Question: This may sound silly but in the absence of an online client for Lorcana, do you think picking up another card game that has an online client would be beneficial? I’m thinking along the lines of getting a better idea on the concepts of playing TCG etc?
spilled ink question: do you think lorcana will ever introduce a lost zone/banish zone into the game? and if so, what ink color do you think would utilize it the most (or in what way)?
Working on a spicy rush/challenger ruby amethyst deck. Mainly a fun deck idea now, do you think there is room for a rush challenger style deck in this meta?
Spilled Ink question: So many draw engines in this game. So many ways to dig thru the pile. Why is ursulas caldron and sorcerers hat not good? Develop your brain, every turn seems good. Showing your opponent the problems they have to respond to BEFORE they have to, seems good. I want the brilliant minds of podcana to weigh in. Quantify this, babyyyy
Spilled Ink Question: As we’re moving further into the Set 5 metagame, is there a specific archetype of Amber/Steel Song that’s more preferable for matchups against the rest of the meta? I see builds that either favor a Piglet/Daisy/Mr. Smee approach for an Aggro tempo, or builds that favor a variety of shift targets (Robin Hood, Queen, Cinderella) but not a lot of early questing power for more of a midrange approach. Would love your thoughts on which seems more suited to the current meta!
I wanna se some serious deck trying to maximize maximus! :) R/S deck with item package, 4 sheriff for 5 str support. Ruby chromicon, gaston etc. Anyone tried to cook something up?
RB back at it again printing stupid meta building cards. They seriously need to start thinking about card design lol if all decks have to build themselves around 1 card that’s not a good thing at all. Daisy is a dumb card Pete is a dumb card and Naveen is also a dumb card. It’s like they couldn’t go 1 format without Steel Song being op asf.
Since you mentioned it: The mono emerald deck went 0-3, drop. It was low to the ground but ultimately would reach a point where you needed something from another ink color that simply wasnt there in the mono-color version. It might happen one day, but we're not yet to the point where you can be competitive with only one ink color
I like t4 library cause I can play library move a character there and sacrifice them for a card and if it's a kuzco or chernabog double card draw. T3 I stick with another character unless I can wipe or they only got 1 weak character on field
@@beardedcat9744 All match up dependent of course. If I know wheel is possible then I am just putting it out there and not adding characters to it but they have to deal with it since it's getting me passive lore in which case I prefer castle but I run both
Are tournament wins and top finishes how one should pick a deck list? I know Moyen is a competitive player but why would I pick his G/P list over Earlmeister's, for example?
I'm personally not a fan of Earlmeister's list in general.. but that's besides the point. I would rather analyze tournament results as some inspiration for deck building as these players competing in these events should be competent enough to judge the field to the best of their ability and hence decide to include certain cards and make certain deck building choices based on the expected meta game of the tournament. Like we discussed, I am NOT a fan of saying a deck list is good based on PB Connect testing. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE PB Connect as a tool, but the match ups you will experience on that platform are no where near close to the quality of player and deck building skill you should expect at a challenge (again, all my opinion). I would personally always look at tournament results and rate them higher then general PB decks.
Hey, creator of the john deck here. The build i ran saturday was like a v2 of the concept. The version ive updated to after the weekend replaced triton with the queen, diviner and the 61st card noi with a second apple. The deck definitely looks like a pile of cards so i completely understand the assessment haha. The noi fwiw was just supposed to be a hard to deal with lore pusher that could pick off weaker characters in a pinch. But at the end of the day its supposed to play like a prison strategy. Its definitely a weird deck to pilot and needs reps but i wouldnt count it out completely ;) but i could be biased
An interview would be sickkk. Gotta hear about the match ups, this is my favorite deck I've seen set 5. John was the card I wanted to build with the most this set since the queen item build was what I built last set. I'm running Nemari from set 4 and vitalisphere for removal. Works super well with the new potion of might as well!
@psychosmurf96 This deck is awesome! Played it at league yesterday and crushed it. I'm going to try the queen. Have you tried to fit in Maurice's workshop to support more prince John playing items for free?
@bryang00142 glad you enjoyed it! My current build is also using queen :) I haven't tried using workshop yet no but it could be worth testing if you can make room for the uninkable since there are so many already
@Psychosmurf96 for sure! My initial thought last night was cut triton for the workshop. I will test queen and workshop and see how it plays. The inkability might be the deciding factor because the only thing queen doesn't hit is the sword. And if she hits it you still draw it. Oh wow, and you can Lefou or shield her 🤔. Did you end up playing against amber/steel in the event and if so how did it go?
