Hi. What spots did you go to swim in La Jolla? Yesterday, I went to La Jolla Shores. I saw leopard sharks, skull of fish, a bigger fish and a big sting ray. The water was mercury so it was hard to see
You guys literally got no shots at all of the reef. That spot is literally my front yard but I haven’t dove out there yet the footage you showed I didn’t see a single fish except for the hammerhead and I was disappointing until I heard you say that the reef was amazing. At any rate thanks for sharing.
Iv got 8 days on the big island coming up and would love a few free dive recommendations. My partner and i are comfortable to around 50 feet perhaps more in better conditions. So anything in that area would be great!!
Sure. Here's an article we wrote with recommendations. Top 15 Best Snorkeling Spots on the Big Island konasnorkeltrips.com/blog/top-15-best-snorkeling-spots-on-the-big-island/
I have a newbie question here; I’ve just taken the basic Naui freediving course, and there was a lot of talk about, having one’s buddy on the surface while one is diving. When does that rule apply? Mainly for much deeper dives?
It applies for every dive. Your buddy should always be on the surface while you are diving as you never know when you could experience shallow water blackout.
It's near the end of the road on the right. If you miss it you'll hit the end and just turn around and it's the first thing you'll see. One of our favorite shore dive spots!
Yeah, it's one of the best for sure. Still kinda sleepy. Sorry! We were out last weekend and Byron fell betweent he boat and the dock and sprained his knee. We'll get back at it! Promise 😉
@@konafreedivers3970 This is bringing back some memories. Back in '91, I worked for the Hyatt Regency Waikoloa, which is now the HIlton, I think. I worked part time for the scuba shop in that hotel, it was called Red Sail Sports. I got to do a lot of diving and I think about it a lot. There are so many beautiful spots on the island.
From San Diego, visiting Kona right now watching your Kona Diving videos! Glad you got to enjoy the sea life in La Jolla. There really is an abundance even in the shallows off of La Jolla shores/The Marine Room.
@@konafreedivers3970 We visited several beaches along the west coast of Kona. North to Mauna Kea Beach, Beach 69, and south to Captain Cook, Two Step, and South Point. A few in between as well. The one I would want to go back to the most would be South point; such a unique environment near deep open ocean, rough seas and crystal clear water!
Interesting video footage. My only suggestion would be for both of you to carry a long sharp spear to keep a aggressive sharks away from your body. Fortunately, the shark in the video wasn't interested.
Aloha Arnold. The coral at this spot was actually quite good in comparison to many places. Are you talking about all of the yellow coral? That's actually alive!
ALOHA! I used to swim at Paniau all the time and other various spots along the coast. One of my favorites was Two-Step. I took a boat tour of the coast once and got to swim up and down the coastline a little. I love the Big Island! I once saw a HUGE honu at the Kona harbor swimming, he was so BIG , but I am double guessing myself, maybe it was a manta instead. E malama pono!
@@konafreedivers3970 I wish lol. I’ll probably never go back to the Big Island. Lots and lots of memories and good times, but those times are passed for me. I’ll watch the videos now 🤙🤙
Yeah, been there myself, my brother and I got stuck in the boonies in a 4 wheel drive!! We aired down, and used pine tree branches and rocks got us out! Took us around 3 hours to get out!! Much patience, and a good head on your shoulders is needed in those terrifying moments. I say terrifying because no one else was there, and phones did not work... It's at that very second that your brain clicks and goes into "holy crap mode" Glad you two were able to get help, that angle didn't look good, it also could have rolled to one side!
We go to that spot and other places close by most the time you have the place to yourself because it is difficult to find and difficult to drive There is another place we go where the sand and dirt are even softer. I deflate my tires (which helps a lot) and some old car mats or carpet can get you out of a jam
