I used to go to Peter Comeaus place nr Ivybridge in Devon, in an old barn when it was Mecom acoustics, Peter tested all the speakers and adjusted the chassis to fine tune them, fascinating.
If you're not an insane audiophile the PM-1 (IF IF you can find them) for a small to mid size room. The PM-1 are hands down exceptional in every way describable. Forget the hype the newer means better. PM-! pair well with Rotel amps.( PS: go for the stands as well)
Why anyone would pay so much for a turntable is beyond me. For home use any good turntable is only as good as the leads, the amp, cart/stylus and the speakers thats before going into other nuances like speaker placement and vinyl age, condition and the initial studio production. As a dj deck any sound benefits are outweighed by the necessity for a conical stylus. From a djing point of view, the best you can hope for is a solid robust unit capable of handling the rigours of regular use, adequate pitch stability and strong general construction. Are there any other decks/brands that will provide this for less? Yes, there are but then theres the never ending myth of technics being the 'holy grail' of decks based on the fact that the 1210's were the turntables of choice decades ago and everything else is now a 'copy'. Are there worse decks out there? Definitely! Are there better decks out there? Definitely! Is Technics worth the price tag based on a badge of honour they gained decades ago? Thats for the consumer to decide without the 'audiophile snobbery' that Technics decks attract. 'see' with your ears not your eyes and ask yourself if the cost of a Technics badge is worth it.

Amazing how far and affordable these have come now in 2024... A nice sounding pair with bass, phone mode, and outside hearing capacity can be had for less than $50 (USD) these days 😁

I have the 805 D3s driven by an Accuphase A-30 and they sound fantastic! Transparent and detailed, but not surgical and tiring. Aesthetically, resting on their dedicated stands (FS-805D3) are a masterpiece. I would say that for rooms up to 20m2 they can be definitive, but naturally you have to combine them with high quality electronics.
I bought one two years ago and I love it. I never use the Ambilight, but Buy a decent soundbar as the speaker is poor. I can recommend the Sonos soundbar.
Hi, which speakers would you recommend me for this unit, b&w 683s2 or focal chora 826? Room circa 24m2, music all around, but no electro or hip hop. Thank you
Besides using the HTL9100 for DVDs and Blu-rays, for which it delivers beautiful audio, I use this soundbar to listen to my vinyl records. I run a Music Hall USB -1 turntable with its in-built phono preamp and fitted with a AT-VM95 cartridge, RCA-ed to the HTL-9100. I cant believe how good my records sound for such a modest setup.
I seen his Marantz designed cd players in the HiFi magazines.Ken Ishiwata. Now I definitely want to hear one of his designed components. But hearing his speech I find more interesting.Connecting generations with music with the best quality sound and playback experience in a SACD.
Is the Linn Kiko still relevant in 2024? I can grab a b-stock for 1300€. I'm mostly streaming these days through Deezer. I'm still unclear in regards to wireless transmition. Do I need to have Music on my hard drive or whatever or streaming directly from the web also works?
So the sound over wifi is "a little diluted" compared to a physical connection ? Oh dear. That's probably because you're not using a gold-plated oxygen-free wifi antenna like mine.
Just got the Arcam.... after the software update it now has Tidal connect and full Roon implementation . .... Sounds mighty compared to the Wiim Pro Plus.... superb integration with Tidal and Roon.... Soundstage and attack are massive improvements
Does it turn on automatically when the power plug is insert into the power outlet socket? Or do you have to turn it on with the remote to get it out of standby mode when the power plug is insert into the power outlet socket?
Does anyone know the name of the guy that used to be on the hifi scene, very distinctive looking he had quite long hair, very hippie like?...I never new his name unfortunately but I first bumped into him at shop in Picadilly Manchester buying Laserdiscs! He was always extolling the virtues of analogue audio.
It was a good show and I enjoyed it as always. I particularly liked the PMC active floorstanders and was also tempted by the Rega 6 turntable with the new cartridge (can't remember the number of it, but it's due out in about a month apparently). Unfortunately I missed the What HiFi TV demo, which would have been interesting as I'm a big fan of OLED. Hopefully the show will keep going, despite Bristol City Council's obsession with bulldozing everything to build 28 storey blocks of flats in the area.
