLES,IT HAS A FAN BUILT INSIDE.
YOU KNOW,IT WOULD BE ALOT BETTER/EASIER IF YOU UNSCREW THE TRIGGER COVER FIRST THEN THE TRIGGER CABLE NUT SECOND AND THEN THE QUICK CONNECT FITTING THAT WAY YOU'LL HAVE MORE FLEX WITH THE WHOLE THING INSTEAD OF EVERYTHING BEING RIDGED LIKE YOU DID IN THE VIDEO,TRY IT, IT'S ALOT EASIER.AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO HAVE THE NETTING COVER OVER THE RELEASE VALVE EITHER.
AFTER WATCHING YOUR VIDEO I ENDED UP BUYING A 2021 BCA FLOAT 32.SURE I HAVE TO CHANGE OUT THE TINY O RINGS EACH AND EVERY TIME BUT COMPARDE TO THE REGULATOR YOU USE AND WHAT BCA USES YOURS LOOKS LIKE A NIGHTMARE
Hey Craig - this is a 10-year old video and for Snowpulse 1.0 tech, which isn't made any more. Here's a link to Snowpulse's new refill, which doesn't use o-rings: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-T57LIR6h1mA.html . Hope you did your new BCA Pack :)
Hi James - valid question! In the video is the Jetforce Tour, which is a battery-operated pack (like the Jetforce Pro). However, unlike the JetForce Pro, the JetForce Tour uses a "supercapacitor" battery that requires some AA Batteries to hold the charge, or to give you a second deployment prior to recharging.
It's a good question, and honestly, we suspect you'd be ok in either. The back length on both is the same, it's more the measurements on the front (i.e. wrapping around the belly). If we were you, we'd go with the S/M and if it doesn't work, hit us up for a free exchange.
I AGREE WITH YOU 100% ABOUT THE"T HANDLE"vs THE"D HANDLE". I'VE ALWAYS OWNED A T HANDLE AND IT ALWAYS FITS IN MY PACK WITH NO PROBLEM,THE D HANDLE WON'T FIT IN MY PACK,TOO BULKY ANYWAY AND I WEAR MITTENS (BATWAVE)ALL THE TIME.
Hey Teddy, enjoyed watching your video. Got some objections though: - it isn’t the way how the pack should be done by the manual of either Dakine or Mammut, therefor no guarantee when malfunctioning -Manual to be found exactly where the cartridge sits in the Poacher-rucksack or on the Mammut Homepage and when delivered with an extra manual - by packing the airbag from outside into the middle the inflation could result into bursting of the airbag, this is the reason why all manuals show a pack by folding it from about a third of the full length to the center and back.
I DON'T BUY YOUR STATMENT ABOUT THE LITTLE,TINY,ITSY,BITSY,TENNY,WENNY"O"RINGS THAT END UP WITH LITTLE,TINY CRACKS IN THEM.HOW WOULD YOU KNOW,DO YOU HAVE BALD EAGLE EYE VISION OR SOMETHING? CAN YOU SEE A ATOM OR ARE YOU JUST MAKING UP STORIES BECAUSE YOU WORK FOR BCA?
Thanks for posting this. I have a Snowpulse and would have had a very difficult time figuring out how to refill it without this video. You guys are the best!!