It's definitely not an easy deck and by no means do I think my build is the optimal build with the engine since I've already updated some of the cards since saturday but it's definitely going to be my project to optimize until set 6 drops
@Psychosmurf96 it sucks to see your deck called trash, but It definately took an event down by an angle people were not prepared for. Like Moyen said, it could probably use a little work but I hope you keep it up!
It's all good lol I kept saying after every round I won that I couldn't believe it was working lol because it looks just like a pile of draft chaff that happened to create an interesting engine
@@Psychosmurf96yeah 😅 please don't take our criticism to harshly.. from an outside perspective it certainly looked strange. But without testing it ourselves, we cannot make a proper assessment. This is our initial impression of the decklist
Regarding the "readying your ink during your opponents turn" comment: It is technically already relevant. If you flip some of the new emerald cards that have ink cost abilities on play like the clarabelle that can pop items off of mufasa, you'd need to have kept enough ink available to pay it. For that same reason it *is* important that stuff like hades puts into ink exerted.
Loved your comments on Blurple! What’s changed with set 5 is actually the SR Elsa and Anna, the ability to exert opponent(s). Yes, there are no AOE actions with these inks, but if the pilot can stay disciplined to remove as the board grows, the high end is enough to close the game.

With archtypes starteling to solidify within the game and certain decks having to play close to useless cards to combat these archtypes do you think sideboarding would be an easier out than banning or errating cards in the future? This is to reguards of moyen talking about even woth the errta of bucky the decks that wete winning still showed no weaknesses
Hey guys love the podcast, looking forward to it every week! About paying ink on your opponent’s turn, this doesn’t need instant speed interaction I think. Let’s say there’s an item in play that says “Whenever an opponent plays a character, you may pay 4 ink and banish this item to banish the character that was played.” We actually already have ink spending during opponent’s turn: in Amber Steel while having a Weight Set and Mufasa in play, if the opponent banishes Mufasa and I get to play a 4+ strength character, I can pay 1 ink to draw a card! Would love to hear your thoughts!
Would be interested to listen to you guys discussing games or match ups in terms of "who's the beatdown". Also the meta on archetype level (beyond color combination/deck builds), or do you think lorcana's meta is still very much on the deck build level (like steel song, ruby sapphire dime, ruby amethyst) instead of a more abstract level like aggro, combo, and control
Honestly, not sure Disney ever brings back Brennan as a host. He’s good in this format, but not for Disney. Too much swearing and his diction is questionable to be nice. Especially when you’re thinking about Disney. For people who say “what about deadpool?” - It’s the exception not the rule. The exception that makes them money as well. Plus the hand tattoo hurts. If you can cover it up with sleeves ( I’m fully sleeved) it wouldn’t matter as much, but anything that can’t get hidden with long sleeves is a no go for companies still.
I missed Vagas and Seattle. PPG is useless. I emailed their support about a crazy server-side error message I kept getting on Seattle dlc drop day, and they completely ignored the error message and sent me a response that was condensing and best and open ridicule at worst.
Removal isn't overcosted. It just gets compared against games like MtG where removal is severely undercosted. The power level of every big MtG card without an EtB effect is "Who cares? It's not sticking." If you print a bunch of cheap omni-negates, those just become the new power cards and you've invalidated most of your design space. I'd much rather a game where cards costing more than 3 can be part of the meta.
Starting with really bad removal has to be an intentional design choice to give them room to power creep it. Mtg removal started way yo powerful vs extremely anemic threats and had to spend a bunch of time printing weaker and weaker removal into standard until they could start power creeping it again. EDIT: mtg players call stuff by card names because they do a lot of functional reprints in their game and the easiest way to keep track of them especially in limited is to use an old "generic" name.
Regarding the lottery system they just need to do what wizards historically has done for the last x years and do sign ups at the event and get a venue large enough to support over 2k players. Magic has had some massive tourneys over the years and it seems to have worked fine. It feels so bad not being able to get into these competitive tournaments.
i dunno i know it’s not set 5 but the finals of toronto didn’t seem like games. like that guy had no shot at winning they seemed like oh he got a good draw so he wins and the other top decks basically nothing for the rest of the game.
ink could already mater on your opponents turn i think only in a mufasa deck though. 1 drop clarabelle, the modal anna, etc… any of the new “kicker” cards
Do you believe every color needs a board wipe based on what that color does best . For example 8 cost in purple banish every character that is exerted. Blue for every ink you have more than opponent banish a character. Would you think cards like that would be good for the game. Or something to reward you for playing only 1 color or character?
