Does it have to be a scuba tank to be able to fill the canister? Or can I use a regular air compresser to build air pressure? Thank you so much for your informative videos! Going to go buy the BCA Float 25 Turbo avalanche airbag. Your review of that product was really good, thank you! 🙂
A great question - we get it quite often. WE HAVE NEVER DONE IT, but that doesn't mean it can't be done! Provided you can get it up to the PSI, we don't see any reason why not! Let us know how it goes? Good call on the Turbo 25L - it's a great pack at an awesome price.
Great instructions. Worked like a charm (just changing the gaskets and readying for a pro to refill). But when I removed the firing pin, ready to remove that tiniest O ring, it was not there! Clearly, it did not exist. Just the gap. The throat on the canister was a bit loose (it wanted to turn loose easier than the hex key removed the valve bolts) so I removed, replaced the big O ring, and greased that connection. But when apart I shook the canister upside down (in case the tiny O ring and/or its parts fell into the canister) and I also then used the wooden tooth pick to carefully push from the canister side of the valve intake and out the firing pin hole. Nothing. Is it possible this new (came full and held pressure all last winter) canister/valve could have worked without that tiniest O ring the whole season?
Actually let me rephrase that, the small o ring is there to contain the pressure in the bottle. There is another larger plunger above this also, if you dont have the small o ring in place the pressure will act on the larger plunger and not the smaller shaft with the small o ring. in turn this could over stress the firing pin to the point it fails or its really hard to fire. So as before, replace the o ring
Hi there, wondered if I could ask your expert opinion. I’ve got an older Float 22 1.0 that needs a new cylinder. Can you use the newer 2.0 cylinder in it as they’re much easier to find online. I know the manufacturer (BCA) says you can’t but it looks like it’s all the same connections on the trigger and fill line. The pressure seems to be the same psi as well. Have you ever tried to connect a 2.0 cylinder onto a 1.0 pack? Does it work or am I kidding myself???
Most excellent question - it's a valid one. Unfortunately the 1.0 and 2.0 systems are not compatible with one another, which tends to be the case between 1.0 and 2.0 systems of all brands. Though the fitments look like they should work together, they're actually of different sizes so wouldn't work to try to attach them.
Hi! The only non-SCUBA tank pump we've heard of people using is the Hill MK4 air pump. Check it out here: www.mammutavalanchesafety.com/2016/11/refilling-airbag-cylinders-with-hill.html
Thanks for the video, I am interested in getting a setup in my home shop to refill cylinders, can you give me details on the gauge and fittings you have on the scuba tanks that the cylinder attaches to?
you probably dont care but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times you can stream all of the latest movies and series on instaflixxer. Have been binge watching with my girlfriend these days =)
Well, it doesn't have to be empty - sure you can just top it up with extra air and up the pressure, but you might want to examine WHY you are only at 2500psi and make sure you don't have a leak in your cylinder.
I DON'T BUY YOUR STATMENT ABOUT THE LITTLE,TINY,ITSY,BITSY,TENNY,WENNY"O"RINGS THAT END UP WITH LITTLE,TINY CRACKS IN THEM.HOW WOULD YOU KNOW,DO YOU HAVE BALD EAGLE EYE VISION OR SOMETHING? CAN YOU SEE A ATOM OR ARE YOU JUST MAKING UP STORIES BECAUSE YOU WORK FOR BCA?
